Hadith 38
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، وَإِسْحَاق بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ جميعا ، عَنْ جَرِيرٍ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ كُلُّهُمْ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الثَّقَفِيِّ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، قُلْ لِي فِي الإِسْلَامِ قَوْلًا لَا أَسْأَلُ عَنْهُ أَحَدًا بَعْدَكَ ، وَفِي حَدِيثِ أَبِي أُسَامَةَ : غَيْرَكَ ، قَالَ : " قُلْ آمَنْتُ بِاللَّهِ فَاسْتَقِمْ " .
It is narrated on the authority of Sufyan bin 'Abdulla al-Thaqafi that he said: I asked the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) to tell me about Islam a thing which might dispense with the necessity of my asking anybody after you. In the hadith of Abu Usama the (words) are: other than you. He (the Holy Prophet) remarked: Say I affirm my faith in Allah and then remain steadfast to it.
Hadith 84
حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الرَّبِيعِ الزَّهْرَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا خَلَفُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي مُرَاوِحٍ اللَّيْثِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، " أَيُّ الأَعْمَالِ أَفْضَلُ ؟ قَالَ : الإِيمَانُ بِاللَّهِ وَالْجِهَادُ فِي سَبِيلِهِ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : أَيُّ الرِّقَابِ أَفْضَلُ ؟ قَالَ : أَنْفَسُهَا عِنْدَ أَهْلِهَا ، وَأَكْثَرُهَا ثَمَنًا ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : فَإِنْ لَمْ أَفْعَلْ ؟ قَالَ : تُعِينُ صَانِعًا أَوْ تَصْنَعُ لأَخْرَقَ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ ضَعُفْتُ عَنْ بَعْضِ الْعَمَلِ ؟ قَالَ : تَكُفُّ شَرَّكَ عَنِ النَّاسِ ، فَإِنَّهَا صَدَقَةٌ مِنْكَ عَلَى نَفْسِكَ " .
Abu Dharr (RA) reported: I said: Messenger of Allah, which of the deeds is the best? He (the Holy Prophet) replied: Belief in Allah and Jihad in His cause. I again asked: Who is the slave whose emancipation is the best? He (the Holy Prophet) replied: One who is valuable for his master and whose price is high. I said: If I can't afford to do it? He (the Holy Prophet) replied: Help an artisan or make anything for the unskilled (labourer). I (Abu Dharr) said: Messenger of Allah, you see that I am helpless in doing some of these deeds. He (the Holy Prophet) replied: Desist from doing mischief to the people. That is the charity of your person on your behalf.
Hadith 123
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاق بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، وَعَبْدُ بْنُ حميد ، قَالَا : أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاق بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ حَكِيمِ بْنِ حِزَامٍ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَشْيَاءَ كُنْتُ أَفْعَلُهَا فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ ، قَالَ هِشَامٌ : يَعْنِي أَتَبَرَّرُ بِهَا ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَسْلَمْتَ عَلَى مَا أَسْلَفْتَ لَكَ مِنَ الْخَيْرِ " ، قُلْتُ : فَوَاللَّهِ لَا أَدَعُ شَيْئًا صَنَعْتُهُ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ إِلَّا فَعَلْتُ فِي الإِسْلَامِ مِثْلَهُ .
It is narrate on the authority of Hakim bin Hizam: I said: Messenger of Allah, I did so some of the deeds in the state of ignorance. (One of the transmitters Hisham bin Urwa explained them as acts of piety. Upon this the Messenger, of Allah remarked: You have embraced Islam with all the previous acts of virtue. I said: By God, I would leave nothing undone in Islam the like of which I did in the state of ignorance.
Hadith 123
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، أَنَّ حَكِيمَ بْنَ حِزَامٍ ، أَعْتَقَ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ مِائَةَ رَقَبَةٍ ، وَحَمَلَ عَلَى مِائَةِ بَعِيرٍ ، ثُمَّ أَعْتَقَ فِي الإِسْلَامِ مِائَةَ رَقَبَةٍ ، وَحَمَلَ عَلَى مِائَةِ بَعِيرٍ ، ثُمَّ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَذَكَرَ نَحْوَ حَدِيثِهِمْ .
Hakim b. Hizam freed one hundred slave and donated one hundred camels (for the sake of Allah) during the state of ignorance. Then he freed one hundred slaves and donated one hundred camel (for the sake of Allah) after) he had embraced Islam. He subsequently came to the Apostle (ﷺ). The rest of the hadith is the same as narrated above.
