Hadith 2059
حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ . ح وحَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِمِثْلِ حَدِيثِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ .
A hadith like this is reported on the authority of Jabir but with a different chain of transmitters.
Hadith 2059
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَي بْنُ يَحْيَي ، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، وَإِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ : وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ حَدَّثَنَا ، وقَالَ الْآخَرَانِ : أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " طَعَامُ الْوَاحِدِ يَكْفِي الِاثْنَيْنِ وَطَعَامُ الِاثْنَيْنِ يَكْفِي الْأَرْبَعَةَ " .
Jabir reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: Food for one suffices two and food for two suffices for four.
Hadith 2059
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، وَعُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " طَعَامُ الرَّجُلِ يَكْفِي رَجُلَيْنِ ، وَطَعَامُ رَجُلَيْنِ يَكْفِي أَرْبَعَةً ، وَطَعَامُ أَرْبَعَةٍ يَكْفِي ثَمَانِيَةً " .
Jabir reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: Food for one (person) suffices two, and food for two (persons) suffices four persons and food for four persons suffices eight persons.
Hadith 2061
حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، وَابْنِ عُمَرَ ، أن رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " الْمُؤْمِنُ يَأْكُلُ فِي مِعًى وَاحِدٍ وَالْكَافِرُ يَأْكُلُ فِي سَبْعَةِ أَمْعَاءٍ " .
Ibn 'Umar reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: A believer eats in one intestine, whereas a non-believer eats in seven intestines.
Hadith 2061
وحَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِمِثْلِهِ وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ ابْنَ عُمَرَ .
This hadith has been transmitted on the authority of Jabir.
Hadith 2070
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ ، وَإِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْحَنْظَلِيُّ ، ويحيى بن حبيب ، وحجاج بن الشاعر ، واللفظ لابن حبيب ، قَالَ إِسْحَاقُ : أَخْبَرَنَا ، وقَالَ الْآخَرُونَ : حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، يَقُولُ : لَبِسَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمًا قَبَاءً مِنْ دِيبَاجٍ أُهْدِيَ لَهُ ثُمَّ أَوْشَكَ أَنْ نَزَعَهُ ، فَأَرْسَلَ بِهِ إِلَى عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ فَقِيلَ لَهُ : قَدْ أَوْشَكَ مَا نَزَعْتَهُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، فَقَالَ : " نَهَانِي عَنْهُ جِبْرِيلُ " ، فَجَاءَهُ عُمَرُ يَبْكِي ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ كَرِهْتَ أَمْرًا وَأَعْطَيْتَنِيهِ فَمَا لِي ، قَالَ : " إِنِّي لَمْ أُعْطِكَهُ لِتَلْبَسَهُ إِنَّمَا أَعْطَيْتُكَهُ تَبِيعُهُ " ، فَبَاعَهُ بِأَلْفَيْ دِرْهَمٍ .
Jabir bin'Abdullah (RA) reported that one day Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) put on a cloak made of brocade, which had been presented to him. He then quickly put it off and sent it to 'Umar bin Khattab, and it was said to him: Messenger of Allah. why is it that you put it of immediately. whereupon he said: Gabriel (ؑ) forbade me from it (i. e. wearing of Ods garment), and 'Umar came to him weeping and said: Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) you disapproved a thing but you gave it to me. What about me, then? Thereupon be (the Holy Prophet) Wd: I did not give it to you to wear it, but I gave you that you might sell it; and so he (Hadrat Umar) sold it for two thousand dirhams.
Hadith 2083
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، وَعَمْرٌو النَّاقِدُ ، وإسحاق بن إبراهيم ، واللفظ لعمرو وَقَالَ عَمْرٌو وَقُتَيْبَةُ : حَدَّثَنَا ، وَقَالَ إِسْحَاقُ : أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ ابْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، قال : قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَمَّا تَزَوَّجْتُ اتَّخَذْتَ أَنْمَاطًا ؟ " ، قُلْتُ : وَأَنَّى لَنَا أَنْمَاطٌ ، قَالَ : " أَمَا إِنَّهَا سَتَكُونُ " .
