Book of Knowing the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them)
كَانَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ يُسَمَّى الْبَحْرَ لِكَثْرَةِ عِلْمِهِ .
Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) was called "the Sea" because of the abundance of his knowledge

وقال محمد بن عليٍّ يومَ مات ابنُ عبّاس: اليوم مات ربّانيُّ هذه الأمّة (3).
Muhammad bin Ali (Ibn al-Hanafiyyah) said on the day Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) died: "Today the Rabbani of this Ummah (that is, the scholar firmly grounded in his knowledge and devoted to Allah) has passed away."
