Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, the greatest act of goodness is that a person treats his father's friends well after his father's death." Muslim ibn Hajjaj has also narrated with his chain: "Indeed, the greatest act of goodness is that a person maintains ties with his father's friends after his father's death."

Brief Explanation
Explanation: -
From these ahadith, it is understood that maintaining relations and showing kindness to the friends and relatives of one’s parents after their death is a great act of virtue. Furthermore, the requirements of maintaining family ties (silat ar-rahm) dictate that whether the parents are alive or have passed on to Allah, in every situation, one should treat their friends and relatives well.

In this regard, the incident of Sayyiduna Ibn Umar radi Allahu anhu serves as an example for us. Abdullah bin Dinar narrates that whenever Sayyiduna Ibn Umar radi Allahu anhu would travel to Makkah, he would have a donkey with him. When he would become weary of riding the camel, he would ride the donkey for comfort, and he also had a turban which he would tie on his head. One day, while he was riding the donkey, a villager passed by. Recognizing him, Ibn Umar asked: “Are you not the son of so-and-so?” He replied: “Yes, indeed.” Ibn Umar then gave him the donkey and said: “Ride on it,” and also gifted him the turban, saying: “Tie it on your head.” Some of the companions of Ibn Umar radi Allahu anhu said: “May Allah forgive you! You gave that villager the donkey on which you used to rest during your journey, and the turban with which you tied your head?” He replied: “I heard the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam say: ‘The greatest act of goodness is that a man maintains relations and shows kindness to his father’s friends after his father’s death.’ And you should know that this man’s father was a friend of my father, Sayyiduna Umar radi Allahu anhu.” [مسلم : 2552]

On one occasion, a man came to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and said: “O Messenger of Allah! I have committed a very great sin. Is there any room for repentance for me?” The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam asked: “Is your mother alive?” He replied: “No.” The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam asked: “Do you have a maternal aunt?” He replied: “Yes.” The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “Then show kindness to her.” [ترمذي : 1904 ، صحيح]

Sayyiduna Abu Usayd Hamidi radi Allahu anhu says: We were present in the company of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam when a man from the tribe of Banu Salamah came and asked: “O Messenger of Allah! Is there any way for me to show kindness to my parents after their death?” The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam replied: “Yes: pray for them, seek forgiveness for them, fulfill their bequests after them, maintain the ties of kinship which they used to maintain, and honor their friends.” [أبو داود : 5142 ، ابن ماجه : 3664 ، حسن]