Jabir reported: When I was married, Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) asked me if I had got the carpet. I said: How can we have carpets? (i. e. I am so poor that I cannot even think of carpets). whereupon he said: You shall soon possess them.
Hadith 2083
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قال : لَمَّا تَزَوَّجْتُ قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " اتَّخَذْتَ أَنْمَاطًا ؟ " ، قُلْتُ : وَأَنَّى لَنَا أَنْمَاطٌ ، قَالَ : " أَمَا إِنَّهَا سَتَكُونُ " ، قَالَ جَابِرٌ : وَعِنْدَ امْرَأَتِي نَمَطٌ ، فَأَنَا أَقُولُ نَحِّيهِ عَنِّي ، وَتَقُولُ قَدْ ، قَالَ : رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّهَا سَتَكُونُ .
Jabir bin'Abdullah (RA) reported: When I was married. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) asked me if I had got carpets. I said: How can we have carpets? Thereupon he Wd: You will soon have. Jabir said: My wife had possessed a carpet. and I said to her to remove that away from me, but she would say! Allah's Messenger (may peace be npon him) had said: Yon will soon have.
Hadith 2084
حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الطَّاهِرِ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ سَرْحٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو هَانِئٍ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، يَقُولُ : عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " لَهُ فِرَاشٌ لِلرَّجُلِ ، وَفِرَاشٌ لِامْرَأَتِهِ ، وَالثَّالِثُ لِلضَّيْفِ ، وَالرَّابِعُ لِلشَّيْطَانِ " .
Jabir bin 'Abdullah reported that Allah's Messengor (ﷺ) said: There should be a bedding for a man. a bedding for his wife and the third one for the guest, and the fourth one is for the Satan.
Hadith 2096
حَدَّثَنِي سَلَمَةُ بْنُ شَبِيبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ أَعْيَنَ ، حَدَّثَنَا مَعْقِلٌ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، قال : سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ فِي غَزْوَةٍ غَزَوْنَاهَا : " اسْتَكْثِرُوا مِنَ النِّعَالِ ، فَإِنَّ الرَّجُلَ لَا يَزَالُ رَاكِبًا مَا انْتَعَلَ " .
Jabir reported: I heard Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) saying during an expedition in which we also participated: Make a general practice of wearing sandals, for a man is riding as it were when he wears sandals.
Hadith 2099
وحَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ فِيمَا قُرِئَ عَلَيْهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ : أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " نَهَى أَنْ يَأْكُلَ الرَّجُلُ بِشِمَالِهِ أَوْ يَمْشِيَ فِي نَعْلٍ وَاحِدَةٍ ، وَأَنْ يَشْتَمِلَ الصَّمَّاءَ ، وَأَنْ يَحْتَبِيَ فِي ثَوْبٍ وَاحِدٍ كَاشِفًا عَنْ فَرْجِهِ " .
Jabir reported that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) forbade that a man should eat with the left hand or walk with one sandal or wrap himself completely leaving no opening for the arms (to draw out) or support himself when sitting with a single garment wrapped round his knees which may expose his private parts.
Hadith 2099
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُونُسَ ، حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ . ح وحدثنا يَحْيَي بْنُ يَحْيَي ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، قال : قال رسول اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَوْ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " إِذَا انْقَطَعَ شِسْعُ أَحَدِكُمْ أَوْ مَنِ انْقَطَعَ شِسْعُ نَعْلِهِ ، فَلَا يَمْشِ فِي نَعْلٍ وَاحِدَةٍ حَتَّى يُصْلِحَ شِسْعَهُ ، وَلَا يَمْشِ فِي خُفٍّ وَاحِدٍ ، وَلَا يَأْكُلْ بِشِمَالِهِ ، وَلَا يَحْتَبِي بِالثَّوْبِ الْوَاحِدِ ، وَلَا يَلْتَحِفْ الصَّمَّاءَ " .
