Hadith 1830
حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصِ بْنِ غِيَاثٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي إِبْرَاهِيمُ ، عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : " بَيْنَمَا نَحْنُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي غَارٍ بِمِنًى ، إِذْ نَزَلَ عَلَيْهِ : وَالْمُرْسَلاتِ ، وَإِنَّهُ لَيَتْلُوهَا ، وَإِنِّي لَأَتَلَقَّاهَا مِنْ فِيهِ ، وَإِنَّ فَاهُ لَرَطْبٌ بِهَا إِذْ وَثَبَتْ عَلَيْنَا حَيَّةٌ ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : اقْتُلُوهَا ، فَابْتَدَرْنَاهَا ، فَذَهَبَتْ ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : وُقِيَتْ شَرَّكُمْ ، كَمَا وُقِيتُمْ شَرَّهَا ".
Narrated `Abdullah: While we were in the company of the Prophet in a cave at Mina, when Surat-wal-Mursalat were revealed and he recited it and I heard it (directly) from his mouth as soon as he recited its revelation. Suddenly a snake sprang at us and the Prophet said (ordered us): "Kill it." We ran to kill it but it escaped quickly. The Prophet said, "It has escaped your evil and you too have escaped its evil."
Hadith 1870
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ التَّيْمِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : " مَا عِنْدَنَا شَيْءٌ إِلَّا كِتَابُ اللَّهِ ، وَهَذِهِ الصَّحِيفَةُ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْمَدِينَةُ ، حَرَمٌ مَا بَيْنَ عَائِرٍ إِلَى كَذَا مَنْ أَحْدَثَ فِيهَا حَدَثًا ، أَوْ آوَى مُحْدِثًا فَعَلَيْهِ لَعْنَةُ اللَّهِ ، وَالْمَلَائِكَةِ ، وَالنَّاسِ أَجْمَعِينَ ، لَا يُقْبَلُ مِنْهُ صَرْفٌ ، وَلَا عَدْلٌ ، وَقَالَ : " ذِمَّةُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ وَاحِدَةٌ فَمَنْ أَخْفَرَ مُسْلِمًا فَعَلَيْهِ لَعْنَةُ اللَّهِ ، وَالْمَلَائِكَةِ ، وَالنَّاسِ أَجْمَعِينَ ، لَا يُقْبَلُ مِنْهُ صَرْفٌ ، وَلَا عَدْلٌ ، وَمَنْ تَوَلَّى قَوْمًا بِغَيْرِ إِذْنِ مَوَالِيهِ ، فَعَلَيْهِ لَعْنَةُ اللَّهِ ، وَالْمَلَائِكَةِ ، وَالنَّاسِ أَجْمَعِينَ ، لَا يُقْبَلُ مِنْهُ صَرْفٌ وَلَا عَدْلٌ " ، قَالَ أَبُو عَبْد اللَّهِ : عَدْلٌ فِدَاءٌ .
Narrated `Ali: We have nothing except the Book of Allah and this written paper from the Prophet (wherein is written:) Medina is a sanctuary from the 'Air Mountain to such and such a place, and whoever innovates in it an heresy or commits a sin, or gives shelter to such an innovator in it will incur the curse of Allah, the angels, and all the people, none of his compulsory or optional good deeds of worship will be accepted. And the asylum (of protection) granted by any Muslim is to be secured (respected) by all the other Muslims; and whoever betrays a Muslim in this respect incurs the curse of Allah, the angels, and all the people, and none of his compulsory or optional good deeds of worship will be accepted, and whoever (freed slave) befriends (take as masters) other than his manumitters without their permission incurs the curse of Allah, the angels, and all the people, and none of his compulsory or optional good deeds of worship will be accepted.
Hadith 1905
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَانُ ، عَنْ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ ، قَالَ : بَيْنَا أَنَا أَمْشِي مَعَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، فَقَالَ : كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : " مَنِ اسْتَطَاعَ الْبَاءَةَ فَلْيَتَزَوَّجْ ، فَإِنَّهُ أَغَضُّ لِلْبَصَرِ وَأَحْصَنُ لِلْفَرْجِ ، وَمَنْ لَمْ يَسْتَطِعْ فَعَلَيْهِ بِالصَّوْمِ ، فَإِنَّهُ لَهُ وِجَاءٌ " .
Narrated 'Alqama: While I was walking with `Abdullah he said, "We were in the company of the Prophet and he said, 'He who can afford to marry should marry, because it will help him refrain from looking at other women, and save his private parts from committing illegal sexual relation; and he who cannot afford to marry is advised to fast, as fasting will diminish his sexual power."
Hadith 1953
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحِيمِ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ، حَدَّثَنَا زَائِدَةُ ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ مُسْلِمٍ الْبَطِينِ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : " جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّ أُمِّي مَاتَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا صَوْمُ شَهْرٍ ، أَفَأَقْضِيهِ عَنْهَا ؟ قَالَ : نَعَمْ ، قَالَ : فَدَيْنُ اللَّهِ أَحَقُّ أَنْ يُقْضَى " ، قَالَ سُلَيْمَانُ : فَقَالَ الْحَكَمُ وَسَلَمَةُ وَنَحْنُ جَمِيعًا جُلُوسٌ ، حِينَ حَدَّثَ مُسْلِمٌ بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ ، قَالَا : سَمِعْنَا مُجَاهِدًا يَذْكُرُ هَذَا عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، وَيُذْكَرُ عَنْ أَبِي خَالِدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ ، وَمُسْلِمٍ الْبَطِينِ ، وَسَلَمَةِ بْنِ كُهَيْلٍ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ ، وَعَطَاءٍ ، وَمُجَاهِدٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَتِ امْرَأَةٌ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : إِنَّ أُخْتِي مَاتَتْ ، وَقَالَ يَحْيَى ، وَأَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ مُسْلِمٍ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَتِ امْرَأَةٌ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : إِنَّ أُمِّي مَاتَتْ ، وَقَالَ عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَبِي أُنَيْسَةَ ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَتِ امْرَأَةٌ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : إِنَّ أُمِّي مَاتَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا صَوْمُ نَذْرٍ ، وَقَالَ أَبُو حَرِيزٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عِكْرِمَةُ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَتِ امْرَأَةٌ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : مَاتَتْ أُمِّي وَعَلَيْهَا صَوْمُ خَمْسَةَ عَشَرَ يَوْمًا .
