Ibn Abi Najih says that once I asked Tawus, if a person, while stoning the Jamarat, throws six pebbles at a Jamrah instead of seven, what is the ruling? He said that he should give charity equal to a handful of wheat. After that, I met Mujahid and asked him the same question and also mentioned Tawus's answer. He said, "May Allah have mercy on them, have they not heard this hadith of Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) that in the Hajj we performed with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), after stoning the Jamarat, when we sat down and started talking among ourselves, someone said, 'I threw six pebbles,' someone said, 'seven,' someone said, 'eight,' and someone said, 'nine,' but he (the Prophet) did not consider there to be any harm in it."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once he became ill in Makkah Mukarramah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to visit him. He said: O Messenger of Allah! I fear that I may die in this land from which I had migrated, just as happened with Sa’d bin Khawlah. So please pray to Allah for my health. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said three times: “O Allah! Grant Sa’d healing.” Then Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! I have a lot of wealth, and my only heir is one daughter. Can I bequeath all my wealth in the way of Allah? He said: “No.” He asked about bequeathing two-thirds of his wealth, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) again forbade it. He asked about half, and he was still forbidden. Then when he asked about one-third, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Yes! You may bequeath one-third, and even one-third is a lot. Remember! Whatever you spend on yourself is charity, whatever you spend on your family is charity, whatever you spend on your wife is charity. And that you leave your family in a good state is much better than leaving them in such a state that they are forced to beg from people.”

Aamir bin Sa’d says that once his brother Umar went out from Madinah Munawwarah to visit Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) at his goat farm. When Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) saw him, he became worried (thinking, may Allah bring good, perhaps he has brought some important news), and said: “I seek Allah’s protection from any bad news this rider may have.” When he came near, he said: “Father! People in Madinah Munawwarah are disputing about the government, and you are absorbed with your goats like villagers?” Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) struck his chest and said: “Be quiet! I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: ‘Allah loves the servant who is pious, self-sufficient, and keeps himself hidden.’”

Ibn Muammar says that once ‘Amir bin Sa’d narrated this hadith to ‘Umar bin ‘Abd al-‘Aziz (may Allah have mercy on him)—while he was the governor of Madinah—from his father, Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Whoever in the morning, on an empty stomach, eats seven ‘ajwah dates from anywhere between the two sides of Madinah, nothing will harm him that day until evening.” The narrator thinks that he also said: “If he eats them in the evening, nothing will harm him until morning.” ‘Umar bin ‘Abd al-‘Aziz (may Allah have mercy on him) said: “Amir! Think carefully about what hadith you are narrating from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)!” He said: “I bear witness that I am not lying about Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him), and that Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) did not lie about the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).”

Aamir bin Sa’d narrates that once Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) was riding his mount and heading towards his palace in the valley of ‘Aqiq. When he arrived there, he saw a slave cutting down a tree. He seized all the wood and other things (that the slave had cut). When Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) returned, the owners of the slave came to him and asked him to return what he had taken from the slave. He said, “Should I return what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has given me? Allah’s refuge!” And with this, he refused to return those things. Benefit: Its explanation is coming soon in Hadith number 1460.
Hadith 1444
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “It is from the good fortune of the son of Adam that he seeks guidance from Allah (Istikhara) in every matter, and is content with His decision. And it is from the misfortune of the son of Adam that he abandons seeking guidance from Allah and expresses displeasure at Allah’s decision.”

Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that once, while passing through the Prophet’s Mosque, I passed by Sayyiduna Uthman Ghani (may Allah be pleased with him). I greeted him with salam, and he looked at me intently but did not reply to my salam. I went to Sayyiduna Umar Farooq (may Allah be pleased with him) and said to him twice, “O Leader of the Believers! Has anything new occurred in Islam?” He replied, “No! Is everything alright?” I said, “I just passed by Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) in the mosque, I greeted him with salam, he looked at me intently but did not reply to my salam.” Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) sent a message and called Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) and asked, “What prevented you from replying to your brother’s salam?” Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) replied, “I did not do so.” I said, “Why not?” Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) swore an oath, and I also swore an oath. After a short while, Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) remembered and said, “Yes! That did happen. I seek forgiveness from Allah and repent to Him. You just passed by me. Actually, at that time, I was thinking about something I heard from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and by Allah! Whenever I remember that matter, my eyes become fixed and a veil comes over my heart (meaning I become unaware of myself).” Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “I will tell you about it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) once, at the beginning of a conversation, mentioned a supplication. After a short while, a Bedouin came and occupied the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) until, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up, I followed behind him. When I feared that by the time I reached the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he would have already reached his house, I struck my foot hard on the ground. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned towards me and said, ‘Who is it? Is it Abu Ishaq?’ I replied, ‘Yes, O Messenger of Allah!’ The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) told me to stop. I said, ‘You mentioned a supplication at the beginning before us, then that Bedouin came and occupied you.’ The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, ‘Yes! That is the supplication of Sayyiduna Yunus (peace be upon him) which he made in the belly of the fish, that is «لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي كُنْتُ مِنْ الظَّالِمِينَ» whenever any Muslim supplicates to his Lord with these words in any matter, his supplication will surely be accepted.’”
Hadith 1463
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) once set out with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). When they reached Thaniyyat al-Wada’, he began to weep and said, “Are you leaving me behind with the women and children?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Are you not pleased that your relation to me is like that of Harun (peace be upon him) to Musa (peace be upon him), except that there is no Prophethood after me?”
Hadith 1464
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “I hope that my Ummah will not be so helpless before their Lord that Allah Almighty will delay their reckoning for half a day.” Someone asked Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him): What is meant by half a day? He replied: Five hundred years.
Hadith 1465
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “I hope that my Ummah will not be so helpless before their Lord that Allah Almighty will delay their reckoning for half a day.” Someone asked Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him): What is meant by half a day?
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) that the meaning of this verse was asked from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): «﴿هُوَ الْقَادِرُ عَلَى أَنْ يَبْعَثَ عَلَيْكُمْ عَذَابًا مِنْ فَوْقِكُمْ أَوْ مِنْ تَحْتِ أَرْجُلِكُمْ﴾ [الأنعام : 65]» "Allah is able to send punishment upon you from above you or from beneath your feet." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The time for the interpretation of this has not yet come."
Hadith 1467
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If something less than a fingernail of Paradise were to appear in this world, all four directions of the earth and sky would be adorned. And if a man from Paradise were to look into this world and his bracelet became visible, its light would outshine the light of the sun just as the sun's light outshines the light of the stars."
Hadith 1468
Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that on the day of the Battle of Uhud, I saw two men on the right and left of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) who were wearing white clothes, and they were fighting very fiercely. I had never seen them before nor after that.
Hadith 1469
Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: “There are two prayers after which no voluntary prayer should be performed: the Fajr prayer, until the sun rises, and the ‘Asr prayer, until the sun sets.”

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) sought permission from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to enter his house. At that time, some women of the Quraysh (the noble wives, may Allah be pleased with them) were sitting with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), talking. They were asking the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for an increase (in sustenance), and their voices were raised. But when Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked for permission to enter, all of them quickly adjusted their veils. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave them permission to enter. When he entered, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was smiling. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! May Allah always keep you smiling and happy like this. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “I am amazed at these women who were sitting with me just now, but as soon as they heard your voice, they quickly observed veiling.” Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! You are more deserving that they should fear you. Then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O enemies of your own souls! You fear me but do not fear the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)? They said: Yes! Because you are harsher and sterner than the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “By Him in Whose hand is my soul! Whenever Satan sees you walking on a path, he leaves that path and takes another.”
Hadith 1473
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: "Whoever wishes to humiliate the Quraysh, Allah will humiliate him."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I became ill in Makkah Mukarramah. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to visit me. I said: O Messenger of Allah! I have a lot of wealth and my only heir is one daughter. Can I bequeath two-thirds of my wealth in the way of Allah? He said: “No.” I asked about half, but he still forbade it. Then when I asked about one-third of the wealth, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Yes! You may bequeath one-third, and even one-third is a lot (he said this three times).” Then he placed his hand on his forehead and passed it over my face, chest, and stomach, and prayed: “O Allah! Grant Sa’d healing, and complete his migration.” To this day, I feel the coolness of the hands of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in my liver.
Hadith 1475
Once, Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) heard a man saying: «لَبَّيْكَ ذَا الْمَعَارِجِ» So he said, “The One whom you are responding to will be Most High, but we never said this word in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).”
Hadith 1476
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He is not one of us who does not recite the Noble Qur'an with a beautiful voice." Waki' explained its meaning as: The one who does not recite the Noble Qur'an with a pleasant voice is not one of us.
Hadith 1477
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “The best remembrance is that which is hidden, and the best provision is that which suffices.”