Hadith 134
حَدَّثَنَا هَارُونُ بْنُ مَعْرُوفٍ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبَّادٍ ، وَاللَّفْظُ لِهَارُونَ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَا يَزَالُ النَّاسُ يَتَسَاءَلُونَ ، حَتَّى يُقَالَ : هَذَا خَلَقَ اللَّهُ الْخَلْقَ ، فَمَنْ خَلَقَ اللَّهَ ؟ فَمَنْ وَجَدَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ شَيْئًا ، فَلْيَقُلْ آمَنْتُ بِاللَّهِ " .
It is narrated on the authority of Abu Hurairah (RA) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Men will continue to question one another till this is propounded: Allah created all things but who created Allah? He who found himself confronted with such a situation should say: I affirm my faith in Allah.
Hadith 134
وحَدَّثَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلَانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو النَّضْرِ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الْمُؤَدِّبُ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " يَأْتِي الشَّيْطَانُ أَحَدَكُمْ ، فَيَقُولُ : مَنْ خَلَقَ السَّمَاءَ ، مَنْ خَلَقَ الأَرْضَ ؟ ، فَيَقُولُ : اللَّهُ " ، ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ بِمِثْلِهِ ، وَزَادَ وَرُسُلِهِ .
This hadith has been transmitted by Mahmud bin Ghailan by another chain of transmitters (and the words are): The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: The Satan will come to everyone of you and say: Who created the heaven, who created the earth? (And the man) replies: It is Allah, Then the remaining part of the hadith was narrated as mentioned above and the words 'His prophets" were added to it.
Hadith 205
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، وَيُونُسُ بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : " لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ وَأَنْذِرْ عَشِيرَتَكَ الأَقْرَبِينَ سورة الشعراء آية 214 ، قَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى الصَّفَا ، فَقَالَ : يَا فَاطِمَةُ بِنْتَ مُحَمَّدٍ ، يَا صَفِيَّةُ بِنْتَ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ ، يَا بَنِي عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ ، لَا أَمْلِكُ لَكُمْ مِنَ اللَّهِ شَيْئًا ، سَلُونِي مِنْ مَالِي مَا شِئْتُمْ " .
It is narrated on the authority of 'A'isha that when this verse was revealed:" And warn thy nearest kindred," the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) stood up on Safa' and said: O Fatima, daughter of Muhammad. O Safiya, daughter of 'Abdul Muttalib, O sons of 'Abdul Muttalib. I have nothing which can avail you against Allah; you may ask me what you want of my worldly belongings.
Hadith 227
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، وَعُثْمَانُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ وَاللَّفْظُ لِقُتَيْبَةَ ، وَإِسْحَاق بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْحَنْظَلِيُّ ، قَالَ إِسْحَاق : أَخْبَرَنَا ، وَقَالَ لآخَرَانِ ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ حُمْرَانَ مَوْلَى عُثْمَانَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ عَفَّانَ ، وَهُوَ بِفِنَاءِ الْمَسْجِدِ ، فَجَاءَهُ الْمُؤَذِّنُ عِنْدَ الْعَصْرِ ، فَدَعَا بِوَضُوءٍ فَتَوَضَّأَ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " وَاللَّهِ لَأُحَدِّثَنَّكُمْ حَدِيثًا ، لَوْلَا آيَةٌ فِي كِتَابِ اللَّهِ مَا حَدَّثْتُكُمْ ، إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : لَا يَتَوَضَّأُ رَجُلٌ مُسْلِمٌ ، فَيُحْسِنُ الْوُضُوءَ ، فَيُصَلِّي صَلَاةً ، إِلَّا غَفَرَ اللَّهُ لَهُ مَا بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ الصَّلَاةِ الَّتِي تَلِيهَا " ،
Humran. the freed slave of 'Uthman. said: I heard from 'Uthman bin 'Affan and he was in the courtyard of the mosque, when the Mu'adhdhin (announcer of the prayer) came to him at the time of afternoon prayer. So the ('Uthman) called for the ablution water and performed ablution and then said: By Allah, I am narrating to you a hadith. If there were not a verse in the Book of Allah, I would have never narrated it to you. I heard Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) say: If a Muslim performs ablution and does it well and offers prayer, all his (sins) during the period from one prayer to another would be pardoned by Allah.