Narrated Ibn `Abbas: A man came to the Prophet and said, "O Allah's Apostle! My mother died and she ought to have fasted one month (for her missed Ramadan). Shall I fast on her behalf?" The Prophet replied in the affirmative and said, "Allah's debts have more right to be paid." In another narration a woman is reported to have said, "My sister died..." Narrated Ibn `Abbas: A woman said to the Prophet "My mother died and she had vowed to fast but she didn't fast." In another narration Ibn `Abbas is reported to have said, "A woman said to the Prophet, "My mother died while she ought to have fasted for fifteen days."
Hadith 1985
حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصِ بْنِ غِيَاثٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " لَا يَصُومَنَّ أَحَدُكُمْ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ ، إِلَّا يَوْمًا قَبْلَهُ أَوْ بَعْدَهُ " .
Narrated Abu Huraira: I heard the Prophet saying, "None of you should fast on Friday unless he fasts a day before or after it."
Hadith 2068
حَدَّثَنَا مُعَلَّى بْنُ أَسَدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، قَالَ : ذَكَرْنَا عِنْدَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الرَّهْنَ فِي السَّلَمِ ، فَقَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي الْأَسْوَدُ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا ، " أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ اشْتَرَى طَعَامًا مِنْ يَهُودِيٍّ إِلَى أَجَلٍ ، وَرَهَنَهُ دِرْعًا مِنْ حَدِيدٍ " .
Narrated `Aisha: The Prophet purchased food grains from a Jew on credit and mortgaged his iron armor to him.
Hadith 2081
حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي شَقِيقٌ ، عَنْ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ ، قَالَ : " جَاءَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ الْأَنْصَارِ يُكْنَى أَبَا شُعَيْبٍ ، فَقَالَ لِغُلَامٍ لَهُ قَصَّابٍ : اجْعَلْ لِي طَعَامًا يَكْفِي خَمْسَةً ؟ فَإِنِّي أُرِيدُ أَنْ أَدْعُوَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَامِسَ خَمْسَةٍ ، فَإِنِّي قَدْ عَرَفْتُ فِي وَجْهِهِ الْجُوعَ ، فَدَعَاهُمْ فَجَاءَ مَعَهُمْ رَجُلٌ ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : إِنَّ هَذَا قَدْ تَبِعَنَا ، فَإِنْ شِئْتَ أَنْ تَأْذَنَ لَهُ فَأْذَنْ لَهُ ، وَإِنْ شِئْتَ أَنْ يَرْجِعَ رَجَعَ ، فَقَالَ : لَا ، بَلْ قَدْ أَذِنْتُ لَهُ .
Narrated Abu Mas`ud: An Ansari man, called Abu Shu'aib, came and told his butcher slave, "Prepare meals sufficient for five persons, for I want to invite the Prophet along with four other persons as I saw signs of hunger on his face." Abu Shu'aib invited them and another person came along with them. The Prophet said (to Abu Shu'aib), This man followed us, so if you allow him, he will join us, and if you want him to return, he will go back." Abu Shu'aib said, "No, I have allowed him (i.e. he, too, is welcomed to the meal).
Hadith 2091
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ ، عَنْ أَبِي الضُّحَى ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ ، عَنْ خَبَّابٍ ، قَالَ : " كُنْتُ قَيْنًا فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ ، وَكَانَ لِي عَلَى الْعَاصِ بْنِ وَائِلٍ دَيْنٌ فَأَتَيْتُهُ ، أَتَقَاضَاهُ ؟ قَالَ : لَا ، أُعْطِيكَ حَتَّى تَكْفُرَ بِمُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقُلْتُ : لَا أَكْفُرُ حَتَّى يُمِيتَكَ اللَّهُ ، ثُمَّ تُبْعَثَ ، قَالَ : دَعْنِي حَتَّى أَمُوتَ وَأُبْعَثَ ، فَسَأُوتَى مَالًا وَوَلَدًا فَأَقْضِيكَ ، فَنَزَلَتْ : أَفَرَأَيْتَ الَّذِي كَفَرَ بِآيَاتِنَا وَقَالَ لأُوتَيَنَّ مَالا وَوَلَدًا { 77 } أَطَّلَعَ الْغَيْبَ أَمِ اتَّخَذَ عِنْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ عَهْدًا { 78 } سورة مريم آية 77-78 " .
Narrated Khabbab: I was a blacksmith in the Pre-Islamic period, and 'Asi bin Wail owed me some money, so I went to him to demand it. He said (to me), "I will not pay you unless you disbelieve Muhammad." I said, "I will not disbelieve till Allah kills you and then you get resurrected." He said, "Leave me till I die and get resurrected, then I will be given wealth and children and I will pay you your debt." On that occasion it was revealed to the Prophet: 'Have you seen him who disbelieved in Our signs and says: Surely I will be given wealth and children? Has he known the unseen, or has he taken a covenant from the Beneficent (Allah)? (19.77- 78)
Hadith 2096
حَدَّثَنَا يُوسُفُ بْنُ عِيسَى ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا ، قَالَتْ : "اشْتَرَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ يَهُودِيٍّ طَعَامًا بِنَسِيئَةٍ ، وَرَهَنَهُ دِرْعَهُ " .
Narrated `Aisha: Allah's Apostle bought food grains from a Jew on credit and mortgaged his armor to him.
Hadith 2119
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " صَلَاةُ أَحَدِكُمْ فِي جَمَاعَةٍ تَزِيدُ عَلَى صَلَاتِهِ فِي سُوقِهِ ، وَبَيْتِهِ ، بِضْعًا وَعِشْرِينَ دَرَجَةً ، وَذَلِكَ بِأَنَّهُ إِذَا تَوَضَّأَ فَأَحْسَنَ الْوُضُوءَ ، ثُمَّ أَتَى الْمَسْجِدَ ، لَا يُرِيدُ إِلَّا الصَّلَاةَ ، لَا يَنْهَزُهُ إِلَّا الصَّلَاةُ ، لَمْ يَخْطُ خَطْوَةً إِلَّا رُفِعَ بِهَا دَرَجَةً ، أَوْ حُطَّتْ عَنْهُ بِهَا خَطِيئَةٌ ، وَالْمَلَائِكَةُ تُصَلِّي عَلَى أَحَدِكُمْ مَا دَامَ فِي مُصَلَّاهُ الَّذِي يُصَلِّي فِيهِ : اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَيْهِ ، اللَّهُمَّ ارْحَمْهُ ، مَا لَمْ يُحْدِثْ فِيهِ مَا لَمْ يُؤْذِ فِيهِ ، وَقَالَ أَحَدُكُمْ فِي صَلَاةٍ مَا كَانَتِ الصَّلَاةُ تَحْبِسُهُ " .
Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle said, "The congregational prayer of anyone amongst you is more than twenty (five or twenty seven) times in reward than his prayer in the market or in his house, for if he performs ablution completely and then goes to the mosque with the sole intention of performing the prayer, and nothing urges him to proceed to the mosque except the prayer, then, on every step which he takes towards the mosque, he will be raised one degree or one of his sins will be forgiven. The angels will keep on asking Allah's forgiveness and blessings for everyone of you so long as he keeps sitting at his praying place. The angels will say, 'O Allah, bless him! O Allah, be merciful to him!' as long as he does not do Hadath or a thing which gives trouble to the other." The Prophet further said, "One is regarded in prayer so long as one is waiting for the prayer."
Hadith 2200
حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصِ بْنِ غِيَاثٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، قَالَ : ذَكَرْنَا عِنْدَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الرَّهْنَ فِي السَّلَفِ ، فَقَالَ : لَا بَأْسَ بِهِ ، ثُمَّ حَدَّثَنَا ، عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " اشْتَرَى طَعَامًا مِنْ يَهُودِيٍّ إِلَى أَجَلٍ ، فَرَهَنَهُ دِرْعَهُ " .
Narrated `Aisha: The Prophet bought some foodstuff from a Jew on credit and mortgaged his armor to him.
Hadith 2226
حَدَّثَنَا مُسْلِمٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي الضُّحَى ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا ، لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ آيَاتُ سُورَةِ الْبَقَرَةِ عَنْ آخِرِهَا ، خَرَجَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : " حُرِّمَتِ التِّجَارَةُ فِي الْخَمْرِ " .
Narrated `Aisha: When the last verses of Surat-al-Baqara were revealed, the Prophet went out (of his house to the Mosque) and said, "The trade of alcohol has become illegal."
Hadith 2251
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَّامٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَعْلَى ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا ، قَالَتِ : " اشْتَرَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ طَعَامًا مِنْ يَهُودِيٍّ بِنَسِيئَةٍ ، وَرَهَنَهُ دِرْعًا لَهُ مِنْ حَدِيدٍ " .
Narrated `Aisha: Allah's Apostle bought some foodstuff (barley) from a Jew on credit and mortgaged his iron armor to him (the armor stands for a guarantor).
Hadith 2252
حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَحْبُوبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، قَالَ : تَذَاكَرْنَا عِنْدَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، الرَّهْنَ فِي السَّلَفِ ، فَقَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي الْأَسْوَدُ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " اشْتَرَى مِنْ يَهُودِيٍّ طَعَامًا إِلَى أَجَلٍ مَعْلُومٍ ، وَارْتَهَنَ مِنْهُ دِرْعًا مِنْ حَدِيدٍ " .
Narrated Al-A`mash: We argued at Ibrahim's dwelling place about mortgaging in Salam. He said, "Aisha said, 'The Prophet bought some foodstuff from a Jew on credit and the payment was to be made by a definite period, and he mortgaged his iron armor to him."
Hadith 2273
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ الْقُرَشِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ شَقِيقٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا " أَمَرَنَا بِالصَّدَقَةِ ، انْطَلَقَ أَحَدُنَا إِلَى السُّوقِ فَيُحَامِلُ فَيُصِيبُ الْمُدَّ ، وَإِنَّ لِبَعْضِهِمْ لَمِائَةَ أَلْفٍ ، قَالَ : مَا تَرَاهُ إِلَّا نَفْسَهُ " .
Narrated Abu May' id Al-Ansari: Whenever Allah's Apostle ordered us to give in charity we would go to the market and work as porters to earn a Mudd (two handfuls) (of foodstuff) but now some of us have one-hundred thousand Dirhams or Diners. (The sub-narrator) Shaqiq said, "I think Abu Mas`ud meant himself by saying (some of us) .
Hadith 2275
حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ مُسْلِمٍ ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا خَبَّابٌ ، قَالَ : " كُنْتُ رَجُلًا قَيْنًا ، فَعَمِلْتُ لِلْعَاصِ بْنِ وَائِلٍ ، فَاجْتَمَعَ لِي عِنْدَهُ ، فَأَتَيْتُهُ أَتَقَاضَاهُ ، فَقَالَ : لَا ، وَاللَّهِ لَا أَقْضِيكَ حَتَّى تَكْفُرَ بِمُحَمَّدٍ ، فَقُلْتُ : أَمَا وَاللَّهِ حَتَّى تَمُوتَ ثُمَّ تُبْعَثَ فَلَا ، قَالَ : وَإِنِّي لَمَيِّتٌ ثُمَّ مَبْعُوثٌ ، قُلْتُ : نَعَمْ ، قَالَ : فَإِنَّهُ سَيَكُونُ لِي ، ثَمَّ مَالٌ وَوَلَدٌ فَأَقْضِيكَ ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى : أَفَرَأَيْتَ الَّذِي كَفَرَ بِآيَاتِنَا وَقَالَ لأُوتَيَنَّ مَالا وَوَلَدًا سورة مريم آية 77 " .