Jabir reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: When the thong of the shoe of any one of you is cut off. he should not walk with one sandal until he has got the thong repaired, and he should not walk with one shoe and he should not eat with his left hand and should not wrap his cloth round his knees or wrap himself completely leaving no room for the arms.
Hadith 2099
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ ، حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ رُمْحٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا اللَّيْثُ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ : أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " نَهَى عَنِ اشْتِمَالِ الصَّمَّاءِ ، وَالِاحْتِبَاءِ فِي ثَوْبٍ وَاحِدٍ ، وَأَنْ يَرْفَعَ الرَّجُلُ إِحْدَى رِجْلَيْهِ عَلَى الْأُخْرَى ، وَهُوَ مُسْتَلْقٍ عَلَى ظَهْرِهِ " .
Jabir reported that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) forbade the wrapping of oneself completely leaving no room for the arm and supporting oneself when sitting with a single garment wrapped round one's knees and a person raising one of his feet and placing it on the other while lying on his back.
Hadith 2099
وحَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ ، قَالَ إِسْحَاقُ : أَخْبَرَنَا ، وَقَالَ ابْنُ حَاتِمٍ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَكْرٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ يُحَدِّثُ ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " لَا تَمْشِ فِي نَعْلٍ وَاحِدٍ ، وَلَا تَحْتَبِ فِي إِزَارٍ وَاحِدٍ ، وَلَا تَأْكُلْ بِشِمَالِكَ ، وَلَا تَشْتَمِلِ الصَّمَّاءَ ، وَلَا تَضَعْ إِحْدَى رِجْلَيْكَ عَلَى الْأُخْرَى إِذَا اسْتَلْقَيْتَ " .
Jabir. bin'Abdullah reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: Do not walk in one sandal and do not wrap the lower garment round your knees and do not eat with your left hand and do not wrap yourself completely leaving no room for the arms (to draw out) and do not place one of your feet upon the other while lying on your back.
Hadith 2099
وحَدَّثَنِي إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ ، حَدَّثَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ أَبِي الْأَخْنَسِ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " لَا يَسْتَلْقِيَنَّ أَحَدُكُمْ ثُمَّ يَضَعُ إِحْدَى رِجْلَيْهِ عَلَى الْأُخْرَى " .
Jabir bin'Abdullah (RA) reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: None of you should lie on his back and place one of his feet upon the other.
Hadith 2102
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَي بْنُ يَحْيَي ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، قال : " أُتِيَ بِأَبِي قُحَافَةَ أَوْ جَاءَ عَامَ الْفَتْحِ أَوْ يَوْمَ الْفَتْحِ وَرَأْسُهُ وَلِحْيَتُهُ مِثْلُ الثَّغَامِ أَوِ الثَّغَامَةِ ، فَأَمَرَ أَوْ فَأُمِرَ بِهِ إِلَى نِسَائِهِ ، قَالَ : غَيِّرُوا هَذَا بِشَيْءٍ " .
Jabir reported that when Abu Quhafa (father of Abu Bakr) came in the year of Victory or on the Day of Victory (to the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) to pledge his allegiance to him) his head and his beard were white like hyssop. He (the Holy Prophet) commaded or the women were commanded by him that they should change this with something (that the colour of his hair should be changed).
Hadith 2102
وحَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الطَّاهِرِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قال : " أُتِيَ بِأَبِي قُحَافَةَ يَوْمَ فَتْحِ مَكَّةَ وَرَأْسُهُ وَلِحْيَتُهُ كَالثَّغَامَةِ بَيَاضًا ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " غَيِّرُوا هَذَا بِشَيْءٍ وَاجْتَنِبُوا السَّوَادَ " .
Jabir bin 'Abdullah reported that Abu Quhafa was led (to the andience of the Holy Prophet) on the day of the Conquest of Makkah and his head and beard were white like hyssop, whereupon Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: Change it with something but avoid black.
Hadith 2116
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُسْهِرٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، قال : " نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنِ الضَّرْبِ فِي الْوَجْهِ ، وَعَنِ الْوَسْمِ فِي الْوَجْهِ " .
