Juwairiyah bin Qudamah says that the year in which Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was martyred, I was blessed to perform Hajj that year. I also visited Madinah Munawwarah, where Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) delivered a sermon and said: "I saw in a dream that a red rooster pecked me once or twice," and it happened just like that, as he was wounded by a spear in the assassination attempt. Anyway, people were allowed to visit him, so first the noble Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) came to him, then the general people of Madinah, then the people of Shaam, and then the people of Iraq. I was among those who entered with the people of Iraq. Whenever a group of people went to him, they praised him and tears flowed from his eyes. When we entered his room, we saw that his stomach was tied with a white turban, but a stream of blood was still flowing from it. We requested him for a will, which no one before us had done. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Hold fast to the Book of Allah, for as long as you follow it, you will never go astray." We requested further advice, so he said: "I advise you to treat the Muhajireen well, for people are always few or many. I also advise you to treat the Ansar well, for they are the fortress of Islam where the people of Islam took refuge. Also, treat the Bedouins well, for they are your origin and your substance. And I advise you to treat the Dhimmis well, for they are under the responsibility of your Prophet (with whom you have a covenant) and are the means of livelihood for your families." Now go, he did not say anything more than this. However, the narrator added on another occasion regarding the Bedouins that "they are your brothers and the enemies of your enemy."

Juwairiyah bin Qudamah says that the year in which Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was martyred, I was blessed with the opportunity to perform Hajj that year. I also visited Madinah Munawwarah, where Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) delivered a sermon and said: "I saw in a dream that a red rooster pecked me once or twice." So, only one Friday had passed when he was attacked. Then the narrator mentioned the complete hadith, and that he (Umar) said: "I advise you to treat the dhimmis well, for they are under the responsibility of your Prophet (peace be upon him) (he has made a covenant with them). And regarding the villagers, he said: 'I advise you to treat the villagers well, for they are your brothers and the enemies of your enemies.'"
Hadith 364
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that such people have testified to me whose words are trustworthy, among them is Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), who in my view is the most trustworthy of them all, that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) forbade that after the Fajr prayer until sunrise, no prayer should be performed, and after the Asr prayer until sunset, no voluntary prayer should be performed.
Hadith 365
Suwaid bin Ghaflah reports that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) while delivering a sermon at "Jabiyah" said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade (men) from wearing silk, except for an amount equal to two, three, or four fingers, and while saying this, Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) also gestured with his palm.
Hadith 366
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The deceased is punished in his grave because of the lamentation that is done over him."

Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: One day we were sitting in the company of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when suddenly a man came walking. He was dressed in strong, white clothes and had extremely black hair. There were no signs of travel visible on him, nor did any of us recognize him. That man came and sat near the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He joined his knees with the knees of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and placed his hands on the thighs of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)! Tell me about Islam, what is Islam?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "To bear witness that there is no deity except Allah and that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah, to establish prayer, to give zakat, to fast in Ramadan, and to perform Hajj to the House of Allah." He affirmed (the words of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him), so we were amazed at his questioning and then confirming. He then asked, "What is Iman (faith)?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "That you believe in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Last Day, and in destiny, both its good and its bad." He said, "You have spoken the truth." Then he asked, "What is Ihsan (excellence)?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "That you worship Allah as if you see Him, and if you cannot see Him, then (know that) He surely sees you (so always keep in mind that Allah is watching us)." He then asked, "When will the Hour (Day of Judgment) come?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "The one being questioned knows no more about it than the questioner (meaning, both of us are unaware in this matter)." He said, "Then tell me some of its signs." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "When you see those who were barefoot, naked, and destitute—shepherds—competing in constructing tall buildings, and when slave women give birth to their mistresses, then the Hour is near." Then that man left, and after a while, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me, "O Umar! Do you know who that questioner was?" I replied, "Allah and His Messenger know best." He said, "That was Jibreel (Gabriel, peace be upon him), who came to teach you the important matters of your religion."
Hadith 368
The previous hadith has also been narrated through this second chain of transmission.

