حَدِيثُ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ
Hadith of Umm Salamah, wife of the Prophet (peace be upon him)
Hadith 26471
حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمُ بْنُ بَشِيرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ يَسَارٍ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَنَّ سُبَيْعَةَ ابْنَةَ الْحَارِثِ وَضَعَتْ بَعْدَ وَفَاةِ زَوْجِهَا بِعِشْرِينَ لَيْلَةً ، أَوْ نَحْوِ ذَلِكَ ، وَأَرَادَتْ التَّزْوِيجَ ، فَقَالَ لَهَا أَبُو السَّنَابِلِ : لَيْسَ لَكِ ذَلِكَ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَ عَلَيْكِ آخِرُ الْأَجَلَيْنِ ، فَذُكِرَ ذَلِكَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : " تَزَوَّجُ إِذَا شَاءَتْ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Sanabil that Sabi'ah gave birth to a child only 23 or 25 days after the death of her husband, and she began to prepare for another marriage. Someone came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and informed him about this, so the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: If she does so, (it is fine because) her waiting period ('iddah) has ended.
Hadith 26472
حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، قَالَتْ : لَمَّا مَاتَ أَبُو سَلَمَةَ , قُلْتُ : غَرِيبٌ وَمَاتَ بِأَرْضِ غُرْبَةٍ ، فَأَفَضْتُ بُكَاءً ، فَجَاءَتْ امْرَأَةٌ تُرِيدُ أَنْ تُسْعِدَنِي مِنَ الصَّعِيدِ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " تُرِيدِينَ أَنْ تُدْخِلِي الشَّيْطَانَ بَيْتًا قَدْ أَخْرَجَهُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ مِنْهُ ؟ " قَالَتْ : فَلَمْ أَبْكِ عَلَيْهِ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that when my husband Hazrat Abu Salamah passed away, I thought that he was a traveler and had died in a foreign land, so I wept and lamented in my dream. During this time, a woman from the upper area of Madinah Munawwarah came to me to weep with me. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw this and said, "Do you want to let Satan enter your house, whom Allah has already driven out from here?" Hazrat Umm Salamah says that after that, I did not weep over my husband.
Hadith 26473
حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ نَبْهَانَ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ذَكَرَتْ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " إِذَا كَانَ لِإِحْدَاكُنَّ مُكَاتَبٌ ، فَكَانَ عِنْدَهُ مَا يُؤَدِّي ، فَلْتَحْتَجِبْ مِنْهُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When any of you women has a slave who is a mukatab (one who has a contract of manumission) and he possesses enough to pay the amount of his contract and thereby gain his freedom by handing it over to his owner, then that woman should observe veil from her slave.
Hadith 26474
حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ حُمَيْدٍ ، سَمِعَ سَعِيدَ بْنَ الْمُسَيَّبِ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذَا دَخَلَتْ الْعَشْرُ ، فَأَرَادَ رَجُلٌ أَنْ يُضَحِّيَ ، فَلَا يَمَسَّ مِنْ شَعْرِهِ ، وَلَا مِنْ بَشَرِهِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When the ten days of Dhul-Hijjah begin and a person intends to offer a sacrifice, then he should not touch (cut or trim) the hair of his head or any part of his body.
Hadith 26475
حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ سُوقَةَ ، عَنْ نَافِعِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ , ذَكَرَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْجَيْشَ الَّذِي يُخْسَفُ بِهِمْ ، فَقَالَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ : لَعَلَّ فِيهِمْ الْمُكْرَهَ ، فَقَالَ : " إِنَّهُمْ يُبْعَثُونَ عَلَى نِيَّاتِهِمْ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned that army which will be swallowed by the earth. Hazrat Umm Salamah submitted, "It is possible that there may be people in that army who were forced to join it." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "They will be resurrected according to their intentions."
Hadith 26476
حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ عَمَّارٍ يَعْنِي الدُّهْنِيَّ , سَمِعَ أَبَا سَلَمَةَ يُخْبِرُ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " قَوَائِمُ مِنْبَرِي رَوَاتِبُ فِي الْجَنَّةِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The legs of my pulpit will be fixed in Paradise.