Jabir reported that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) forbade (the animals to be beaten) on the face or cauterisation on the face.
Hadith 2116
وحدثني هَارُونُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَكْرٍ كِلَاهُمَا ، عَنْ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، قال : أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، يَقُولُ : نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِمِثْلِهِ .
This hadith has been reported on the authority of Jabir bin 'Abdullah through another chain of transmitters.
Hadith 2117
وحَدَّثَنِي سَلَمَةُ بْنُ شَبِيبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ أَعْيَنَ ، حَدَّثَنَا مَعْقِلٌ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَرَّ عَلَيْهِ حِمَارٌ قَدْ وُسِمَ فِي وَجْهِهِ ، فَقَالَ : " لَعَنَ اللَّهُ الَّذِي وَسَمَهُ " .
Jabir reported that there happened to pass before Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) an ass the face of which had been cauterised, whereupon he said: Allah has cursed one who has cauterised it (on the face).
Hadith 2126
وحَدَّثَنِي الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْحُلْوَانِيُّ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رَافِعٍ ، قالا : أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، يَقُولُ : " زَجَرَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ تَصِلَ الْمَرْأَةُ بِرَأْسِهَا شَيْئًا " .
Jabir bin'Abdullah (RA) reported that Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) reprimanded that a woman should add anything to her head (in the form of artificial hair).
Hadith 2133
حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَإِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، قَالَ عُثْمَانُ : حَدَّثَنَا ، وقَالَ إِسْحَاقُ : أَخْبَرَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قال : وُلِدَ لِرَجُلٍ مِنَّا غُلَامٌ ، فَسَمَّاهُ مُحَمَّدًا ، فَقَالَ لَهُ قَوْمُهُ : لَا نَدَعُكَ تُسَمِّي بِاسْمِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَانْطَلَقَ بِابْنِهِ حَامِلَهُ عَلَى ظَهْرِهِ ، فَأَتَى بِهِ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، وُلِدَ لِي غُلَامٌ فَسَمَّيْتُهُ مُحَمَّدًا ، فَقَالَ لِي قَوْمِي : لَا نَدَعُكَ تُسَمِّي بِاسْمِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " تَسَمَّوْا بِاسْمِي وَلَا تَكْتَنُوا بِكُنْيَتِي ، فَإِنَّمَا أَنَا قَاسِمٌ أَقْسِمُ بَيْنَكُمْ " .
Jabir bin 'Abdullah reported that a child was born to a person amongst us and he gave him the name of Muhammad. Thereupon his people said: We will not allow you to give the name of Muhammad (to your child) after the name of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) . He set forth with his son carrying him on his back and came to Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) , and said: Allah's Messenger a son has been born to me and I have given him the name after the name of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) , whereupon Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: Give him my name but do not give him my kunya, for I am Qasim in the sense that I distribute (the spoils of war) and the dues of Zakat amongst you.
Hadith 2133
حَدَّثَنَا هَنَّادُ بْنُ السَّرِيِّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْثَرٌ ، عَنْ حُصَيْنٍ ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قال : وُلِدَ لِرَجُلٍ مِنَّا غُلَامٌ فَسَمَّاهُ مُحَمَّدًا ، فَقُلْنَا : لَا نَكْنِكَ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى تَسْتَأْمِرَهُ ، قَالَ : فَأَتَاهُ ، فَقَالَ : إِنَّهُ وُلِدَ لِي غُلَامٌ فَسَمَّيْتُهُ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ وَإِنَّ قَوْمِي أَبَوْا أَنْ يَكْنُونِي بِهِ حَتَّى تَسْتَأْذِنَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : " سَمُّوا بِاسْمِي وَلَا تَكَنَّوْا بِكُنْيَتِي ، فَإِنَّمَا بُعِثْتُ قَاسِمًا أَقْسِمُ بَيْنَكُمْ " .
