Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Abdush Shakoor Tirmidhi
Benefits: ➊ From the mentioned hadith, it is understood that merely putting water into the nose is not sufficient; rather, it is also necessary to blow the nose and clean it thoroughly. ➋ ... Performing istinja (cleansing oneself after relieving oneself) is a Sunnah act. ➌ ... Performing istinja with lumps of earth or similar materials is also permissible. ➍ ... For istinja, lumps of earth should be used in odd numbers. ➎ ... The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) commanded performing istinja with three lumps of earth. (See: Sunan Abu Dawud, Hadith no. 6) ➏ ... If there is a need to use more than three lumps, then one should still observe the odd number, as is clear from the mentioned hadith.