Hadith 26477
حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ بْنِ مُوسَى ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ يَعْنِي الْمَقْبُرِيَّ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ رَافِعٍ ، وَهُوَ مَوْلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، كَذَا قَالَ سُفْيَانُ , أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنِّي امْرَأَةٌ أَشُدُّ ضَفْرَ رَأْسِي , قَالَ : " يُجْزِئُكِ أَنْ تَصُبِّي عَلَيْهِ الْمَاءَ ثَلَاثًا " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), "O Messenger of Allah, I am a woman whose hair is long and I have to tie it in plaits (so is it necessary to undo them when performing ghusl?)" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "It is sufficient for you to pour water over it three times thoroughly."
Hadith 26478
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَشَدَّ تَعْجِيلًا لِلظُّهْرِ مِنْكُمْ ، وَأَنْتُمْ أَشَدُّ تَعْجِيلًا لِلْعَصْرِ مِنْهُ " .
Hazrat Umm Salamah narrates that the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to offer the Zuhr prayer earlier than you people, and you offer the Asr prayer earlier than he used to.
Hadith 26479
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ ، قَالَ : سُئِلَتْ عَائِشَةُ وَأُمُّ سَلَمَةَ : أَيُّ كان أعجب إلى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ؟ قَالَتْ : " مَا دَامَ عَلَيْهِ وَإِنْ قَلَّ " .
Someone asked Hazrat Aisha and Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with them) which deed was most beloved to the Prophet (peace be upon him). They replied: That which is done consistently, even if it is little.
Hadith 26480
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ هُنَيْدَةَ الْخُزَاعِيِّ ، عَنْ أُمِّهِ ، قَالَتْ : دَخَلْتُ عَلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، فَسَأَلْتُهَا عَنِ الصِّيَامِ ، فَقَالَتْ : كَانَ النبيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " يَأْمُرُنِي أَنْ أَصُومَ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ مِنْ كُلِّ شَهْرٍ ، أَوَّلُهَا الِاثْنَيْنِ ، وَالْجُمُعَةُ ، وَالْخَمِيسُ .
Hindah's mother says that I once went to Hazrat Umm Salamah and asked her about fasting, so she said that the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to instruct me to fast three days every month, the first of which was on Monday, then Thursday, and Friday.
Hadith 26481
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْأَعْلَى ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ ، قَالَ : دَخَلْتُ أَنَا وَأَبِي عَلَى عَائِشَةَ وَأُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، قَالَتْا : إنَّ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كان " يُصْبِحُ جُنُبًَا ، ثُمَّ يَصُومُ " .
Abu Bakr bin Abdur Rahman bin Attab says that once I was present with my father in the service of Hazrat Aisha and Hazrat Umm Salama, so both of them said that sometimes the Prophet (peace be upon him) would be in a state of janabah in the morning by choice without having seen a dream, and he would complete his fast.
Hadith 26482
حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَوْنٍ ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ ، عَنْ أُمِّهِ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، قَالَتْ : مَا نَسِيتُ قَوْلَهُ يَوْمَ الْخَنْدَقِ وَهُوَ يُعَاطِيهِمُ اللَّبَنَ ، وَقَدْ اغْبَرَّ شَعْرُ صَدْرِهِ ، وَهُوَ يَقُولُ : " اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّ الْخَيْرَ خَيْرُ الْآخِرَهْ فَاغْفِرْ لِلْأَنْصَارِ وَالْمُهَاجِرَهْ " قَالَ : فَرَأَى عَمَّارًا ، فَقَالَ : " وَيْحَهُ ابْنُ سُمَيَّةَ تَقْتُلُهُ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ " , قَالَ : فَذَكَرْتُهُ لِمُحَمَّدٍ يَعْنِي ابْنَ سِيرِينَ , فَقَالَ : عَنْ أُمِّهِ ؟ قُلْتُ : نَعَمْ ، أَمَا إِنَّهَا كَانَتْ تُخَالِطُهَا ، تَلِجُ عَلَيْهَا.
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that I do not forget the words of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) which he said on the occasion of the Battle of the Trench, when the blessed chest of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was covered with dust. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was handing bricks to the people and kept saying: "O Allah, the real goodness is the goodness of the Hereafter, so forgive the Ansar and the Muhajireen." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw Hazrat Ammar and said: "O son of Sumayyah, alas! A rebellious group will kill you."