Narrated Khabbab: I was a blacksmith and did some work for Al-`As bin Wail. When he owed me some money for my work, I went to him to ask for that amount. He said, "I will not pay you unless you disbelieve in Muhammad." I said, "By Allah! I will never do that till you die and be resurrected." He said, "Will I be dead and then resurrected after my death?" I said, "Yes." He said, "There I will have property and offspring and then I will pay you your due." Then Allah revealed. 'Have you seen him who disbelieved in Our signs, and yet says: I will be given property and offspring?' (19.77)
Hadith 2356
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَانُ ، عَنْ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ شَقِيقٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : "مَنْ حَلَفَ عَلَى يَمِينٍ يَقْتَطِعُ بِهَا مَالَ امْرِئٍ مُسْلِمٍ هُوَ عَلَيْهَا فَاجِرٌ ، لَقِيَ اللَّهَ وَهُوَ عَلَيْهِ غَضْبَانُ ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى : إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَشْتَرُونَ بِعَهْدِ اللَّهِ وَأَيْمَانِهِمْ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلا سورة آل عمران آية 77 الْآيَةَ " . فَجَاءَ الْأَشْعَثُ ، فَقَالَ : مَا حَدَّثَكُمْ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ فِيَّ أُنْزِلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ كَانَتْ لِي بِئْرٌ فِي أَرْضِ ابْنِ عَمٍّ لِي ، فَقَالَ لِي : شُهُودَكَ ؟ قُلْتُ : مَا لِي شُهُودٌ ، قَالَ : فَيَمِينُهُ ، قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِذًا يَحْلِفَ فَذَكَرَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ ذَلِكَ تَصْدِيقًا لَهُ .
Narrated `Abdullah (bin Mas`ud): The Prophet said, "Whoever takes a false oath to deprive somebody of his property will meet Allah while He will be angry with him." Allah revealed: 'Verily those who purchase a little gain at the cost of Allah's covenant, and their oaths.' ........(3.77) Al-Ashath came (to the place where `Abdullah was narrating) and said, "What has Abu `Abdur- Rahman (i.e. `Abdullah) been telling you? This verse was revealed concerning me. I had a well in the land of a cousin of mine. The Prophet asked me to bring witnesses (to confirm my claim). I said, 'I don't have witnesses.' He said, 'Let the defendant take an oath then.' I said, 'O Allah's Apostle! He will take a (false) oath immediately.' Then the Prophet mentioned the above narration and Allah revealed the verse to confirm what he had said." (See Hadith No. 692)
Hadith 2357
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَانُ ، عَنْ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ شَقِيقٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : "مَنْ حَلَفَ عَلَى يَمِينٍ يَقْتَطِعُ بِهَا مَالَ امْرِئٍ مُسْلِمٍ هُوَ عَلَيْهَا فَاجِرٌ ، لَقِيَ اللَّهَ وَهُوَ عَلَيْهِ غَضْبَانُ ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى : إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَشْتَرُونَ بِعَهْدِ اللَّهِ وَأَيْمَانِهِمْ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلا سورة آل عمران آية 77 الْآيَةَ " . فَجَاءَ الْأَشْعَثُ ، فَقَالَ : مَا حَدَّثَكُمْ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ فِيَّ أُنْزِلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ كَانَتْ لِي بِئْرٌ فِي أَرْضِ ابْنِ عَمٍّ لِي ، فَقَالَ لِي : شُهُودَكَ ؟ قُلْتُ : مَا لِي شُهُودٌ ، قَالَ : فَيَمِينُهُ ، قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِذًا يَحْلِفَ فَذَكَرَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ ذَلِكَ تَصْدِيقًا لَهُ .
Narrated `Abdullah (bin Mas`ud): The Prophet said, "Whoever takes a false oath to deprive somebody of his property will meet Allah while He will be angry with him." Hadith 2358
حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَبَا صَالِحٍ ، يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، يَقُولُ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " ثَلَاثَةٌ لَا يَنْظُرُ اللَّهُ إِلَيْهِمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَلَا يُزَكِّيهِمْ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ : رَجُلٌ كَانَ لَهُ فَضْلُ مَاءٍ بِالطَّرِيقِ فَمَنَعَهُ مِنَ ابْنِ السَّبِيلِ ، وَرَجُلٌ بَايَعَ إِمَامًا لَا يُبَايِعُهُ إِلَّا لِدُنْيَا فَإِنْ أَعْطَاهُ مِنْهَا رَضِيَ وَإِنْ لَمْ يُعْطِهِ مِنْهَا سَخِطَ ، وَرَجُلٌ أَقَامَ سِلْعَتَهُ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ " . فَقَالَ : وَاللَّهِ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ غَيْرُهُ ، لَقَدْ أَعْطَيْتُ بِهَا كَذَا وَكَذَا ، فَصَدَّقَهُ رَجُلٌ ، ثُمَّ قَرَأَ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَشْتَرُونَ بِعَهْدِ اللَّهِ وَأَيْمَانِهِمْ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلا سورة آل عمران آية 77 .
Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle said, "There are three persons whom Allah will not look at on the Day of Resurrection, nor will he purify them and theirs shall be a severe punishment. They are: -1. A man possessed superfluous water, on a way and he withheld it from travelers. -2. A man who gave a pledge of allegiance to a ruler and he gave it only for worldly benefits. If the ruler gives him something he gets satisfied, and if the ruler withholds something from him, he gets dissatisfied. -3. And man displayed his goods for sale after the `Asr prayer and he said, 'By Allah, except Whom None has the right to be worshipped, I have been given so much for my goods,' and somebody believes him (and buys them). The Prophet then recited: "Verily! Those who purchase a little gain at the cost of Allah's Covenant and their oaths." (3.77)
Hadith 2386
حَدَّثَنَا مُعَلَّى بْنُ أَسَدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، قَالَ : تَذَاكَرْنَا عِنْدَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الرَّهْنَ فِي السَّلَمِ ، فَقَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي الْأَسْوَدُ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا ، " أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ اشْتَرَى طَعَامًا مِنْ يَهُودِيٍّ إِلَى أَجَلٍ ، وَرَهَنَهُ دِرْعًا مِنْ حَدِيدٍ " .
Narrated Al-A`mash: When we were with Ibrahim, we talked about mortgaging in deals of Salam. Ibrahim narrated from Aswad that `Aisha had said, "The Prophet bought some foodstuff on credit from a Jew and mortgaged an iron armor to him."
