1 إِذَا تَقَارَبَ الزَّمَانُ انْتَقَى الْمَوْتُ خِيَارَ أُمَّتِي

When the time draws near, death will select the best of my nation

2 hadith (1404 — 1405)

2 إِذَا اشْتَكَى الْمُؤْمِنُ أَخْلَصَهُ ذَلِكَ مِنَ الذُّنُوبِ

When the believer falls ill, it purifies him from sins

2 hadith (1406 — 1407)

3 إِذَا أَرَادَ اللَّهُ إِنْفَاذَ قَضَائِهِ وَقَدَرِهِ سَلَبَ ذَوِي الْعُقُولِ عُقُولَهُمْ

If Allah wants to carry out His decree, He takes away the minds of the wise

4 كَفَى بِالسَّلَامَةِ دَاءً

Safety is enough as a blessing

5 كَفَى بِالْمَوْتِ وَاعِظًا

Death is enough as a preacher

6 كَفَى بِالْمَرْءِ إِثْمًا أَنْ يُضَيِّعَ مَنْ يَقُوتُ

It is enough of a sin for a man to neglect those he supports

3 hadith (1411 — 1413)

7 كَفَى بِالْمَرْءِ إِثْمًا أَنْ يَقُولَ فِي أَخِيهِ مَا هُوَ فِيهِ

It is enough of a sin for a man to say about his brother what is in him

8 كَفَى بِالْمَرْءِ إِثْمًا أَنْ يُحَدِّثَ بِكُلِّ مَا سَمِعَ

It is enough of a sin for a man to relate everything he hears

9 كَفَى بِالْمَرْءِ سَعَادَةً أَنْ يُوثَقَ بِهِ فِي أَمْرِ دِينِهِ وَدُنْيَاهُ

It is enough happiness for a man to be trusted in his religious and worldly affairs

10 رُبَّ مُبَلَّغٍ أَوْعَى مِنْ سَامِعٍ

Perhaps the one who receives the message understands it better than the one who hears it

11 رُبَّ حَامِلِ فِقْهٍ إِلَى مَنْ هُوَ أَفْقَهُ مِنْهُ

Perhaps a carrier of jurisprudence conveys it to one more understanding than himself

12 رُبَّ حَامِلِ حِكْمَةٍ إِلَى مَنْ هُوَ لَهَا أَوْعَى مِنْهُ

Perhaps a carrier of wisdom conveys it to one more receptive than himself

13 أَلَا رُبَّ نَفْسٍ طَاعِمَةٍ نَاعِمَةٍ فِي الدُّنْيَا جَائِعَةٍ عَارِيَةٍ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ

Perhaps a soul who eats and enjoys in this world will be hungry and naked on the Day of Resurrection

14 رُبَّ قَائِمٍ لَيْسَ لَهُ مِنْ قِيَامِهِ إِلَّا السَّهَرُ

Perhaps someone who stands (in prayer) gains nothing from his standing except sleeplessness

3 hadith (1424 — 1426)

15 وَرُبَّ طَاعِمٍ شَاكِرٍ أَعْظَمُ أَجْرًا مِنْ صَائِمٍ صَابِرٍ

Perhaps a grateful eater has a greater reward than a patient fasting person

16 لَوْلَا أَنَّ السُّؤَّالَ يَكْذِبُونَ مَا قُدِّسَ مَنْ رَدَّهُمْ

If it were not that beggars lie, no one who turned them away would be sanctified

17 لَوْ تَعْلَمُونَ مَا أَعْلَمُ لَضَحِكْتُمْ قَلِيلًا وَلَبَكَيْتُمْ كَثِيرًا

If you knew what I know, you would laugh little and weep much

18 لَوْ تَعْلَمُ الْبَهَائِمُ مِنَ الْمَوْتِ مَا يَعْلَمُ ابْنُ آدَمَ مَا أَكَلْتُمْ سَمِينًا

If animals knew about death what the son of Adam knows, you would not eat fattened meat

19 لَوْ نَظَرْتُمْ إِلَى الْأَجَلِ وَمَسِيرِهِ لَأَبْغَضْتُمُ الْأَمَلَ وَغُرُورَهُ "

If you looked at the end and its approach, you would hate hope and its deception

2 hadith (1435 — 1436)