Hadith 26483
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ سَفِينَةَ مَوْلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، قَالَتْ : كَانَ مِنْ آخِرِ وَصِيَّةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " الصَّلَاةَ الصَّلَاةَ ، وَمَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُكُمْ " , حَتَّى جَعَلَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُلَجْلِجُهَا فِي صَدْرِهِ ، وَمَا يَفِيصُ بِهَا لِسَانُهُ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the last advice of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was to take care of the prayer and to treat your slaves well. While repeating this, the blessed chest of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) began to rattle and his tongue became still.
Hadith 26484
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ مَهْدِيٍّ ، عن مَالِكٌ ، عَنْ سُمَيٍّ , وَعَبْدِ رَبِّهِ , عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ وَأُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، أن رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ : " يُصْبِحُ جُنُبًا مِنْ جِمَاعٍ غَيْرِ احْتِلَامٍ ، ثُمَّ يَصُومُ " , وَفِي حَدِيثِ عَبْدِ رَبِّهِ : فِي رَمَضَانَ.
Abu Bakr bin Abdur Rahman bin Attab says that once I was present with my father in the service of Hazrat Aisha and Hazrat Umm Salama, so both of them said that sometimes the Prophet (peace be upon him) would be in a state of janabah in the morning without having seen a dream, by his own choice, and he would complete his fast.
Hadith 26485
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي الْأَسْوَدِ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ زَيْنَبَ ابْنَةِ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، أَنَّهَا قَدِمَتْ وَهِيَ مَرِيضَةٌ ، فَذَكَرَتْ ذَلِكَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : " طُوفِي مِنْ وَرَاءِ النَّاسِ وَأَنْتِ رَاكِبَةٌ " ,قَالَتْ : فَسَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ عِنْدَ الْكَعْبَةِ يَقْرَأُ بِالطُّورِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that when she reached Makkah Mukarramah, she was ill. She mentioned this to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "You should perform Tawaf while riding, staying behind the people." Hazrat Umm Salamah says: "I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) reciting Surah At-Tur near the Ka'bah."
Hadith 26486
حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ ، عَنْ مِقْسَمٍ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، قَالَتْ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " يُوتِرُ بِسَبْعٍ وَبِخَمْسٍ ، لَا يَفْصِلُ بَيْنَهُنَّ بِسَلَامٍ ، وَلَا بِكَلَامٍ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform Witr with seven or five rak‘ahs, and he would not separate them with salam or speech in any way.
Hadith 26487
حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ رُفَيْعٍ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ ابْنِ الْقِبْطِيَّةِ ، قَالَ : دَخَلَ الْحَارِثُ بْنُ أَبِي رَبِيعَةَ وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ صَفْوَانَ وَأَنَا مَعَهُمَا عَلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، فَسَأَلَاهَا عَنِ الْجَيْشِ الَّذِي يُخْسَفُ بِهِ ، وَكَانَ ذَلِكَ فِي أَيَّامِ ابْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ ، فَقَالَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " يَعُوذُ عَائِذٌ بِالْحِجْرِ ، فَيَبْعَثُ اللَّهُ جَيْشًا ، فَإِذَا كَانُوا بِبَيْدَاءَ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ ، خُسِفَ بِهِمْ " , فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، فَكَيْفَ بِمَنْ أُخْرِجَ كَارِهًا ؟ قَالَ : " يُخْسَفُ بِهِ مَعَهُمْ ، وَلَكِنَّهُ يُبْعَثُ عَلَى نِيَّتِهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ " , فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِأَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ، فَقَالَ : هِيَ بَيْدَاءُ الْمَدِينَةِ.
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that once I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: "A refugee will take refuge in Hatim. Allah will send an army; when they reach the place of Baida, they will be swallowed up by the earth." Hazrat Umm Salamah said, "It is possible that there may be people in that army who were included in it by force." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "They will be resurrected according to their intentions."
Hadith 26488
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُمَارَةَ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ أُمِّ وَلَدٍ لِإِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ ، قَالَتْ : كُنْتُ أَجُرُّ ذَيْلِي ، فَأَمُرُّ بِالْمَكَانِ الْقَذِرِ ، وَالْمَكَانِ الطَّيِّبِ ، فَدَخَلْتُ عَلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، فَسَأَلْتُهَا عَنْ ذَلِكَ ، فَقَالَتْ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " يُطَهِّرُهُ مَا بَعْدَهُ " .
