Hadith 1599
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I submitted: O Messenger of Allah! Can I bequeath all my wealth in the way of Allah? He said: “No.” He asked about bequeathing two-thirds of his wealth, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) again forbade it. He asked about half, and he was still forbidden. Then when he asked about one-third of his wealth, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Yes! You can bequeath one-third, and even one-third is a lot. Remember! If you leave your family in a good state, it is much better than leaving them in such a condition that they are forced to stretch their hands before people.”
Hadith 1600
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) appointed Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) as his deputy in Madinah during the expedition of Tabuk and left him there, he (Ali) said: "O Messenger of Allah! Will you leave me behind with the children and women?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Are you not pleased that your relation to me is the same as that of Harun (peace be upon him) to Musa (peace be upon him), except that there is no prophethood after me?"
Hadith 1601
Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) stated in his final will that when I die, make my grave in the form of a lahd, and do it in the same way as was done with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).
Hadith 1602
Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) stated in his final will that my grave should be made in the form of a lahd, and raw bricks should be placed over it, just as was done with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
Hadith 1603
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we were performing Tawaf with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Some of us completed seven circuits in Tawaf, some eight, and some even more than that, but the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "There is no harm."

By the One in Whose hand is the soul of Abu al-Qasim, faith will withdraw between these two mosques just as a snake withdraws into its hole.”

A person is tested according to the strength of his religion; if his religion is strong, his trials are increased, and if there is weakness in his religion, his trials are lightened. And trials continue to befall a person until, when he walks upon the earth, there remains no sin upon him.”

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) that on one occasion, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) left Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) as his deputy behind him in a certain expedition. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “Are you leaving me behind with the women and children?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Ali! Are you not pleased that your relation to me is like that of Harun (peace be upon him) to Musa (peace be upon him)? Except that there will be no prophet after me.” And I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say on the occasion of the Battle of Khaybar: “Tomorrow I will give this flag to a man who loves Allah and His Messenger, and Allah and His Messenger love him.” We tried to make ourselves prominent for that honor, but the tongue of Prophethood declared: “Call Ali to me.” When he was called, it was found that he was suffering from an eye ailment. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) applied his saliva to his eyes, and handed the flag to him. Allah granted victory to the Muslims at his hands. And when this verse was revealed: «﴿نَدْعُ أَبْنَاءَنَا وَأَبْنَاءَكُمْ﴾ [آل عمران : 61]» “We will call our sons and you call your sons,” the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called Sayyiduna Ali, Sayyidah Fatimah, Sayyiduna Hasan, and Sayyiduna Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them all) and said: “O Allah! These are my family.”
Hadith 1609
Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) said during the time of trial faced by Sayyiduna Uthman Ghani (may Allah be pleased with him): I bear witness that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “A time of tribulations will soon come, in which the one who sits will be better than the one who stands, the one who stands will be better than the one who walks, and the one who walks will be better than the one who runs.” The narrator asked: If someone enters my house and extends his hand to kill me, what should I do? He replied: “Be like the son of Adam (Habil).”
Hadith 1610
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said regarding Sayyiduna Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him: "This is Abbas bin Abdul Muttalib, who is the most generous with his hand and the greatest at maintaining ties among the Quraysh."

The Bedouin said, "All these words are related to my Lord, what is there for me?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You should say: «اَللّٰهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَارْحَمْنِي وَاهْدِنِي وَارْزُقْنِي» 'O Allah! Forgive me, have mercy on me, guide me, provide for me.'"