Jabir bin 'Abdullah reported that a child was born to one of the persons amongst us and he decided to give him the name of Muhammad We said: We will not allow you to give the name after the name of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) until you ask him (the Holy Prophet). So he (that person) came and said (to the Holy Prophet): A child was born in my house and I wanted to give him the name (of Muhammad) after the name of Allah's Messenger, whereas my people did not allow me that I should name him after that (sacred) name until I have asked Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) in this connection, whereupon he said: Give him the name after my name, but do not call him by my kunya, for I have been sent as a Qasim as I distribute amongst you.
Hadith 2133
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ . ح وحَدَّثَنِي أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الْأَشَجُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قال : قال رسول اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " تَسَمَّوْا بِاسْمِي وَلَا تَكَنَّوْا بِكُنْيَتِي ، فَإِنِّي أَنَا أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ أَقْسِمُ بَيْنَكُمْ " ، وَفِي رِوَايَةِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ وَلَا تَكْتَنُوا .
Jabir bin'Abdullah (RA) reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: Give the name after my name, but do not give the kunya of Abu'l-Qasim (after my kunya), for I am Abu'l-Qasim (in the sense) that I distribute amongst you (the spoils of war) and disseminate the knowledge (of revelation). This hadith has been transmitted on the authority of Abu Bakr (RA) but with a slight variation of wording.
Hadith 2133
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ ، قالا : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، سَمِعْتُ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، أَنَّ رَجُلًا مِنْ الْأَنْصَارِ وُلِدَ لَهُ غُلَامٌ ، فَأَرَادَ أَنْ يُسَمِّيَهُ مُحَمَّدًا فَأَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَسَأَلَهُ ، فَقَالَ : " أَحْسَنَتْ الْأَنْصَارُ سَمُّوا بِاسْمِي وَلَا تَكْتَنُوا بِكُنْيَتِي " .
Jabir bin 'Abdullah reported that a child was born to a person from the Ansar and he made up his mind to give him the name of Muhammad. He came to Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) and, asked him (about it), whereupon he said: The Ansar have done well to give the name (to your children) after my name, but do nct give them the kunya after my kunya.
Hadith 2133
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى كِلَاهُمَا ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ . ح وحَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ جَبَلَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ جَعْفَرٍ . ح وحدثنا ابْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ كِلَاهُمَا ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، عَنْ حُصَيْنٍ . ح وحَدَّثَنِي بِشْرُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ كُلُّهُمْ ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْحَنْظَلِيُّ ، وَإِسْحاَقُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، قَالَا : أَخْبَرَنَا النَّضْرُ بْنُ شُمَيْلٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، وَمَنْصُورٍ ، وَسُلَيْمَانَ ، وَحُصَيْنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، قَالُوا : سَمِعْنَا سَالِمَ بْنَ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عن النبي صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِنَحْوِ حَدِيثِ مَنْ ذَكَرْنَا حَدِيثَهُمْ مِنْ قَبْلُ ، وَفِي حَدِيثِ النَّضْرِ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، قَالَ : وَزَادَ فِيهِ حُصَيْنٌ وَسُلَيْمَانُ ، قَالَ حُصَيْنٌ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّمَا بُعِثْتُ قَاسِمًا أَقْسِمُ بَيْنَكُمْ " ، وقَالَ سُلَيْمَانُ : فَإِنَّمَا أَنَا قَاسِمٌ أَقْسِمُ بَيْنَكُمْ .
This hadith has been narrated through different chains of transmitters on the authority of Shu'bah with a slight variation of wording.
Hadith 2133
حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرٌو النَّاقِدُ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ جَمِيعًا ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، قَال عَمْرٌو : حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ الْمُنْكَدِرِ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، يَقُولُ : وُلِدَ لِرَجُلٍ مِنَّا غُلَامٌ ، فَسَمَّاهُ الْقَاسِمَ ، فَقُلْنَا : لَا نَكْنِيكَ أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ وَلَا نُنْعِمُكَ عَيْنًا ، فَأَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَذَكَرَ ذَلِكَ لَهُ ، فَقَالَ : " أَسْمِ ابْنَكَ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ " .
Jabir bin 'Abdullah reported: A child was born in the house of a person amongst us, and he gave him the name of Qasim. We said: We will not allow you (to give the name) to your child as Qasim (and thus adopt the kunya of Abu'l-Qasim) and cool your eyes. He (that person) came to Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) and made a mention of that to him, whereupon he said: Call your son 'Abdul Rahman.
Hadith 2133
وحدثني أُمَيَّةُ بْنُ بِسْطَامَ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ زُرَيْعٍ . ح وحدثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عُلَيَّةَ كِلَاهُمَا ، عَنْ رَوْحِ بْنِ الْقَاسِمِ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، بِمِثْلِ حَدِيثِ ابْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ لَمْ يَذْكُرْ وَلَا نُنْعِمُكَ عَيْنًا .
This hadith has been reported on the authority of Ibn Uyaina, but there is no mention of this: "We will not allow you to cool your eyes."
Hadith 2138
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي خَلَفٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، يَقُولُ : " أَرَادَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يَنْهَى عَنْ أَنْ يُسَمَّى بِيَعْلَى وَبِبَرَكَةَ وَبِأَفْلَحَ وَبِيَسَارٍ وَبِنَافِعٍ وَبِنَحْوِ ذَلِكَ ثُمَّ رَأَيْتُهُ سَكَتَ بَعْدُ عَنْهَا ، فَلَمْ يَقُلْ شَيْئًا ثُمَّ قُبِضَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَلَمْ يَنْهَ عَنْ ذَلِكَ ثُمَّ أَرَادَ عُمَرُ أَنْ يَنْهَى عَنْ ذَلِكَ ثُمَّ تَرَكَهُ " .
Jabir bin 'Abdullah reported: Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) decided to forbid (his followers) to name persons as Ya'la (Elevated), Baraka (Blessing), Aflah (Successful), Yasar and Nafi', but I saw that he kept silent after that and he did not say anything until Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) died. And he did not forbid (his followers to do this), then 'Umar decided to prohibit (people) from giving these names, but later on gave up the idea.
Hadith 2155
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قال : " أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَدَعَوْتُ ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَنْ هَذَا ؟ " ، قُلْتُ : أَنَا ، قَالَ : فَخَرَجَ ، وَهُوَ يَقُولُ : أَنَا أَنَا " .
Jabir bin'Abdullah (RA) reported: I came to Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) and called him (with a view to seeking permission), whereupon Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) said: Who is it? I said: It is I. Thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) came out saying: It is I. it is I.
Hadith 2155
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَي بْنُ يَحْيَي ، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَاللَّفْظُ لِأَبِي بَكْرٍ ، قَالَ يَحْيَي : أَخْبَرَنَا ، وقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ : حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قال : اسْتَأْذَنْتُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : " مَنْ هَذَا ؟ " ، فَقُلْتُ : أَنَا ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَنَا أَنَا " .
Jabir bin'Abdullah (RA) reported: I sought permission from Allah's Messenger (may peace be upoh him) to see him. He said: Who is it? I said: It is I. Thereupon Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: It is I. it is I (these words lead me to no conclusion).
Hadith 2166
حَدَّثَنِي هَارُونُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، وَحَجَّاجُ بْنُ الشَّاعِرِ ، قالا : حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، قال : قَالَ ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ : أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، يَقُولُ : سَلَّمَ نَاسٌ مِنْ يَهُودَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالُوا : السَّامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ ، فَقَالَ : " وَعَلَيْكُمْ " ، فَقَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ : وَغَضِبَتْ أَلَمْ تَسْمَعْ مَا قَالُوا ؟ قَالَ : " بَلَى قَدْ سَمِعْتُ فَرَدَدْتُ عَلَيْهِمْ ، وَإِنَّا نُجَابُ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا يُجَابُونَ عَلَيْنَا " .