Ibrahim bin Abdur Rahman's slave woman says that I used to walk dragging the hem of my clothes on the ground. During this, I would pass through places where there was filth and also through places that were clean and pure. Once, I went to Umm Salamah and asked her about this issue. She said that I heard the Prophet (peace be upon him) say: "The place that comes after cleanses it."
Hadith 26489
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ شَقِيقٍ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، قَالَتْ : دَخَلَ عَلَيْهَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَوْفٍ ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ : يَا أُمَّهْ ، قَدْ خِفْتُ أَنْ يُهْلِكَنِي كَثْرَةُ مَالِي ، أَنَا أَكْثَرُ قُرَيْشٍ مَالًا ، قَالَتْ : يَا بُنَيَّ ، فَأَنْفِقْ ، فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " إِنَّ مِنْ أَصْحَابِي مَنْ لَا يَرَانِي بَعْدَ أَنْ أُفَارِقَهُ " , فَخَرَجَ ، فَلَقِيَ عُمَرَ ، فَأَخْبَرَهُ ، فَجَاءَ عُمَرُ ، فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهَا ، فَقَالَ لَهَا : بِاللَّهِ مِنْهُمْ أَنَا ؟ فَقَالَتْ : لَا ، وَلَنْ أُبْلِيَ أَحَدًا بَعْدَكَ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that once Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Auf came to her and said, "Mother, I fear that the abundance of wealth may destroy me, because I am the wealthiest among the Quraysh." She replied, "Son, spend it, because I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say that some of my companions will be such that after my separation from them, they will never see me again." When Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Auf went out, he met Hazrat Umar on the way and told him this. Hazrat Umar himself went to Hazrat Umm Salamah and, entering the house, said, "Swear by Allah and tell me, am I also among them?" She replied, "No, but after you, I cannot say this about anyone."

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، قَالَتْ : دَخَلَ عَلَيْهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَعِنْدَهَا مُخَنَّثٌ ، وَعِنْدَهَا أَخُوهَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي أُمَيَّةَ ، وَالْمُخَنَّثُ يَقُولُ لِعَبْدِ اللَّهِ : يَا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ أَبِي أُمَيَّةَ ، إِنْ فَتَحَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْكُمْ الطَّائِفَ غَدًا ، فَعَلَيْكَ بِابْنَةِ غَيْلَانَ ، فَإِنَّهَا تُقْبِلُ بِأَرْبَعٍ ، وَتُدْبِرُ بِثَمَانٍ , قَالَ : فَسَمِعَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ لِأُمِّ سَلَمَةَ : " لَا يَدْخُلَنَّ هَذَا عَلَيْكِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to her house, and there was a mukhannath (effeminate man) present there, as well as Abdullah bin Abi Umayyah, who was the brother of Hazrat Umm Salamah. That eunuch was saying to Abdullah, "O Abdullah bin Abi Umayyah, if tomorrow Allah grants you victory over Taif, then you must obtain the daughter of Ghailan, for she comes with four and returns with eight." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) heard this statement of his and said to Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her), "From now on, he should not enter your house."
Hadith 26491
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، قَالَتْ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّكُمْ تَخْتَصِمُونَ إِلَيَّ ، وَلَعَلَّ بَعْضَكُمْ أَنْ يَكُونَ أَلْحَنَ بِحُجَّتِهِ مِنْ بَعْضٍ ، وَإِنَّمَا أَنَا بَشَرٌ ، أَقْضِي لَهُ عَلَى نَحْوِ مَا أَسْمَعُ مِنْهُ ، فَمَنْ قَضَيْتُ لَهُ مِنْ حَقِّ أَخِيهِ شَيْئًا ، فَإِنَّمَا هُوَ نَارٌ ، فَلَا يَأْخُذْهُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You bring your disputes to me. It is possible that one of you may present his argument with such eloquence and clarity compared to the other that I may decide in his favor based on his argument. (Therefore, remember) if I accept someone's statement and decide in his favor regarding his brother's right, then understand that I am cutting a piece of fire for him and giving it to him. Therefore, he should not take it."
Hadith 26492
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَمَرَهَا أَنْ تُوَافِيَ مَعَهُ صَلَاةَ الصُّبْحِ يَوْمَ النَّحْرِ بِمَكَّةَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) instructed her to perform the Fajr prayer on the day of sacrifice (the 10th of Dhul-Hijjah) with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in Makkah Mukarramah.
