Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) says that once we were returning with the Messenger of Allah. When we reached Dhat al-Riqa’, we left a shady tree for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). A polytheist came at that time, and the Prophet’s sword was hanging from the tree. He took the Prophet’s sword and drew it, and said, “Do you fear me?” I said, “No.” He said, “Now who will save you from me?” I said, “Allah will save me.” The companions frightened and threatened him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said that Allah caused the sword to fall from his hand. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Now who will save you?” He said, “You are the best taker.” And he said, “I promise you that I will not fight against you, nor will I be with those who fight against you.” Hearing this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) put the sword back in its sheath and then announced the prayer. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led one group in two rak’ahs, then they left, and led the other group in two rak’ahs as well. In this way, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed four rak’ahs, and the people prayed two rak’ahs.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to present himself before the people in the fields of Mina and Arafat and would say to them: "Is there any man who will take me to his people? For the Quraysh have prevented me from conveying the words and message of my Lord to the people." During this, a man from Hamdan came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and the Prophet asked him: "To which tribe do you belong?" He said: "To Hamdan." The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, asked him: "Do you have any status or rank among your people?" He said: "Yes." Then a doubt arose in his heart that perhaps his people might humiliate him, so he said to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "First, I will go to my people and inform them, then next year I will come to you." The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Very well." So he left, and before the next year, in the month of Rajab itself, a delegation of the Ansar arrived.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir, may Allah be pleased with him, that when his father, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin Haram, was martyred, he owed a debt of some dates to a Jew. He left behind two orchards in inheritance, and all the fruit of both was encompassed by the Jew’s debt. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said to the Jew: “Is it possible for you to take some dates this year and defer some for the next year?” He refused. Then the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “When the time comes to harvest the dates, call me.” I did so. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, came along with the two Shaykhs and sat at the top or in the middle, and said to me: “Start measuring and giving to the people,” and he himself began to supplicate. So I started measuring and giving to everyone until the entire debt was paid off from just the smaller orchard. After that, I presented fresh dates to eat and water to drink. They ate and drank. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “These are the blessings about which you will be questioned on the Day of Resurrection.”

Yahya bin Abi Kathir says that I asked Abu Salamah which part of the Qur'an was revealed first. He mentioned Surah Al-Muddathir. I said: Was Surah Iqra’ not revealed first? He said that I had asked this same question to Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him), and he gave this answer, and I also asked this question, so he said: I am telling you what the Prophet (peace be upon him) himself told us. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: I stayed in the neighborhood of the cave of Hira for a month. When I completed the month and came down from the mountain and reached the bottom of the valley, someone called out to me. I looked ahead, behind, to my right and to my left, but I saw no one. After a short while, the voice came again. I looked around again, but saw no one. The third time the voice came, I raised my head and saw Sayyiduna Jibril in the air on his throne. Seeing this, I was seized with intense trembling, and I went to Khadijah and said, "Cover me with a thick blanket." So she covered me with a blanket and poured water over me. At that moment, Allah revealed this verse: "O you who covers himself [with a cloak], arise and warn..." to the end.

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) refused. This happened three times. The fourth time, he did not come. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) inquired, and the companions informed him that he had left Madinah Munawwarah. It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we were with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in a battle, probably Banu Mustaliq, when two slaves fought with each other, one of whom belonged to a Muhajir and the other to an Ansari. The Muhajir called out to the Muhajirin and the Ansari called out to the Ansar for help. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) heard this call and came out and said: Leave these foul slogans. Then he said: What are these cries of ignorance? What are these cries of the time of ignorance? Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) further says that when the Muhajirin came to Madinah, their number was less than the Ansar, but later their number increased. When Abdullah bin Ubayy came to know of this, he said: This has happened. By Allah, when we reach Madinah, the more honorable will expel the more humble from there. Sayyiduna Umar heard this and came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! Give me permission to strike off the head of this hypocrite. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Umar, leave it, lest people start saying that Muhammad kills his own companions.