Jabir bin'Abdullah (RA) reported that some people from amongst the Jews said to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) Abu'l-Qasim as-Sam-u-'Alaikum, whereupon he said: Wa 'Alaikum. A'isha was enraged and asked him (Allah's Apostle) (ﷺ) whether he had not heard what they had said. He said, I did hear and I retorted to them (and the curse that I invoked upon them would receive response from Allah), but (the curse that they invoked upon us) would not be responded.
Hadith 2171
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَي بْنُ يَحْيَي ، وَعَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ ، قَالَ يَحْيَي : أَخْبَرَنَا ، وقَالَ ابْنُ حُجْرٍ : حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ . ح وحدثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ ، وَزُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، قالا : حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، قال : قال رسول اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَلَا لَا يَبِيتَنَّ رَجُلٌ عِنْدَ امْرَأَةٍ ثَيِّبٍ إِلَّا أَنْ يَكُونَ نَاكِحًا أَوْ ذَا مَحْرَمٍ " .
Yahya ibn Yahya and Ali ibn Hujr narrated to us. Yahya said: He informed us, and Ibn Hujr said: Hushaym narrated to us, from Abu al-Zubayr, from Jabir.
And Muhammad ibn al-Sabbah and Zuhayr ibn Harb narrated to us, they said: Hushaym narrated to us, Abu al-Zubayr informed us, from Jabir, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Let no man spend the night with a woman who has been previously married except if he is married to her or is a mahram to her."
And Muhammad ibn al-Sabbah and Zuhayr ibn Harb narrated to us, they said: Hushaym narrated to us, Abu al-Zubayr informed us, from Jabir, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Let no man spend the night with a woman who has been previously married except if he is married to her or is a mahram to her."
Hadith 2178
وحَدَّثَنَا سَلَمَةُ بْنُ شَبِيبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ أَعْيَنَ ، حَدَّثَنَا مَعْقِلٌ وَهُوَ ابْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، عن النبي ، قَالَ : " لَا يُقِيمَنَّ أَحَدُكُمْ أَخَاهُ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ ، ثُمَّ لَيُخَالِفْ إِلَى مَقْعَدِهِ فَيَقْعُدَ فِيهِ ، وَلَكِنْ يَقُولُ افْسَحُوا " .
Jabir reported Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) (may peace he upon him) as saying: None amongst you should make his brother stand on Friday (during the congregational prayer) and then occupy his place, but he should only say to him (Accommodate me).
Hadith 2198
حَدَّثَنِي عُقْبَةُ بْنُ مُكْرَمٍ الْعَمِّيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، قال : وَأَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، يَقُولُ : " رَخَّصَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِآلِ حَزْمٍ فِي رُقْيَةِ الْحَيَّةِ ، وَقَالَ لِأَسْمَاءَ بِنْتِ عُمَيْسٍ : " مَا لِي أَرَى أَجْسَامَ بَنِي أَخِي ضَارِعَةً تُصِيبُهُمُ الْحَاجَةُ ؟ ، قَالَتْ : لَا ، وَلَكِنْ الْعَيْنُ تُسْرِعُ إِلَيْهِمْ ، قَالَ : " ارْقِيهِمْ " ، قَالَتْ : فَعَرَضْتُ عَلَيْهِ ، فَقَالَ : " ارْقِيهِمْ " .
Jabir bin 'Abdullah reported that Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) granted sanction to the family of Hazm for incantation in mitigating the effect of the poison of the snake, and, he said to Asma' daughter of 'Umais: What is this that I see the children of my brother lean? Are they not fed properly? She said: No, but they fall under the influence of an evil eve. He said: Use incantation. She recited (the words of incantation before him), whereupon he (by approving them) said: Yes, use this incantation for them.
Hadith 2199
وحَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، يَقُولُ : أَرْخَصَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي رُقْيَةِ الْحَيَّةِ لِبَنِي عَمْرٍو ، قَالَ أَبُو الزُّبَيْر : وَسَمِعْتُ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، يَقُولُ : لَدَغَتْ رَجُلًا مِنَّا عَقْرَبٌ وَنَحْنُ جُلُوسٌ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَرْقِي ، قَالَ : " مَنِ اسْتَطَاعَ مِنْكُمْ أَنْ يَنْفَعَ أَخَاهُ فَلْيَفْعَلْ " .