Hadith 26493
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، قَالَتْ : جَاءَتْ أُمُّ حَبِيبَةَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَتْ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، هَلْ لَكَ فِي أُخْتِي ؟ قَالَ : " فَأَصْنَعُ بِهَا مَاذَا ؟ " , قَالَتْ : تَزَوَّجُهَا ، فَقَالَ لَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " وَتُحِبِّينَ ذَلِكَ ؟ " فَقَالَتْ : نَعَمْ ، لَسْتُ لَكَ بِمُخْلِيَةٍ ، وَأَحَقُّ مَنْ شَرِكَنِي فِي خَيْرٍ أُخْتِي ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّهَا لَا تَحِلُّ لِي " ، قَالَتْ : فَوَاللَّهِ لَقَدْ بَلَغَنِي أَنَّكَ تَخْطُبُ دُرَّةَ ابْنَةَ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ بِنْتَ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَوْ كَانَتْ تَحِلُّ لِي لَمَا تَزَوَّجْتُهَا ، قَدْ أَرْضَعَتْنِي وَأَبَاهَا ثُوَيْبَةُ مَوْلَاةُ بَنِي هَاشِمٍ ، فَلَا تَعْرِضْنَ عَلَيَّ أَخَوَاتِكُنَّ وَلَا بَنَاتِكُنَّ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that once Hazrat Umm Habibah came to the presence of the Messenger of Allah and said, "O Messenger of Allah, are you interested in my sister?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "What do you mean?" She said, "You should marry her." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, "Do you like this?" She replied, "Yes, I am not your only wife, so among those who can share in this goodness with me, my sister is the most deserving in my view." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "She is not lawful for me (because you are in my marriage)." She said, "By Allah, I have heard that you are going to send a marriage proposal for Durrah bint Umm Salamah." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Even if she were lawful for me, I would not marry her, because both I and her father (Abu Salamah) were breastfed by Thuwaibah, the freed slave woman of Banu Hashim. In any case, do not present your sisters and daughters before me."
Hadith 26494
حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ سَعْدٍ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أُمِّ حَبِيبَةَ أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ : دَخَلَ عَلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقُلْتُ : هَلْ لَكَ فِي أُخْتِي ؟ فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ .
The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain of transmission.
Hadith 26495
حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، عَنِ ابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أُمِّ حَبِيبَةَ بِنْتِ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ , قَالَتْ : قُلْتُ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : أَلَا تَزَوَّجُ أُخْتِي ؟ فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ .
The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain of transmission.
Hadith 26496
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْيَمَانِ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا شُعَيْبٌ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ ، أَنَّ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتَ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ أَخْبَرَتْهُ ، أَنَّ أُمَّ حَبِيبَةَ ابْنَةَ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ أَخْبَرَتْهَا , أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، انْكِحْ أُخْتِي ، فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ ، قال عبد الله بن أحمد : قَالَ أَبِي وَوَافَقَهُ ابْنُ أَخِي الزُّهْرِيِّ ، وَقَالَ عُقَيْلٌ إِنَّ أُمَّ حَبِيبَةَ قَالَتْ.

Hadith 26497
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ شَقِيقٍ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، قَالَتْ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذَا حَضَرْتُمْ الْمَيِّتَ أَوْ الْمَرِيضَ فَقُولُوا خَيْرًا ، فَإِنَّ الْمَلَائِكَةَ يُؤَمِّنُونَ عَلَى مَا تَقُولُونَ " , قَالَتْ : فَلَمَّا مَاتَ أَبُو سَلَمَةَ ، أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّ أَبَا سَلَمَةَ قَدْ مَاتَ ، فَقَالَ : " قُولِي اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَلَهُ ، وَأَعْقِبْنِي مِنْهُ عُقْبَى حَسَنَةً " , قَالَتْ : فَقُلْتُ ، فَأَعْقَبَنِي اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ مَنْ هُوَ خَيْرٌ لِي مِنْهُ ، مُحَمَّدًا صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ.
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When you go to someone who is near death or ill, then pray for good for him, because the angels say Ameen to your supplication. When Hazrat Abu Salamah passed away, I went to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah, Abu Salamah has passed away." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You should make this supplication: "O Allah, forgive me and him, and grant me a better substitute than him." I made this supplication, so Allah granted me a better substitute in the form of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) himself.