Hadith 227
وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ . ح حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ جَمِيعًا ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ ، بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ ، وَفِي حَدِيثِ أَبِي أُسَامَةَ : فَيُحْسِنُ وُضُوءَهُ ، ثُمَّ يُصَلِّي الْمَكْتُوبَةَ .
This hadith is also narrated on the authority with the same chain of transmitters and in the hadith of Abu Usama the words are: "He who performed the ablution well and then offered the obligatory prayer."
Hadith 286
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، " كَانَ يُؤْتَى بِالصِّبْيَانِ ، فَيُبَرِّكُ عَلَيْهِمْ ، وَيُحَنِّكُهُمْ ، فَأُتِيَ بِصَبِيٍّ فَبَالَ عَلَيْهِ ، فَدَعَا بِمَاءٍ ، فَأَتْبَعَهُ بَوْلَهُ وَلَمْ يَغْسِلْهُ " .
A'isha, the wife of the Apostle (ﷺ) said: Babies were brought to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and he blessed them, and after having chewed (something, e. g. dates or any other sweet thing) he rubbed there with their soft palates. A baby was brought to him and he passed water over him (over his garment), so he asked water to be brought and sprinkled it, but he did not wash it.
Hadith 286
حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : " أُتِيَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِصَبِيٍّ يَرْضَعُ ، فَبَالَ فِي حَجْرِهِ ، فَدَعَا بِمَاءٍ فَصَبَّهُ عَلَيْهِ " .
A'isha reported: A suckling baby was brought to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and he urinated in his lap. He (the Holy Prophet) sent for water and poured it over.
Hadith 286
وحَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاق بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عِيسَى ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ ، بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ ، مِثْلَ حَدِيثِ ابْنِ نُمَيْرٍ .
Hisham narrated the hadith like one transmitted by Ibn Numair (the above mentioned one) with the same chain of transmitters.
Hadith 291
وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ . ح وحَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَتْنِي فَاطِمَةُ ، عَنْ أَسْمَاءَ ، قَالَتْ : " جَاءَتِ امْرَأَةٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَتْ : إِحْدَانَا يُصِيبُ ثَوْبَهَا مِنْ دَمِ الْحَيْضَةِ ، كَيْفَ تَصْنَعُ بِهِ ؟ قَالَ : تَحُتُّهُ ، ثُمَّ تَقْرُصُهُ بِالْمَاءِ ، ثُمَّ تَنْضَحُهُ ، ثُمَّ تُصَلِّي فِيهِ " .
Asma (daughter of Abu Bakr) reported: A woman came to the Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) and said: What should one do if the blood of menses smears the garment of one amongst us? He (the Holy Prophet) replied: She should scrape it, then rub it with water, then pour water over it and then offer prayer in it.
Hadith 291
وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ . ح وحَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الطَّاهِرِ ، أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ ، وَمَالِكُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ ، وَعَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ كلهم ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ ، مِثْلَ حَدِيثِ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيد .
This tradition is narrated by Abu Kuraib, Ibn Numair, Abu Tahir, Ibn Wahb, Yahya bin 'Abdullah bin Salim, Malik bin Anas, 'Amr bin Harith on the authority of Hisham bin 'Urwa, with the same chain of transmitters like one transmitted by Yahya bin Sa'id like the above-mentioned.
Hadith 297
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عُرْوَةُ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ : " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُدْنِي إِلَيَّ رَأْسَهُ وَأَنَا فِي حُجْرَتِي ، فَأُرَجِّلُ رَأْسَهُ وَأَنَا حَائِضٌ " .
'Urwa reported it from 'A'isha that she observed: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) inclined his head towards me (from the mosque) while I was in my apartment and I combed it in a state of menstruation.
Hadith 313
وحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى التَّمِيمِيُّ ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، قَالَتْ : " جَاءَتْ أَمُّ سُلَيْمٍ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَتْ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يَسْتَحْيِي مِنَ الْحَقِّ ، فَهَلْ عَلَى الْمَرْأَةِ مِنْ غُسْلٍ إِذَا احْتَلَمَتْ ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : نَعَمْ ، إِذَا رَأَتِ الْمَاءَ ، فَقَالَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، وَتَحْتَلِمُ الْمَرْأَةُ ؟ فَقَالَ : تَرِبَتْ يَدَاكِ ، فَبِمَ يُشْبِهُهَا وَلَدُهَا ".