Hadith 2388
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُونُسَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو شِهَابٍ ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ وَهْبٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : " كُنْتُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَلَمَّا أَبْصَرَ يَعْنِي أُحُدًا ، قَالَ : مَا أُحِبُّ أَنَّهُ يُحَوَّلُ لِي ذَهَبًا يَمْكُثُ عِنْدِي مِنْهُ دِينَارٌ فَوْقَ ثَلَاثٍ إِلَّا دِينَارًا أُرْصِدُهُ لِدَيْنٍ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : إِنَّ الْأَكْثَرِينَ هُمُ الْأَقَلُّونَ ، إِلَّا مَنْ قَالَ بِالْمَالِ هَكَذَا وَهَكَذَا ، وَأَشَارَ أَبُو شِهَابٍ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ ، وَعَنْ يَمِينِهِ ، وَعَنْ شِمَالِهِ ، وَقَلِيلٌ مَا هُمْ ، وَقَالَ : مَكَانَكَ ، وَتَقَدَّمَ غَيْرَ بَعِيدٍ فَسَمِعْتُ صَوْتًا فَأَرَدْتُ أَنْ آتِيَهُ ، ثُمَّ ذَكَرْتُ قَوْلَهُ مَكَانَكَ حَتَّى آتِيَكَ ، فَلَمَّا جَاءَ ، قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، الَّذِي سَمِعْتُ أَوْ قَالَ الصَّوْتُ الَّذِي سَمِعْتُ ، قَالَ : وَهَلْ سَمِعْتَ ؟ قُلْتُ : نَعَمْ ، قَالَ : أَتَانِي جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام ، فَقَالَ : مَنْ مَاتَ مِنْ أُمَّتِكَ لَا يُشْرِكُ بِاللَّهِ شَيْئًا دَخَلَ الْجَنَّةَ ، قُلْتُ : وَإِنْ فَعَلَ كَذَا وَكَذَا ، قَالَ : نَعَمْ " .
Narrated Abu Dhar: Once, while I was in the company of the Prophet, he saw the mountain of Uhud and said, "I would not like to have this mountain turned into gold for me unless nothing of it, not even a single Dinar remains of it with me for more than three days (i.e. I will spend all of it in Allah's Cause), except that Dinar which I will keep for repaying debts." Then he said, "Those who are rich in this world would have little reward in the Hereafter except those who spend their money here and there (in Allah's Cause), and they are few in number." Then he ordered me to stay at my place and went not far away. I heard a voice and intended to go to him but I remembered his order, "Stay at your place till I return." On his return I said, "O Allah's Apostle! (What was) that noise which I heard?" He said, "Did you hear anything?" I said, "Yes." He said, "Gabriel came and said to me, 'Whoever amongst your followers dies, worshipping none along with Allah, will enter Paradise.' " I said, "Even if he did such-and-such things (i.e. even if he stole or committed illegal sexual intercourse)" He said, "Yes."
Hadith 2416
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ شَقِيقٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَنْ حَلَفَ عَلَى يَمِينٍ وَهُوَ فِيهَا فَاجِرٌ لِيَقْتَطِعَ بِهَا مَالَ امْرِئٍ مُسْلِمٍ ، لَقِيَ اللَّهَ وَهُوَ عَلَيْهِ غَضْبَانُ " ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ الْأَشْعَثُ : فِيَّ وَاللَّهِ كَانَ ذَلِكَ ، كَانَ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ رَجُلٍ مِنْ الْيَهُودِ أَرْضٌ ، فَجَحَدَنِي ، فَقَدَّمْتُهُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : أَلَكَ بَيِّنَةٌ ؟ قُلْتُ : لَا ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ لِلْيَهُودِيِّ : احْلِفْ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِذًا يَحْلِفَ وَيَذْهَبَ بِمَالِي ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى : إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَشْتَرُونَ بِعَهْدِ اللَّهِ وَأَيْمَانِهِمْ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلا سورة آل عمران آية 77 ، إِلَى آخِرِ الْآيَةِ .
Narrated `Abdullah bin Mas`ud: Allah's Apostle said, "Whoever takes a false oath so as to take the property of a Muslim (illegally) will meet Allah while He will be angry with him." Al-Ash'ath said: By Allah, that saying concerned me. I had common land with a Jew, and the Jew later on denied my ownership, so I took him to the Prophet who asked me whether I had a proof of my ownership. When I replied in the negative, the Prophet asked the Jew to take an oath. I said, "O Allah's Apostle! He will take an oath and deprive me of my property." So, Allah revealed the following verse: "Verily! Those who purchase a little gain at the cost of Allah's covenant and their oaths." (3.77)
Hadith 2417
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ شَقِيقٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَنْ حَلَفَ عَلَى يَمِينٍ وَهُوَ فِيهَا فَاجِرٌ لِيَقْتَطِعَ بِهَا مَالَ امْرِئٍ مُسْلِمٍ ، لَقِيَ اللَّهَ وَهُوَ عَلَيْهِ غَضْبَانُ " ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ الْأَشْعَثُ : فِيَّ وَاللَّهِ كَانَ ذَلِكَ ، كَانَ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ رَجُلٍ مِنْ الْيَهُودِ أَرْضٌ ، فَجَحَدَنِي ، فَقَدَّمْتُهُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : أَلَكَ بَيِّنَةٌ ؟ قُلْتُ : لَا ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ لِلْيَهُودِيِّ : احْلِفْ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِذًا يَحْلِفَ وَيَذْهَبَ بِمَالِي ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى : إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَشْتَرُونَ بِعَهْدِ اللَّهِ وَأَيْمَانِهِمْ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلا سورة آل عمران آية 77 ، إِلَى آخِرِ الْآيَةِ .

Hadith 2425
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ ، حَدَّثَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرِ بْنِ حَازِمٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي الضُّحَى ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ ، عَنْ خَبَّابٍ ، قَالَ : "كُنْتُ قَيْنًا فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ ، وَكَانَ لِي عَلَى الْعَاصِ بْنِ وَائِلٍ دَرَاهِمُ ، فَأَتَيْتُهُ أَتَقَاضَاهُ ، فَقَالَ : لَا أَقْضِيكَ حَتَّى تَكْفُرَ بِمُحَمَّدٍ ، فَقُلْتُ : لَا ، وَاللَّهِ لَا أَكْفُرُ بِمُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى يُمِيتَكَ اللَّهُ ، ثُمَّ يَبْعَثَكَ ، قَالَ : فَدَعْنِي حَتَّى أَمُوتَ ، ثُمَّ أُبْعَثَ ، فَأُوتَى مَالًا وَوَلَدًا ، ثُمَّ أَقْضِيَكَ ، فَنَزَلَتْ أَفَرَأَيْتَ الَّذِي كَفَرَ بِآيَاتِنَا وَقَالَ لأُوتَيَنَّ مَالا وَوَلَدًا سورة مريم آية 77 الْآيَةَ " .