Hadith 26498
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ الدَّسْتُوَائِيُّ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ أَنَّهَا كَانَتْ هِيَ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " يَغْتَسِلَانِ مِنْ إِنَاءٍ وَاحِدٍ مِنَ الْجَنَابَةِ ، وَكَانَ يُقَبِّلُهَا وَهُوَ صَائِمٌ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform ghusl of janabah from the same vessel, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to kiss her while he was in the state of fasting.
Hadith 26499
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ رَافِعٍ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، قَالَتْ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذَا حَضَرَ الْعَشَاءُ ، وَحَضَرَتْ الصَّلَاةُ ، فَابْدَءُوا بِالْعَشَاءِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When the time for dinner and the time for prayer come together, then eat the food first.
Hadith 26500
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ طَلْحَةَ بْنِ يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ فَرُّوخَ ، أَنَّ امْرَأَةً سَأَلَتْ أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ ، فَقَالَتْ : إِنَّ زَوْجِي يُقَبِّلُنِي وَهُوَ صَائِمٌ وَأَنَا صَائِمَةٌ ، فَمَا تَرَيْنَ ؟ فَقَالَتْ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " يُقَبِّلُنِي وَهُوَ صَائِمٌ وَأَنَا صَائِمَةٌ " .
A woman asked Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that my husband kisses me while fasting, and I am also fasting. What is your opinion about this? She replied that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to kiss me while fasting, and I would also be fasting.
Hadith 26501
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي حُمَيْدُ بْنُ نَافِعٍ ، عَنْ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أُمِّهَا ، أَنَّ امْرَأَةً تُوُفِّيَ زَوْجُهَا ، فَاشْتَكَتْ عَيْنَهَا ، فَذَكَرُوهَا لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَذَكَرُوا الْكُحْلَ ، قَالُوا : نَخَافُ عَلَى عَيْنِهَا ؟ قَالَ : " قَدْ كَانَتْ إِحْدَاكُنَّ تَمْكُثُ فِي بَيْتِهَا فِي شَرِّ أَحْلَاسِهَا أَوْ فِي أَحْلَاسِهَا ، فِي سِتْرِ بَيْتِهَا حَوْلًا ، فَإِذَا مَرَّ بِهَا كَلْبٌ , رَمَتْ بِبَعْرَةٍ , أَفَلَا أَرْبَعَةَ أَشْهُرٍ وَعَشْرًا ؟ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that a woman whose husband had passed away developed a complaint in her eyes. She mentioned this to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and sought permission to apply kohl to her eyes, saying, "We fear for her eyes." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: (In the time of ignorance) one of you women would stay in her house for a whole year wearing the worst of clothes, then a dog would pass by her, and she would throw dung and come out. So can she not now spend four months and ten days?
Hadith 26502
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ حُسَيْنٍ ، عَنْ زَيْنَبَ ابْنَةِ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَكَلَ كَتِفًا ، فَجَاءَهُ بِلَالٌ ، فَخَرَجَ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ ، وَلَمْ يَمَسَّ مَاءً " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ate the meat of the shoulder. During this, Hazrat Bilal came, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) went for prayer without touching water.
Hadith 26503
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي أَبِي ، عَنْ زَيْنَبَ ابْنَةِ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، قَالَتْ : قَالَتْ أُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يَسْتَحْيِي مِنَ الْحَقِّ ، هَلْ عَلَى الْمَرْأَةِ مِنْ غُسْلٍ إِذَا احْتَلَمَتْ ؟ قَالَ : " نَعَمْ ، إِذَا رَأَتْ الْمَاءَ " , فَضَحِكَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ , قَالَتْ : أَتَحْتَلِمُ الْمَرْأَةُ ؟ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " فَبِمَ يُشْبِهُ الْوَلَدُ ؟ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that once Hazrat Umm Sulaim presented herself in the court of the Messenger and said, "O Messenger of Allah, Allah does not shy away from the truth. Please tell me, if a woman experiences a wet dream, is ghusl (ritual bath) obligatory upon her as well?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) replied, "Yes, if she sees water (i.e., discharge)." Upon this, Hazrat Umm Salamah started laughing and said, "Does a woman also have wet dreams?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Then why does the child resemble his mother?"