Mus'ab bin Sa'd says that four blessed verses of the Qur'an were revealed about my father. My father says that in one battle I obtained a sword. I said: O Messenger of Allah! Grant this to me. He said: "Put it down." I said: O Messenger of Allah! Please grant this to me, will I be considered like the person who has no need? The Prophet (peace be upon him) again said: "Put it back where you found it." Upon this, the opening verse of Surah Al-Anfal was revealed. Then, before the prohibition of alcohol was revealed, an Ansari arranged a feast. The guests ate and drank well and became intoxicated with wine, and began to boast to each other. The Ansar said that the Ansar are better, and the Muhajirun began to consider themselves better. During this, a man picked up the jawbone of a camel and injured another man's nose. The person whose nose was injured was Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him). Upon this, the verse of Surah Al-Ma'idah prohibiting wine was revealed. Then, when I accepted Islam, my mother said to me: Has Allah not commanded you to maintain ties of kinship and to treat parents well? By Allah! I will neither eat nor drink until you renounce Muhammad (peace be upon him). So it happened; she stopped eating and drinking until people forcibly put a stick in her mouth to open it and poured something to drink into it. Upon this, this verse was revealed: «﴿وَوَصَّيْنَا الْإِنْسَانَ بِوَالِدَيْهِ حُسْنًا وَإِنْ جَاهَدَاكَ لِتُشْرِكَ بِي مَا لَيْسَ لَكَ بِهِ عِلْمٌ فَلَا تُطِعْهُمَا﴾ [العنكبوت : 8]» "We have enjoined upon man kindness to his parents. But if they strive to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them." Then, once the Prophet (peace be upon him) came to visit me during my illness. I asked: O Messenger of Allah! Should I bequeath all my wealth? The Prophet (peace be upon him) forbade me from this. He also forbade me when I asked about half, but when I asked about a third, the Prophet (peace be upon him) remained silent, and after that, people began to act upon this.
Hadith 1615
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you hear that a plague has broken out in a land, do not go there, and if you are in a land where a plague has broken out, do not flee from it."
Hadith 1616
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me at the time of the Battle of Uhud: "Shoot arrows, may my parents be sacrificed for you."
Hadith 1617
Yahya bin Ubaid says that Muhammad bin Sa’d once came out of the toilet before us and began to perform ablution. During ablution, he wiped over his leather socks. We were surprised at this and asked: What is this? He said that my father narrated to me that he saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) doing the same.

Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I am the very first man among the Arabs who shot an arrow in the path of Allah. We witnessed a time when we used to fight in jihad alongside the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and at that time we had nothing to eat except the branches of grapevines and acacia trees. Each one of us would defecate like a goat, with nothing else mixed in it. And today, the people of Banu Asad reproach me for my Islam—then indeed I have suffered a great loss and all my efforts have been wasted.
Hadith 1619
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) that I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) turning (his head) to the right and to the left while saying salam.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the day of the Battle of the Trench, I saw a man who was protecting himself with a shield; sometimes he would raise the shield above his nose, sometimes lower it. Seeing this, I turned my attention to my quiver, took out a blood-stained arrow from it, and fitted it to the bow. When he lowered the shield, I aimed and shot the arrow at him. Before that, I did not forget to fit the wooden shaft of the arrow. As soon as the arrow struck, he fell down and his legs went up. Seeing this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) laughed so much that his blessed teeth became visible. I asked the reason for this, and he replied: "Because of that man's action."

Mus'ab says that Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) used to emphasize these five words and would narrate them from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): «اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ الْبُخْلِ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ الْجُبْنِ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ أُرَدَّ إِلَى أَرْذَلِ الْعُمُرِ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ فِتْنَةِ الدُّنْيَا وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ» "O Allah! I seek refuge in You from miserliness and stinginess, I seek refuge in You from cowardice, I seek refuge in You from being returned to a decrepit old age, I seek refuge in You from the trials of the world, and I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave."

Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that once I swore by Lat and ‘Uzza. My companions said to me, “You have uttered an improper thing.” I went to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, “I have only recently accepted Islam, and an oath by Lat and ‘Uzza slipped from my tongue.” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Say this three times: «لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللّٰهُ وَحْدَهُ», and spit lightly to your left three times, and recite «اَعُوْذُ بِاللّٰهِ», and do not say such things again.”
Hadith 1623
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “The best remembrance is that which is hidden, and the best provision is that which suffices.”

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) sought permission from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to enter the house. At that time, some women of the Quraysh were sitting with the Prophet (peace be upon him) and talking, and their voices were raised. But when Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was granted permission to enter, all of them quickly adjusted their veils. When he entered, the Prophet (peace be upon him) was smiling. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! May Allah always keep you smiling and happy; may my parents be sacrificed for you. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "I am amazed at these women who were sitting with me just now, but as soon as they heard your voice, they quickly observed hijab." Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) turned towards them and said: O enemies of your own souls! By Allah! The Prophet (peace be upon him) is more deserving that you fear him. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Umar! Leave them, for by Allah! Whenever Satan sees you walking on a path, he leaves that path and takes another."