Umm Salamah reported: Umm Sulaim went to the Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) and said: Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) , Allah is not ashamed of the truth. Is bathing necessary for a woman when she has a sexual dream? Upon this the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Yes, when she sees the liquid (vaginal secretion). Umm Salamah said: Messenger of Allah, does a woman have sexual dream? He (the Holy Prophet) said: Let your hand be covered with dust, in what way does her child resemble her?
Hadith 313
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَزُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ جَمِيعًا ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ ، مِثْلَ مَعْنَاهُ وَزَادَ ، قَالَتْ : قُلْتُ : " فَضَحْتِ النِّسَاءَ " .
This hadith with the same sense (as narrated above) has been transmitted from Hisham bin 'Urwa with the same chain of narrators but with this addition that she (Umm Salamah) said: "You humiliated the women.
Hadith 316
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى التَّمِيمِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، إِذَا اغْتَسَلَ مِنَ الْجَنَابَةِ ، يَبْدَأُ فَيَغْسِلُ يَدَيْهِ ، ثُمَّ يُفْرِغُ بِيَمِينِهِ عَلَى شِمَالِهِ ، فَيَغْسِلُ فَرْجَهُ ، ثُمَّ يَتَوَضَّأُ وُضُوءَهُ لِلصَّلَاةِ ، ثُمَّ يَأْخُذُ الْمَاءَ ، فَيُدْخِلُ أَصَابِعَهُ فِي أُصُولِ الشَّعْرِ ، حَتَّى إِذَا رَأَى أَنْ قَدِ اسْتَبْرَأَ ، حَفَنَ عَلَى رَأْسِهِ ثَلَاثَ حَفَنَاتٍ ، ثُمَّ أَفَاضَ عَلَى سَائِرِ جَسَدِهِ ، ثُمَّ غَسَلَ رِجْلَيْهِ " ،
'A'isha reported: When Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) bathed because of sexual intercourse, he first washed his hands: he then poured water with his right hand on his left hand and washed his private parts. He then performed ablution as is done for prayer'. He then took some water and put his fingers and moved them through the roots of his hair. And when he found that these had been properly moistened, then poured three handfuls on his head and then poured water over his body and subsequently washed his feet.
Hadith 316
وحَدَّثَنَاه قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، وَزُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُسْهِرٍ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، كُلُّهُمْ ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ ، فِي هَذَا الإِسْنَادِ وَلَيْسَ فِي حَدِيثِهِمْ : غَسْلُ الرِّجْلَيْنِ ،
This hadith is narrated by Abu Kuraib. Ibn Numair and others, all on the authority of Hisham with the same chain of transmitters, but in their narration these words are not there: "washed his feet."
Hadith 316
وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ اغْتَسَلَ مِنَ الْجَنَابَةِ ، فَبَدَأَ فَغَسَلَ كَفَّيْهِ ثَلَاثًا ، ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ نَحْوَ حَدِيثِ أَبِي مُعَاوِيَةَ ، وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ : غَسْلَ الرِّجْلَيْنِ .
Hisham00000narrated it from his father, who narrated it on the authority hands three times, and then the whole of 'A'isha that when the Apostle (ﷺ) took a bath because of sexual intercourse, he first washed the palms of his hadith was transmitted like that based on the authority of Abu Mu'awyia, but no mention is made of the washing of feet.
Hadith 316
حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ، حَدَّثَنَا زَائِدَةُ ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي عُرْوَةُ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، " أَنَّ ّرَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ إِذَا اغْتَسَلَ مِنَ الْجَنَابَةِ ، بَدَأَ فَغَسَلَ يَدَيْهِ ، قَبْلَ أَنْ يُدْخِلَ يَدَهُ فِي الإِنَاءِ ، ثُمَّ تَوَضَّأَ مِثْلَ وُضُوئِهِ لِلصَّلَاةِ " .
'Urwa has narrated it on the authority of 'A'isha that when Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) took a bath because of sexual intercourse, he first washed his hands before dipping one of them into the basin, and then performed ablution as is done for prayer.
