Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 6695M3

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ziyad bin Labid al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was talking with his Companions and was saying: "The time (of the departure) of knowledge has come." I said: May my father and mother be sacrificed for you! How will knowledge depart when we recite the Qur'an, teach it to our sons, and our sons will go on teaching it to their sons until the Day of Resurrection?! He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Ibn Labid! May your mother lose you! I used to think you were the most understanding of the people of Madinah. Do the Jews and Christians not read the Tawrah and the Injil, yet they derive not the slightest benefit from them?"
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.
(After this) is the mention of Sayyiduna Sa'd bin al-Rabi' al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him).
