قال العَطَّاف: وحدثتني خالتي أنها زارت قبور الشُّهداء، قالت: وليس معى إلَّا غُلامانِ يَحفَظان على الدابةَ، فسلَّمتُ عليهم، فسمعت ردَّ السلام، قالوا: والله إنا نَعرِفُكم كما يعرف بعضنا بعضًا، قالت: فاقشعررتُ، فقلتُ: يا غُلام، أَدْنِ بَغْلَتي، فركبتُ (1). هذا إسناد مديني صحيح، ولم يخرجاه.
Al-Attaf narrates that my maternal aunt told me that she visited the graves of the martyrs. She said: There was no one with me except two boys who were looking after the mount. I greeted the martyrs with salam, and I heard the reply to my greeting. They said: By Allah! We recognize you just as we recognize one another. She said: (On hearing this) a shudder came over me, and I said: O boy! Bring my mule near. Then I mounted and returned.
This chain is authentic (sahih) with respect to its Madinan narrators, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

(1) إسناده إسناد سابقه إلى العطّاف، وهو إسناد ضعيف لجهالة خالة العطاف بن خالد، وقد وقع مصرحًا باسمها عند الطبري في "تهذيب الآثار" أنها تَهْلَل بنت العطّاف، ولا تُعرف في غير هذا الخبر.
Grading: (1) Its chain is the chain of the preceding hadith up to al-'Attaf, and it is a da'if chain because the maternal aunt of al-'Attaf bin Khalid is majhul (unknown). Her name is given explicitly in al-Tabari's "Tahdhib al-Athar" as "Tahlal bint al-'Attaf", and she is not known outside this report.
وأخرجه البيهقي في "دلائل النبوة" 3/ 307 عن أبي عبد الله الحاكم، به.
Documentation: Al-Bayhaqi narrated it in "Dala'il al-Nubuwwah" (3/ 307) from Abu 'Abd Allah al-Hakim (with this chain).
وأخرجه بنحوه مع زيادة فيه: ابن أبي الدنيا في "من عاش بعد الموت" (41)، ومن طريقه أخرجه البيهقي في "الدلائل" 3/ 307 - 308 عن إبراهيم بن سعيد، عن الحكم بن نافع، والطبري في مسند عمر بن الخطاب من "تهذيب الآثار" 2/ 513 عن يونس بن عبد الأعلى، عن عبد الله بن وهب، كلاهما (الحكم بن نافع وعبد الله بن وهب) عن العطَّاف، عن خالته.
Documentation: Ibn Abi al-Dunya narrated something similar, with an addition, in "Man 'Asha ba'd al-Mawt" (41), and by way of him al-Bayhaqi recorded it in "al-Dala'il" (3/ 307-308), from Ibrahim bin Sa'id, from al-Hakam bin Nafi'; and al-Tabari in the Musnad of 'Umar bin al-Khattab in "Tahdhib al-Athar" (2/ 513) from Yunus bin 'Abd al-A'la, from 'Abd Allah bin Wahb. Both of them (al-Hakam bin Nafi' and 'Abd Allah bin Wahb) narrate it from al-'Attaf, from his maternal aunt.