Hadith 333
وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : " جَاءَتْ فَاطِمَةُ بِنْتُ أَبِي حُبَيْشٍ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَتْ : " يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنِّي امْرَأَةٌ أُسْتَحَاضُ ، فَلَا أَطْهُرُ ، أَفَأَدَعُ الصَّلَاةَ ؟ فَقَالَ : لَا ، إِنَّمَا ذَلِكِ عِرْقٌ وَلَيْسَ بِالْحَيْضَةِ ، فَإِذَا أَقْبَلَتِ الْحَيْضَةُ ، فَدَعِي الصَّلَاةَ ، وَإِذَا أَدْبَرَتْ ، فَاغْسِلِي عَنْكِ الدَّمَ وَصَلِّي ،
'A'isha reported: Fatimah bin Abu Hubaish came to the Apostle (ﷺ) and said: I am a woman whose blood keeps flowing (even after the menstruation period). I am never purified; should I, therefore, abandon prayer? He (the Holy Prophet) said: Not at all, for that is only a vein, and is not a menstruation, so when menstruation comes, abandon prayer, and when it ends wash the blood from yourself and then pray.
Hadith 333
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى ابْنُ يَحْيَى ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، وَأَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي . ح وحَدَّثَنَا خَلَفُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ كُلُّهُمْ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، بِمِثْلِ حَدِيثِ وَكِيعٍ وَإِسْنَادِهِ ، وَفِي حَدِيثِ قُتَيْبَةَ ، عَنْ جَرِيرٍ جَاءَتْ فَاطِمَةُ بِنْتُ أَبِي حُبَيْشِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ بْنِ أَسَدٍ وَهِيَ امْرَأَةٌ مِنَّا ، قَالَ : وَفِي حَدِيثِ حَمَّادِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ زِيَادَةُ حَرْفٍ ، تَرَكْنَا ذِكْرَهُ .
The hadith narrated by Waki' and with its chain of narrators has been transmitted on the authority of Hisham b. 'Urwa, but in the hadith narrated by Qutaiba on the authority of Jarir, the words are: " There came Fatimah b. Abu Hubaish, b. 'Abd al-Muttalib b. Asad, and she was a woman amongst us," and in the hadith of Hammid b. Zaid there is an addition of these words:" We abandoned mentioning him."
Hadith 346
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الرَّبِيعِ الزَّهْرَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ ، عَنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ ، قَالَ : " سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، عَنِ الرَّجُلِ يُصِيبُ مِنَ الْمَرْأَةِ ، ثُمَّ يُكْسِلُ ، فَقَالَ : يَغْسِلُ مَا أَصَابَهُ مِنَ الْمَرْأَةِ ، ثُمَّ يَتَوَضَّأُ ، وَيُصَلِّي " .
Ubayy Ibn Ka'b reported: I asked the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) about a man who has sexual intercourse with his wife, but leaves her before orgasm. Upon this he (the Holy Prophet) said: He should wash the secretion of his wife, and then perform ablution and offer prayer.
Hadith 346
وحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، حَدَّثَنَا مَحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، عَنِ الْمَلِيِّ ، عَنِ الْمَلِيِّ يَعْنِي بِقَوْلِهِ الْمَلِيِّ ، عَنِ الْمَلِيِّ أَبُو أَيُّوبَ ، عَنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ ، عَنِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، " أَنَّهُ قَالَ : فِي الرَّجُلِ يَأْتِي أَهْلَهُ ، ثُمَّ لَا يُنْزِلُ ، قَالَ : يَغْسِلُ ذَكَرَهُ ، وَيَتَوَضَّأُ " .
Ubayy ibn Ka'b narrated it from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) that he said: If a person has sexual intercourse with his wife, but does not experience orgasm, he should wash his organ and perform an ablution.
Hadith 367
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ ، وَابْنُ بِشْرٍ ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، " أَنَّهَا اسْتَعَارَتْ مِنْ أَسْمَاءَ ، قِلَادَةً فَهَلَكَتْ ، فَأَرْسَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَاسًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ فِي طَلَبِهَا ، فَأَدْرَكَتْهُمُ الصَّلَاةُ ، فَصَلَّوْا بِغَيْرِ وُضُوءٍ ، فَلَمَّا أَتَوْا النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ شَكَوْا ذَلِكَ إِلَيْهِ ، فَنَزَلَتْ آيَةُ التَّيَمُّمِ ، فَقَالَ أُسَيْدُ بْنُ حُضَيْرٍ : جَزَاكِ اللَّهُ خَيْرًا ، فَوَاللَّهِ مَا نَزَلَ بِكِ أَمْرٌ قَطُّ ، إِلَّا جَعَلَ اللَّهُ لَكِ مِنْهُ مَخْرَجًا ، وَجَعَلَ لِلْمُسْلِمِينَ فِيهِ بَرَكَةً " .