Narrated Khabbab: I was a blacksmith In the Pre-Islamic period of ignorance, and 'Asi bin Wail owed me some money. I went to him to demand it, but he said to me, "I will not pay you unless you reject faith in Muhammad." I replied, "By Allah, I will never disbelieve Muhammad till Allah let you die and then resurrect you." He said, "Then wait till I die and come to life again, for then I will be given property and offspring and will pay your right." So, thus revelation came: "Have you seen him who disbelieved in Our signs and yet says, 'I will be given property and offspring?' " (19.77)
Hadith 2456
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو النُّعْمَانِ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ ، " أَنَّ رَجُلًا مِنْ الْأَنْصَارِ يُقَالُ لَهُ أَبُو شُعَيْبٍ كَانَ لَهُ غُلَامٌ لَحَّامٌ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ أَبُو شُعَيْبٍ : اصْنَعْ لِي طَعَامَ خَمْسَةٍ لَعَلِّي أَدْعُو النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَامِسَ خَمْسَةٍ ، وَأَبْصَرَ فِي وَجْهِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْجُوعَ فَدَعَاهُ ، فَتَبِعَهُمْ رَجُلٌ لَمْ يُدْعَ ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : إِنَّ هَذَا قَدِ اتَّبَعَنَا أَتَأْذَنُ لَهُ ، قَالَ : نَعَمْ " .
Narrated Abu Mas`ud: There was an Ansari man called Abu Shu'aib who had a slave butcher. Abu Shu'aib said to him, "Prepare a meal sufficient for five persons so that I might invite the Prophet besides other four persons." Abu Shu'aib had seen the signs of hunger on the face of the Prophet and so he invited him. Another man who was not invited, followed the Prophet. The Prophet said to Abu Shu'aib, "This man has followed us. Do you allow him to share the meal?" Abu Shu'aib said, "Yes."
Hadith 2459
حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُرَّةَ ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " أَرْبَعٌ مَنْ كُنَّ فِيهِ كَانَ مُنَافِقًا أَوْ كَانَتْ فِيهِ خَصْلَةٌ مِنْ أَرْبَعَةٍ كَانَتْ فِيهِ خَصْلَةٌ مِنَ النِّفَاقِ حَتَّى يَدَعَهَا : إِذَا حَدَّثَ كَذَبَ ، وَإِذَا وَعَدَ أَخْلَفَ ، وَإِذَا عَاهَدَ غَدَرَ ، وَإِذَا خَاصَمَ فَجَرَ " .
Narrated `Abdullah bin `Amr: The Prophet said, "Whoever has (the following) four characters will be a hypocrite, and whoever has one of the following four characteristics will have one characteristic of hypocrisy until he gives it up. These are: (1 ) Whenever he talks, he tells a lie; (2) whenever he makes a promise, he breaks it; (3) whenever he makes a covenant he proves treacherous; (4) and whenever he quarrels, he behaves impudently in an evil insulting manner." (See Hadith No. 33 Vol. 1)
Hadith 2509
حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، قَالَ : تَذَاكَرْنَا عِنْدَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الرَّهْنَ وَالْقَبِيلَ فِي السَّلَفِ ، فَقَالَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ : حَدَّثَنَا الْأَسْوَدُ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " اشْتَرَى مِنْ يَهُودِيٍّ طَعَامًا إِلَى أَجَلٍ ، وَرَهَنَهُ دِرْعَهُ " .
Narrated `Aisha: The Prophet bought some foodstuff on credit for a limited period and mortgaged his armor for it.
Hadith 2513
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا ، قَالَتْ : " اشْتَرَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ يَهُودِيٍّ طَعَامًا ، وَرَهَنَهُ دِرْعَهُ " .
Narrated `Aisha: Allah's Apostle bought some foodstuff from a Jew and mortgaged his armor to him.
Hadith 2549
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " نِعْمَّا لِأَحَدِهِمْ يُحْسِنُ عِبَادَةَ رَبِّهِ وَيَنْصَحُ لِسَيِّدِهِ " .
Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "Goodness and comfort are for him who worships his Lord in a perfect manner and serves his master sincerely."
Hadith 2568
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ ، عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " لَوْ دُعِيتُ إِلَى ذِرَاعٍ أَوْ كُرَاعٍ لَأَجَبْتُ ، وَلَوْ أُهْدِيَ إِلَيَّ ذِرَاعٌ أَوْ كُرَاعٌ لَقَبِلْتُ " .
Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "I shall accept the invitation even if I were invited to a meal of a sheep's trotter, and I shall accept the gift even if it were an arm or a trotter of a sheep."
Hadith 2666
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ شَقِيقٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " حَلَفَ عَلَى يَمِينٍ وَهُوَ فِيهَا فَاجِرٌ لِيَقْتَطِعَ بِهَا مَالَ امْرِئٍ مُسْلِمٍ لَقِيَ اللَّهَ وَهُوَ عَلَيْهِ غَضْبَانُ " . قَالَ : فَقَالَ الْأَشْعَثُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ فِيَّ : وَاللَّهِ كَانَ ذَلِكَ كَانَ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ رَجُلٍ مِنْ الْيَهُودِ أَرْضٌ ، فَجَحَدَنِي ، فَقَدَّمْتُهُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : أَلَكَ بَيِّنَةٌ ؟ قَالَ : قُلْتُ لَا ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ لِلْيَهُودِيِّ : احْلِفْ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِذًا يَحْلِفَ وَيَذْهَبَ بِمَالِي ، قَالَ : فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَشْتَرُونَ بِعَهْدِ اللَّهِ وَأَيْمَانِهِمْ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلا سورة آل عمران آية 77 إِلَى آخِرِ الْآيَةِ .