Jabir bin 'Abdullah reported that Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) granted a special sanction for incantation in case of the snake poison to a tribe of 'Amr. Abu Zubair said: I heard Jabir bin 'Abdullah as saying that the scorpion stung one of us as we were sitting with Allah's Messenger (may peace upon him). A person said: Allah's Messenger, I use incantation (for curing the effect of sting), whereupon he said: He who is competent amongst you to benefit his brother should do so.
Hadith 2199
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَأَبُو سَعِيدٍ الْأَشَجُّ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، قال : كَانَ لِي خَالٌ يَرْقِي مِنَ الْعَقْرَبِ ، فَنَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنِ الرُّقَى ، قَالَ : فَأَتَاهُ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّكَ نَهَيْتَ عَنِ الرُّقَى ، وَأَنَا أَرْقِي مِنَ الْعَقْرَبِ ، فَقَالَ : " مَنِ اسْتَطَاعَ مِنْكُمْ أَنْ يَنْفَعَ أَخَاهُ فَلْيَفْعَلْ " .
Jabir bin 'Abdullah reported I had a maternal uncle who treated the sting of the scorpion with the help of incantation. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) forbade incantation. He came to him and said: Allah's Messenger, you forbade to practise incantation, whereas I employ it for curing the sting of the scorpion, whereupon he said: He who amongst you is capable of employing it as a means to do good should do that.
Hadith 2199
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، قَالَ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنِ الرُّقَى ، فَجَاءَ آلُ عَمْرِو بْنِ حَزْمٍ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالُوا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّهُ كَانَتْ عِنْدَنَا رُقْيَةٌ نَرْقِي بِهَا مِنَ الْعَقْرَبِ ، وَإِنَّكَ نَهَيْتَ عَنِ الرُّقَى ، قَالَ : فَعَرَضُوهَا عَلَيْهِ ، فَقَالَ : " مَا أَرَى بَأْسًا مَنِ اسْتَطَاعَ مِنْكُمْ أَنْ يَنْفَعَ أَخَاهُ فَلْيَنْفَعْهُ " .
Jabir reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) prohibited incantation. Then the people of Amr bin Hazm came to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and said: We know an incantation which we use for curing the sting of the scorpion but you have prohibited it. They recited (the words of incantation) before him, whereupon he said: I do not see any harm (in it), so he who amongst you is competent to do good to his brother should do that.
Hadith 2204
حَدَّثَنَا هَارُونُ بْنُ مَعْرُوفٍ ، وَأَبُو الطَّاهِرِ ، وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ عِيسَى ، قَالُوا : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرٌو وَهُوَ ابْنُ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ رَبِّهِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، عن رسول الله صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَنَّهُ قَال : " لِكُلِّ دَاءٍ دَوَاءٌ فَإِذَا أُصِيبَ دَوَاءُ الدَّاءِ بَرَأَ بِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ " .
Jabir reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: There is a remedy for every malady, and when the remedy is applied to the disease it is cured with the permission of Allah, the Exalted and Glorious.
Hadith 2205
حَدَّثَنَا هَارُونُ بْنُ مَعْرُوفٍ ، وَأَبُو الطَّاهِرِ ، قالا : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرٌو ، أَنَّ بُكَيْرًا حَدَّثَهُ ، أَنَّ عَاصِمَ بْنَ عُمَرَ بْنِ قَتَادَةَ حَدَّثَهُ ، أَنَّ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَادَ الْمُقَنَّعَ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : لَا أَبْرَحُ حَتَّى تَحْتَجِمَ فَإِنِّي سمعت رسول اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " إِنَّ فِيهِ شِفَاءً " .
Jabir reported that he visited Muqanna' and then said: I will not go away unless you get yourself cupped, for I heard Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) say: It is a remedy.