'A'isha reported she had borrowed from Asma' (her sister) a necklace and it was lost. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) sent men to search for it. As it was the time for prayer, they offered prayer without ablution (as water was not available there). When they came to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) , they made a complaint about it, and the verses pertaining to tayammum were revealed. Upon this Usaid bin Hadair said (to 'A'isha): May Allah grant you a good reward! Never has been there an occasion when you were beset with difficulty and Allah did not make you come out of that and made it an occasion of blessing for the Muslims.
Hadith 381
حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ مَخْلَدٍ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : " كَانَ ابْنُ أُمِّ مَكْتُومٍ ، يُؤَذِّنُ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ أَعْمَى " ،
A'isha reported: Ibn Umm Maktum used to pronounce Adhan at the behest of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) (despite the fact) that he was blind.
Hadith 381
وحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ الْمُرَادِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، وَسَعِيدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ ، بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ مِثْلَهُ .
A hadith like this has been transmitted by Hisham.
Hadith 412
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَةُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : " اشْتَكَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ نَاسٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ يَعُودُونَهُ ، فَصَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ جَالِسًا ، فَصَلُّوا بِصَلَاتِهِ قِيَامًا ، فَأَشَارَ إِلَيْهِمْ أَنِ اجْلِسُوا فَجَلَسُوا ، فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ ، قَالَ : إِنَّمَا جُعِلَ الإِمَامُ لِيُؤْتَمَّ بِهِ ، فَإِذَا رَكَعَ فَارْكَعُوا ، وَإِذَا رَفَعَ فَارْفَعُوا ، وَإِذَا صَلَّى جَالِسًا فَصَلُّوا جُلُوسًا " .
'A'isha reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) fell ill and some of his Companions came to inquire after his health. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) (may peace he upon him) said prayer sitting, while (his Companions) said it (behind him) standing. He (the Holy Prophet) directed them by his gesture to sit down, and they sat down (in prayer). After finishing the (prayer) he (the Holy Prophet) said: The Imam is appointed so that be should be followed, so bow down when he bows down, and rise up when he rises up and say (prayer) sitting when he (the Imam) says (it) sitting. ________
Hadith 412
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الرَّبِيعِ الزَّهْرَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ زَيْدٍ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي جَمِيعًا ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ نَحْوَهُ .
This hadith is narrated with the same chain of transmitters by Hisham bin 'Urwa.
Hadith 418
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ وَأَلْفَاظُهُمْ مُتَقَارِبَةٌ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : " أَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَبَا بَكْرٍ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ بِالنَّاسِ فِي مَرَضِهِ ، فَكَانَ يُصَلِّي بِهِمْ ، قَالَ عُرْوَةُ : فَوَجَدَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ نَفْسِهِ خِفَّةً ، فَخَرَجَ ، وَإِذَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ يَؤُمُّ النَّاسَ ، فَلَمَّا رَآهُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ اسْتَأْخَرَ ، فَأَشَارَ إِلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَيْ كَمَا أَنْتَ ، فَجَلَسَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِذَاءَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، إِلَى جَنْبِهِ ، فَكَانَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ يُصَلِّي بِصَلَاةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَالنَّاسُ يُصَلُّونَ بِصَلَاةِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ " .
'A'isha reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) ordered Abu Bakr (RA) that he should lead people in prayer during his illness, and he led them in prayer. 'Urwa said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) felt relief and went (to the mosque) and Abu Bakr (RA) was leading the people in prayer. When Abu Bakr (RA) saw him he began to withdraw, but the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) signed him to remain where he was. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) sat opposite to Abu Bakr (RA) by his side. Abu Bakr (RA) said prayer following the prayer of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) , and the people said prayer following the prayer of Abu Bakr.