Narrated `Abdullah: Allah's Apostle said, "If somebody takes a false oath in order to get the property of a Muslim (unjustly) by that oath, then Allah will be angry with him when he will meet Him." Al-Ash'ath informed me, "By Allah! This was said regarding me. There was a dispute about a piece of land between me and a man from the Jews who denied my right. I took him to the Prophet. Allah's Apostle asked me, 'Do you have an evidence?' I replied in the negative. He said to the Jew, 'Take an oath.' I said, 'O Allah's Apostle! He will surely take an oath and take my property unjustly." So, Allah revealed: "Verily! Those who purchase a little gain at the cost of Allah's covenant and their oaths . . . " (3.77)
Hadith 2667

Hadith 2672
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " ثَلَاثَةٌ لَا يُكَلِّمُهُمُ اللَّهُ وَلَا يَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِمْ وَلَا يُزَكِّيهِمْ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ : رَجُلٌ عَلَى فَضْلِ مَاءٍ بِطَرِيقٍ يَمْنَعُ مِنْهُ ابْنَ السَّبِيلِ ، وَرَجُلٌ بَايَعَ رَجُلًا لَا يُبَايِعُهُ إِلَّا لِلدُّنْيَا فَإِنْ أَعْطَاهُ مَا يُرِيدُ وَفَى لَهُ وَإِلَّا لَمْ يَفِ لَهُ ، وَرَجُلٌ سَاوَمَ رَجُلًا بِسِلْعَةٍ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ فَحَلَفَ بِاللَّهِ لَقَدْ أَعْطَى بِهَا كَذَا وَكَذَا فَأَخَذَهَا " .
Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle said, "There are three persons whom Allah will neither talk to nor look at, nor purify from (the sins), and they will have a painful punishment. (They are): (1) A man possessed superfluous water on a way and he withheld it from the travelers. (2) a man who gives a pledge of allegiance to a Muslim ruler and gives it only for worldly gains. If the ruler gives him what he wants, he remains obedient to It, otherwise he does not abide by it, and (3) a man bargains with another man after the `Asr prayer and the latter takes a false oath in the Name of Allah) claiming that he has been offered so much for the thing and the former (believes him and) buys it."
Hadith 2673
حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " مَنْ حَلَفَ عَلَى يَمِينٍ لِيَقْتَطِعَ بِهَا مَالًا لَقِيَ اللَّهَ وَهُوَ عَلَيْهِ غَضْبَانُ " .
Narrated Ibn Mas`ud: The Prophet said, "Whoever takes a (false) oath in order to grab (others) property, then Allah will be angry with him when he will meet Him."
Hadith 2676
حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " مَنْ حَلَفَ عَلَى يَمِينٍ كَاذِبًا لِيَقْتَطِعَ مَالَ رَجُلٍ أَوْ قَالَ أَخِيهِ لَقِيَ اللَّهَ وَهُوَ عَلَيْهِ غَضْبَانُ " ، وَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ تَصْدِيقَ ذَلِكَ فِي الْقُرْآنِ إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَشْتَرُونَ بِعَهْدِ اللَّهِ وَأَيْمَانِهِمْ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلا سورة آل عمران آية 77 . فَلَقِيَنِي الْأَشْعَثُ ، فَقَالَ : مَا حَدَّثَكُمْ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ الْيَوْمَ قُلْتُ كَذَا وَكَذَا ، قَالَ : فِيَّ أُنْزِلَتْ .
Narrated Abu Wail from `Abdullah: The Prophet said, "Whoever takes a false oath in order to grab another man's (or his brother's) property, then Allah will be angry with him when he will meet him." Then Allah confirmed this by revealing the Divine Verse: "Verily! Those who purchase a little gain at the cost of Allah's Covenant and their oaths . . . Will get painful punishment." (3.77) Al-Ash'ath met me and asked, "What did `Abdullah tell you today?" I said, "So and so." He said, "The Verse was revealed regarding my case."
Hadith 2677

Hadith 2686
حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصِ بْنِ غِيَاثٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي الشَّعْبِيُّ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ النُّعْمَانَ بْنَ بَشِيرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا ، يَقُولُ : قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَثَلُ الْمُدْهِنِ فِي حُدُودِ اللَّهِ وَالْوَاقِعِ فِيهَا ، مَثَلُ قَوْمٍ اسْتَهَمُوا سَفِينَةً ، فَصَارَ بَعْضُهُمْ فِي أَسْفَلِهَا وَصَارَ بَعْضُهُمْ فِي أَعْلَاهَا ، فَكَانَ الَّذِي فِي أَسْفَلِهَا يَمُرُّونَ بِالْمَاءِ عَلَى الَّذِينَ فِي أَعْلَاهَا فَتَأَذَّوْا بِهِ ، فَأَخَذَ فَأْسًا ، فَجَعَلَ يَنْقُرُ أَسْفَلَ السَّفِينَةِ ، فَأَتَوْهُ ، فَقَالُوا : مَا لَكَ ؟ قَالَ : تَأَذَّيْتُمْ بِي ، وَلَا بُدَّ لِي مِنَ الْمَاءِ ، فَإِنْ أَخَذُوا عَلَى يَدَيْهِ أَنْجَوْهُ وَنَجَّوْا أَنْفُسَهُمْ ، وَإِنْ تَرَكُوهُ أَهْلَكُوهُ وَأَهْلَكُوا أَنْفُسَهُمْ " .
Narrated An-Nu`man bin Bashir: The Prophet said, "The example of the person abiding by Allah's orders and limits (or the one who abides by the limits and regulations prescribed by Allah) in comparison to the one who do wrong and violate Allah's limits and orders is like the example of people drawing lots for seats in a boat. Some of them got seats in the upper part while the others in the lower part ; those in the, lower part have to pass by those in the upper one to get water, and that troubled the latter. One of them (i.e. the people in the lower part) took an ax and started making a hole in the bottom of the boat. The people of the upper part came and asked him, (saying), 'What is wrong with you?' He replied, "You have been troubled much by my (coming up to you), and I have to get water.' Now if they prevent him from doing that they will save him and themselves, but if they leave him (to do what he wants), they will destroy him and themselves."