20 لَوْ كَانَ الْمُؤْمِنُ فِي جُحْرِ فَأْرَةٍ لَقَيَّضَ اللَّهُ لَهُ فِيهِ مَنْ يُؤْذِيهِ

If the believer were in a mouse hole, Allah would send someone to harm him there

21 لَوْ كَانَتِ الدُّنْيَا تَزِنُ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ جُنَاحَ بَعُوضَةٍ مَا سَقَى كَافِرًا مِنْهَا شَرْبَةَ مَاءٍ

If the world weighed with Allah the wing of a mosquito, He would not give a disbeliever a sip of water from it

22 لَوْ أَنَّ لِابْنِ آدَمَ وَادِيَيْنِ مِنْ مَالٍ لَابْتَغَى إِلَيْهِمَا ثَالِثًا

If the son of Adam had two valleys of wealth, he would seek a third

23 لَوْ أَنَّكُمْ تَتَوَكَّلُونَ عَلَى اللَّهِ حَقَّ تَوَكُّلِهِ

If you relied on Allah as He deserves

2 hadith (1444 — 1445)

24 لَوْ لَمْ تُذْنِبُوا لَجَاءَ اللَّهُ بِقَوْمٍ يُذْنِبُونَ فَيَغْفِرُ لَهُمْ وَيُدْخِلُهُمُ الْجَنَّةَ

If you did not sin, Allah would bring a people who would sin, and He would forgive them and admit them to Paradise

25 لَوْ لَمْ تُذْنِبُوا لَخَشِيتُ عَلَيْكُمْ مَا هُوَ أَشَدُّ مِنْ ذَلِكَ، الْعُجْبَ الْعُجْبَ

If you did not sin, I would fear for you something worse: self-admiration, self-admiration

26 يَقُولُ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى: أَنَا عِنْدَ ظَنِّ عَبْدِي بِي

Allah the Exalted says: I am as My servant thinks of Me

27 وَجَبَتْ مَحَبَّتِي لِلْمُتَحَابِّينَ فِيَّ

My love is obligatory for those who love each other for My sake

28 لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ حِصْنِي، فَمَنْ دَخَلَهُ أَمِنَ عَذَابِي

There is no god but Allah is My fortress; whoever enters it is safe from My punishment

29 اشْتَدَّ غَضَبِي عَلَى مَنْ ظَلَمَ مَنْ لَا يَجِدُ نَاصِرًا غَيْرِي

My wrath is severe upon one who oppresses someone who finds no helper but Me

30 يَا دُنْيَا مُرِّي عَلَى أَوْلِيَائِي، لَا تَحْلَوْلِي لَهُمْ فَتَفْتِنِيهِمْ

O world, pass by My friends, do not sweeten yourself for them lest you tempt them

31 يَا دُنْيَا اخْدُمِي مَنْ خَدَمَنِي وَأَتْعِبِي مَنْ خَدَمَكِ

O world, serve those who serve Me and tire those who serve you

32 «مَنْ شَغَلَهُ ذَكَرِي عَنْ مَسْأَلَتِي أَعْطَيْتُهُ أَفْضَلَ مَا أُعْطِي السَّائِلِينَ»

Whoever is occupied with My remembrance from asking Me, I will give him better than what I give to those who ask

33 مَنْ أَهَانَ لِي وَلِيًّا فَقَدْ بَارَزَنِي بِالْمُحَارَبَةِ، وَمَا رَدَدْتُ فِي شَيْءٍ أَنَا فَاعِلُهُ مَا رَدَدْتُ فِي قَبْضِ نَفْسِ عَبْدِي الْمُؤْمِنِ

Whoever shows enmity to a friend of Mine, I declare war against him; and I have not hesitated in anything I do as I hesitate in taking the soul of My believing servant

34 وَمَا تَقَرَّبَ إِلَيَّ عَبْدِي الْمُؤْمِنُ بِمِثْلِ الزُّهْدِ فِي الدُّنْيَا، وَلَا تَعَبَّدَ لِي بِمِثْلِ أَدَاءِ مَا افْتَرَضْتُهُ عَلَيْهِ، يَا مُوسَى إِنَّهُ لَمْ يَتَصَنَّعِ الْمُتَصَنِّعُونَ لِي بِمِثْلِ الزُّهْدِ فِي الدُّنْيَا