Hadith 447
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، أَخْبَرَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ زَكَرِيَّاءَ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، " فِي قَوْلِهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ : وَلا تَجْهَرْ بِصَلاتِكَ وَلا تُخَافِتْ بِهَا سورة الإسراء آية 110 ، قَالَتْ : أُنْزِلَ هَذَا فِي الدُّعَاءِ ،
'A'isha reported that so far as these words of (Allah) Glorious and High are concerned:" And utter not thy prayer loudly, not be low in it" (xvii. 110) relate to supplication (du'a').
Hadith 447
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ زَيْدٍ . ح قَالَ : وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ وَوَكِيعٌ . ح قَالَ أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ كُلُّهُمْ ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ ، بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ مِثْلَهُ .
A hadith like this has been narrated by Hisham with the same chain of transmitters.
Hadith 512
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : " كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يُصَلِّي صَلَاتَهُ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ كُلَّهَا ، وَأَنَا مُعْتَرِضَةٌ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ الْقِبْلَةِ ، فَإِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يُوتِرَ ، أَيْقَظَنِي ، فَأَوْتَرْتُ " .
'A'isha reported: The Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) said his whole prayer (Tahajjud prayer) during the night while I lay between him and the Qibla. When he intended to say Witr (prayer) he awakened me and I too said witr (prayer).
Hadith 517
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ أَخْبَرَهُ ، قَالَ : " رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يُصَلِّي فِي ثَوْبٍ وَاحِدٍ ، مُشْتَمِلًا بِهِ فِي بَيْتِ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، وَاضِعًا طَرَفَيْهِ عَلَى عَاتِقَيْهِ " ،
Umar bin Abu Salama reported: I saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) praying in Umm Salamah's house in a single garment, placing its two ends over his shoulders.
Hadith 517
حَدَّثَنَاه أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَإِسْحَاق بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ وَكِيعٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ ، غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ : مُتَوَشِّحًا ، وَلَمْ يَقُلْ : مُشْتَمِلًا .
This hadith has been narrated by Hisham bin 'Urwa with the same chain of transmitters except (with this difference) that the word mutawashshihan was used and not the word mushtamilan.
Hadith 517
وحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، أَخْبَرَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، قَالَ : " رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يُصَلِّي فِي بَيْتِ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، فِي ثَوْبٍ ، قَدْ خَالَفَ بَيْنَ طَرَفَيْهِ " .
'Umar bin Abu Salama reported: I saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) saying prayer in the house of Umm Salamah in a single garment with its extremities crossing each other.
Hadith 528
وَحَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ ، أَخْبَرَنِي أَبِي ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، أَنَّ أُمَّ حَبِيبَةَ وَأُمَّ سَلَمَةَ ، ذَكَرَتَا كَنِيسَةً رَأَيْنَهَا بِالْحَبَشَةِ ، فِيهَا تَصَاوِيرُ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّ أُولَئِكِ إِذَا كَانَ فِيهِمُ الرَّجُلُ الصَّالِحُ فَمَاتَ ، بَنَوْا عَلَى قَبْرِهِ مَسْجِدًا ، وَصَوَّرُوا فِيهِ تِلْكِ الصُّوَرَ ، أُولَئِكِ شِرَارُ الْخَلْقِ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ " .
'A'isha reported: Umm Habiba and Umm Salamah made a mention before the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) of a church which they had seen in Abyssinia and which had pictures in it. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: When a pious person amongst them (among the religious groups) dies they build a place of worship on his grave, and then decorate it with such pictures. They would be the worst of creatures on the Day of Judgment in the sight of Allah.
Hadith 528
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، عَمْرٌو النَّاقِدُ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنِ عَائِشَةَ ، أَنَّهُمْ تَذَاكَرُوا عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي مَرَضِهِ ، فَذَكَرَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ ، وَأُمُّ حَبِيبَةَ ، كَنِيسَةً ، ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ نَحْوَهُ .
'A'isha reported: They (some Companions of the Holy Prophet) were conversing with one another in the presence of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) (during his last) illness. Umm Salamah and Umm Habiba made a mention of the church and then (the hadith was) narrated.
Hadith 528
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : ذَكَرْنَ أَزْوَاجُ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَنِيسَةً ، رَأَيْنَهَا بِأَرْضِ الْحَبَشَةِ ، يُقَالُ لَهَا : مَارِيَةُ ، بِمِثْلِ حَدِيثِهِمْ .
'A'isha reported: The wives of the Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) (may peace be Upon him) made a mention of the church which they had seen in Abyssinia which was called Marya, and the rest of the hadith is the same.