Abu Nadrah says that I asked Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) forbids Hajj Tamattu', while Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) permits it. What is the reason for this? He narrated a hadith to me, saying that I performed Hajj Tamattu' in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and according to one narration, in the presence of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him). But when Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) became the caliph, he addressed the people in a sermon and said: "The Qur'an is the Qur'an, and the Prophet is the Prophet. In the blessed era of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), there were two types of Mut'ah: one was Mut'at al-Hajj, which is called Hajj Tamattu', and the other was Mut'at al-Nisa', which is to give women something in the form of clothes at the time of divorce as a recommended act."
Hadith 370
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: If you put your trust in Allah as He deserves to be trusted, you would be provided for as the birds are provided for; they go out in the morning with empty stomachs and return in the evening with full stomachs.

Abdullah bin Sa’idi (may Allah have mercy on him) says that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) sent me to a place to collect Zakat. When I finished and presented myself before Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) and handed over the wealth to him, he ordered that I be given a salary. I submitted, “I did this work for the pleasure of Allah, and He alone will reward me for it.” Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “Whatever is given to you, take it, because during the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), I also performed this service once. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave me some wealth, and I said the same thing as you. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘If wealth comes to you without your desire and request, then take it and use it; otherwise, give it in charity.’”

Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that one day I was very happy, and in a state of joy I kissed my wife while I was fasting. Afterwards, I realized and went to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah! Today a great sin has been committed by me; I kissed my wife while I was fasting." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Tell me, if you rinse your mouth while fasting, what will happen?" I replied, "There is no harm in that." He said, "Then how can there be harm in this?"

Yahya bin Ya’mar says that once I mentioned to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) that we people travel to different places in the world, and we meet some of those who deny destiny. He said: When you return to those people, tell them that Ibn Umar is free from you and you are free from him. He said this three times and then narrated this tradition: Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) says, One day we were sitting in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when suddenly a man came walking. Then he described his appearance. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him twice to come closer, so he came so close that his knees touched the knees of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: O Messenger of Allah! Tell me, what is faith? He replied: “You believe in Allah, His angels, Paradise and Hell, resurrection after the Day of Judgment, and destiny.” He then asked, what is Islam? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: That you establish prayer, pay zakat, fast in Ramadan, perform Hajj to the House of Allah, and perform the ritual bath after impurity. He then asked, what is Ihsan? He replied: “That you worship Allah as if you see Him, and if you cannot imagine that, then (know that) He surely sees you (so at least imagine that Allah is watching us).” To every question of his, we would say that we have never seen anyone who honored and respected the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) more than him, and he kept saying repeatedly that you have spoken the truth. He then asked: When will the Hour (Day of Judgment) come? He replied: “The one being asked does not know more than the one asking, that is, both of us are unaware in this matter.” When that man left, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Go and bring that man back.” The noble Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) went out to look for him but did not find him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “That was Jibreel who came to teach you the important matters of your religion. Previously, whenever he came in any form, I would recognize him, but this time I did not recognize him.”