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا زَكَرِيَّاءُ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عَامِرًا ، يَقُولُ : حَدَّثَنِي جَابِرٌ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، " أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَسِيرُ عَلَى جَمَلٍ لَهُ قَدْ أَعْيَا ، فَمَرَّ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَضَرَبَهُ ، فَدَعَا لَهُ ، فَسَارَ بِسَيْرٍ لَيْسَ يَسِيرُ مِثْلَهُ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : بِعْنِيهِ بِوَقِيَّةٍ ؟ قُلْتُ : لَا ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : بِعْنِيهِ بِوَقِيَّةٍ ، فَبِعْتُهُ ، فَاسْتَثْنَيْتُ حُمْلَانَهُ إِلَى أَهْلِي ، فَلَمَّا قَدِمْنَا أَتَيْتُهُ بِالْجَمَلِ وَنَقَدَنِي ثَمَنَهُ ، ثُمَّ انْصَرَفْتُ ، فَأَرْسَلَ عَلَى إِثْرِي ، قَالَ : مَا كُنْتُ لِآخُذَ جَمَلَكَ ، فَخُذْ جَمَلَكَ ذَلِكَ فَهُوَ مَالُكَ " . قَالَ شُعْبَةُ : عَنْ مُغِيرَةَ ، عَنْ عَامِرٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، أَفْقَرَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ظَهْرَهُ إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ . وَقَالَ إِسْحَاقُ : عَنْ جَرِيرٍ ، عَنْ مُغِيرَةَ ، فَبِعْتُهُ عَلَى أَنَّ لِي فَقَارَ ظَهْرِهِ حَتَّى أَبْلُغَ الْمَدِينَةَ . وَقَالَ عَطَاءٌ ، وَغَيْرُهُ : لَكَ ظَهْرُهُ إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ . وَقَالَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُنْكَدِرِ : عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، شَرَطَ ظَهْرَهُ إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ . وَقَالَ زَيْدُ بْنُ أَسْلَمَ : عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، وَلَكَ ظَهْرُهُ حَتَّى تَرْجِعَ . وَقَالَ أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ : عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، أَفْقَرْنَاكَ ظَهْرَهُ إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ . وَقَالَ الْأَعْمَشُ : عَنْ سَالِمٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، تَبَلَّغْ عَلَيْهِ إِلَى أَهْلِكَ . وَقَالَ عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ ، وَابْنُ إِسْحَاقَ : عَنْ وَهْبٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، اشْتَرَاهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِوَقِيَّةٍ . وَتَابَعَهُ زَيْدُ بْنُ أَسْلَمَ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ . وَقَالَ ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ : عَنْ عَطَاءٍ وَغَيْرِهِ عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، أَخَذْتُهُ بِأَرْبَعَةِ دَنَانِيرَ ، وَهَذَا يَكُونُ وَقِيَّةً عَلَى حِسَابِ الدِّينَارِ بِعَشَرَةِ دَرَاهِمَ ، وَلَمْ يُبَيِّنْ الثَّمَنَ مُغِيرَةُ . عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، وَابْنُ الْمُنْكَدِرِ ، وَأَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ وَقَالَ الْأَعْمَشُ : عَنْ سَالِمٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، وَقِيَّةُ ذَهَبٍ . وَقَالَ أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ : عَنْ سَالِمٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ بِمِائَتَيْ دِرْهَمٍ . وَقَالَ دَاوُدُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ : عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مِقْسَمٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، اشْتَرَاهُ بِطَرِيقِ تَبُوكَ ، أَحْسِبُهُ قَالَ بِأَرْبَعِ أَوَاقٍ .وَقَالَ أَبُو نَضْرَةَ : عَنْ جَابِرٍ اشْتَرَاهُ بِعِشْرِينَ دِينَارًا . وَقَوْلُ الشَّعْبِيِّ : بِوَقِيَّةٍ أَكْثَرُ الِاشْتِرَاطُ أَكْثَرُ وَأَصَحُّ عِنْدِي . قَالَهُ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ " .
Narrated Jabir: While I was riding a (slow) and tired camel, the Prophet passed by and beat it and prayed for Allah's Blessings for it. The camel became so fast as it had never been before. The Prophet then said, "Sell it to me for one Uqiyya (of gold)." I said, "No." He again said, "Sell it to me for one Uqiyya (of gold)." I sold it and stipulated that I should ride it to my house. When we reached (Medina) I took that camel to the Prophet and he gave me its price. I returned home but he sent for me (and when I went to him) he said, "I will not take your camel. Take your camel as a gift for you." (Various narrations are mentioned here with slight variations in expressions relating the condition that Jabir had the right to ride the sold camel up to Medina).
Hadith 2916
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ الْأَسْوَدِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا ، قَالَتْ : " تُوُفِّيَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَدِرْعُهُ مَرْهُونَةٌ عِنْدَ يَهُودِيٍّ بِثَلَاثِينَ صَاعًا مِنْ شَعِيرٍ " ، وَقَالَ يَعْلَى ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ دِرْعٌ مِنْ حَدِيدٍ ، وَقَالَ مُعَلًّى حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، وَقَالَ : رَهَنَهُ دِرْعًا مِنْ حَدِيدٍ .
Narrated `Aisha: Allah's Apostle died while his (iron) armor was mortgaged to a Jew for thirty Sas of barley.
Hadith 2918
حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ أَبِي الضُّحَى مُسْلِمٍ هُوَ ابْنُ صُبَيْحٍ ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي الْمُغِيرَةُ بْنُ شُعْبَةَ ، قَالَ : انْطَلَقَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " لِحَاجَتِهِ ثُمَّ أَقْبَلَ فَلَقِيتُهُ بِمَاءٍ فَتَوَضَّأَ ، وَعَلَيْهِ جُبَّةٌ شَأْمِيَّةٌ فَمَضْمَضَ ، وَاسْتَنْشَقَ ، وَغَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ ، فَذَهَبَ يُخْرِجُ يَدَيْهِ مِنْ كُمَّيْهِ فَكَانَا ضَيِّقَيْنِ فَأَخْرَجَهُمَا مِنْ تَحْتُ فَغَسَلَهُمَا ، وَمَسَحَ بِرَأْسِهِ ، وَعَلَى خُفَّيْهِ " .
Narrated Al-Mughira bin Shu`ba: Allah's Apostle went out to answer the call of nature and on his return I brought some water to him. He performed the ablution while he was wearing a Sha'mi cloak. He rinsed his mouth and washed his nose by putting water in it and then blowing it out, and washed his face. Then he tried to take out his hands through his sleeves but they were tight, so he took them out from underneath, washed them and passed wet hands over his head and over his leather socks.