My servant does not draw near to Me with anything like renunciation of the world, nor worship Me with anything like fulfilling what I have made obligatory upon him; O Musa, those who pretend for My sake have not pretended with anything like renunciation of the world

3 hadith (1458 — 1460)

35 هَذَا دِينٌ ارْتَضَيْتُهُ لِنَفْسِي، وَلَنْ يُصْلِحَهُ إِلَّا السَّخَاءُ وَحُسْنُ الْخُلُقِ

This is a religion I have chosen for Myself, and nothing will set it right except generosity and good character

36 إِذَا وَجَّهْتُ إِلَى عَبْدٍ مِنِ عَبِيدِي مُصِيبَةً فِي بَدَنِهِ أَوْ مَالِهِ وَوَلَدِهِ ثُمَّ اسْتَقْبَلَ ذَلِكَ بِصَبِرٍ جَمِيلٍ

If I send a calamity upon a servant in his body, wealth, or child, and he meets it with beautiful patience

37 الْكِبْرِيَاءُ رِدَائِي وَالْعَظَمَةُ إِزَارِي

Pride is My cloak and greatness is My garment

3 hadith (1463 — 1465)

38 اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عِلْمٍ لَا يَنْفَعُ

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from knowledge that does not benefit

3 hadith (1466 — 1468)

39 اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ أَضِلَّ أَوْ أُضَلَّ

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from going astray or being led astray

40 اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ تَعْجِيلَ عَافِيَتِكَ

O Allah, I ask You for the hastening of Your well-being

41 اللَّهُمَّ خِرْ لِي وَاخْتَرْ لِي

O Allah, choose and select for me

42 اللَّهُمَّ حَسَّنْتَ خَلْقِي فَحَسِّنْ خُلُقِي

O Allah, You have beautified my creation, so beautify my character

2 hadith (1472 — 1473)

43 اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي

O Allah, You are Pardoning, You love to pardon, so pardon me

44 اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي مَا أَخْطَأْتُ وَمَا تَعَمَّدْتُ

O Allah, forgive me for what I have erred and what I have done intentionally

45 اللَّهُمَّ آتِ نَفْسِي تَقْوَاهَا، وَزَكِّهَا أَنْتَ خَيْرُ مَنْ زَكَّاهَا "

O Allah, grant my soul its piety and purify it; You are the best to purify it

46 اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شُرُورِهِمْ وَأَدْرَأُ بِكَ فِي نُحُورِهِمْ

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from their evils and I defend myself with You against them

47 بِكَ أُحَاوِلُ وَبِكَ أُقَاتِلُ وَبِكَ أَصُولُ

With You I strive, with You I fight, and with You I attack

48 اللَّهُمَّ وَاقِيَةً كَوَاقِيَةِ الْوَلِيدِ "

O Allah, (grant) protection like the protection of a newborn

49 اللَّهُمَّ أَذَقْتَ أَوَّلَ قُرَيْشٍ نَكَالًا فَأَذِقْ آخِرَهُمْ نَوَالًا

O Allah, You made the first of Quraysh taste punishment, so make the last of them taste favor

50 اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لِأُمَّتِي فِي بُكُورِهَا

O Allah, bless my nation in its early mornings

51 إِلَيْكَ انْتَهَتِ الْأَمَانِيُّ يَا صَاحِبَ الْعَافِيَةِ

To You all hopes end, O Possessor of well-being

52 رَبِّ تَقَبَّلْ تَوْبَتِي، وَاغْسِلْ حَوْبَتِي

My Lord, accept my repentance and wash away my sins

53 اللَّهُمَّ بِكَ انْتَشَرْتُ، وَإِلَيْكَ تَوَجَّهْتُ، وَبِكَ اعْتَصَمْتُ

O Allah, by You I spread, to You I turn, and by You I seek refuge

1 hadith (1497 — 1497)

54 اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِيشَةً سَوِيَّةً، وَمِيتَةً نَقِيَّةً، وَمَرَدًّا غَيْرَ مُخْزٍ وَلَا فَاضِحٍ

O Allah, I ask You for a sound life, a pure death, and a return that is neither disgraceful nor shameful