Yahya bin Ya’mar says that once I mentioned to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that we people travel to different places in the world, and we meet some of those who deny predestination (qadar). Hadith 376
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever provides shade over a Mujahid, Allah will provide shade over him on the Day of Resurrection. Whoever equips a Mujahid with the necessities of Jihad until he is able to stand on his own feet, a reward equal to that of the Mujahid will continue to be written for him. And whoever builds a mosque for the pleasure of Allah in which Allah is remembered, Allah will build a house for him in Paradise."
Hadith 377
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If a person misses his routine nightly supplications for any reason, and he recites them at any time between Fajr and Dhuhr the next day, it is as if he has fulfilled his routine during the night itself."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the command regarding the prohibition of alcohol began to be revealed, he prayed, "O Allah! Send down a clear statement regarding alcohol." Then this verse from Surah Al-Baqarah was revealed: «يسألونك عن الخمر والميسر قل فيهما اثم كبير» "O Prophet (peace be upon him)! They ask you about wine and gambling. Say: In them is great sin." And Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was called and this verse was recited to him. He again prayed, "O Allah! Send down a clear statement regarding alcohol." Upon this, this verse from Surah An-Nisa was revealed: «يا ايها الذين آمنوا لاتقربوا الصلاة وانتم سكاري» "O you who believe! Do not approach prayer while you are intoxicated." After the revelation of this verse, when the Prophet's (peace be upon him) muezzin would call the iqamah, he would also announce that no intoxicated person should come near the prayer. And Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was called and this verse was also recited to him, but he again prayed, "O Allah! Send down a clear statement regarding alcohol." Upon this, the verse from Surah Al-Ma'idah was revealed and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was called and its recitation was also made to him. When the Prophet (peace be upon him) reached «فهل انتم منتهون», Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "We have refrained, we have refrained."

Sayyiduna Abu Wa'il says that Sabi bin Ma'bad was a Christian man from the rural tribe of Banu Taghlib who accepted Islam. He asked the people, "Which is the most virtuous deed?" The people replied, "Jihad in the way of Allah." So he intended to participate in jihad. Meanwhile, someone asked him, "Have you performed Hajj?" He said, "No!" The person said, "First perform Hajj and Umrah, then participate in jihad." So he set out with the intention of Hajj, and upon reaching the Miqat, he entered into the state of Ihram for both Hajj and Umrah. When Zaid bin Suhan and Salman bin Rabee'ah found out, they said, "This person is more misguided than his camel." Sabi heard this. When he presented himself before Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), he mentioned to him what Zaid and Salman had said. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him, "You have been guided to the Sunnah of your Prophet."

Abdullah bin Buraidah (may Allah have mercy on him) says that once Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was sitting at the place where the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to sit, and funeral processions would pass by there. A funeral passed by, and the people praised the deceased. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "It has become obligatory." Then a second funeral passed by, and the people praised that deceased as well. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) again said: "It has become obligatory." The same happened with the third funeral. When the fourth funeral passed by, the people said: "He was the biggest liar." Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "The greatest liar among the people is the one who lies most against Allah. After him are those who lie against the soul present in their own bodies." The people asked: "Tell us, if four people testify to the goodness of a Muslim, what is the ruling?" He replied: "Paradise becomes obligatory for him." The people asked: "And if there are three?" He said: "The same ruling applies." We asked about two, and he said: "Even if there are two, the same ruling applies." If I had asked about one, it would have been more beloved to me than red camels. Someone asked Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him): "Are you saying this from your own opinion, or did you hear it from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)?" He replied: "No, rather I heard it from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)."

Ubayyah bin Rifa’ah says that when Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) learned that Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) had built a palace for himself where the voices of the complainants could no longer reach, he immediately sent Muhammad bin Maslamah (may Allah be pleased with him): When he arrived there, he took out a flint and kindled a fire with it, bought wood worth one dirham and set it on fire. Someone went and told Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man is doing such and such, he said that it is Muhammad bin Maslamah, and saying this, he came to him and swore that he had not said anything. Muhammad bin Maslamah said, “We will do only what we have been ordered, and if you have any message to send, we will deliver that too.” Saying this, he set fire to the door of the palace. Then Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) offered him provisions for the journey, but he did not accept it and returned. When he reached Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), it was midday, and the whole journey had taken him nineteen days. When Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) saw him, he said, “If we did not have a good opinion of you, we would have thought that perhaps you did not deliver our message to him.” He replied, “Why not! In response, he sent you greetings and apologized, and swore by Allah that he had not said anything of the sort.” Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked, “Did he give you provisions for the journey?” He replied, “I myself did not take them.” He said, “Then why did you not take them with you?” He replied, “I did not like that I should give him your order, and it should be cool for you and hot for me, while around me are the people of Madinah who are dying of hunger, and I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say that no person should go about satiated while leaving his neighbor hungry.”