Hadith 26504
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَمَّا تَزَوَّجَهَا ، أَقَامَ عِنْدَهَا ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ ، وَقَالَ " إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ بِكِ عَلَى أَهْلِكِ هَوَانٌ ، وَإِنْ شِئْتِ ، سَبَّعْتُ لَكِ ، وَإِنْ سَبَّعْتُ لَكِ ، سَبَّعْتُ لِنِسَائِي " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) married her, he stayed with her for three days and said: "There should be no aspect of deficiency in this matter before your family. If you wish, I can stay with you for seven days, but in that case, I will also spend seven days with each of the other noble wives."
Hadith 26505
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتُ بْنُ عُمَارَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَتْنِي رَيْطَةُ ، عَنْ كَبْشَةَ ابْنَةِ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ ، قَالَتْ : قُلْتُ لِأُمِّ سَلَمَةَ : أَخْبِرِينِي مَا نَهَى عَنْهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَهْلَهُ ؟ قَالَتْ : " نَهَانَا أَنْ نَعْجُمَ النَّوَى طَبْخًا ، وَأَنْ نَخْلِطَ الزَّبِيبَ وَالتَّمْرَ " .
Kabsha bint Abi Maryam says that I asked Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her), "Tell me, what did the Prophet (peace be upon him) forbid his family from?" She replied, "The Prophet (peace be upon him) forbade us from cooking dates so much that even their pits would dissolve, and also from mixing raisins and dates together to make nabidh."
Hadith 26506
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي عَمَّارٌ الدُّهْنِيُّ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " قَوَائِمُ الْمِنْبَرِ رَوَاتِبُ فِي الْجَنَّةِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The legs of my pulpit will be fixed in Paradise.
Hadith 26507
حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ , قال عبد الله : وَسَمِعْتُهُ أَنَا مِنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ أَبِي نَصْرٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي مُسَاوِرٌ الْحِمْيَرِيُّ ، عَنْ أُمِّهِ ، قَالَتْ : سَمِعْتُ أُمَّ سَلَمَة َ , تَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ لِعَلِيٍّ : " لَا يُبْغِضُكَ مُؤْمِنٌ ، وَلَا يُحِبُّكَ مُنَافِقٌ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saying to Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): "No believer can hate you, and no hypocrite can love you."
Hadith 26508
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ أَبِي سُلَيْمَانَ ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ أَبِي رَبَاحٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي مَنْ سَمِعَ أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ , تَذْكُرُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ فِي بَيْتِهَا ، فَأَتَتْهُ فَاطِمَةُ بِبُرْمَةٍ ، فِيهَا خَزِيرَةٌ ، فَدَخَلَتْ بِهَا عَلَيْهِ ، فَقَالَ لَهَا : " ادْعِي زَوْجَكِ وَابْنَيْكِ " , قَالَتْ : فَجَاءَ عَلِيٌّ , وَالْحُسَيْنُ , وَالْحَسَنُ ، فَدَخَلُوا عَلَيْهِ ، فَجَلَسُوا يَأْكُلُونَ مِنْ تِلْكَ الْخَزِيرَةِ ، وَهُوَ عَلَى مَنَامَةٍ لَهُ عَلَى دُكَّانٍ تَحْتَهُ كِسَاءٌ لَهُ خَيْبَرِيٌّ , قَالَتْ : وَأَنَا أُصَلِّي فِي الْحُجْرَةِ ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ اللَّهُ لِيُذْهِبَ عَنْكُمُ الرِّجْسَ أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ وَيُطَهِّرَكُمْ تَطْهِيرًا سورة الأحزاب آية 33 , قَالَتْ : فَأَخَذَ فَضْلَ الْكِسَاءِ ، فَغَشَّاهُمْ بِهِ ، ثُمَّ أَخْرَجَ يَدَهُ ، فَأَلْوَى بِهَا إِلَى السَّمَاءِ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " اللَّهُمَّ هَؤُلَاءِ أَهْلُ بَيْتِي وَخَاصَّتِي ، فَأَذْهِبْ عَنْهُمْ الرِّجْسَ ، وَطَهِّرْهُمْ تَطْهِيرًا , اللَّهُمَّ هَؤُلَاءِ أَهْلُ بَيْتِي وَخَاصَّتِي ، فَأَذْهِبْ عَنْهُمْ الرِّجْسَ ، وَطَهِّرْهُمْ تَطْهِيرًا " , قَالَتْ : فَأَدْخَلْتُ رَأْسِي الْبَيْتَ ، فَقُلْتُ : وَأَنَا مَعَكُمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : " إِنَّكِ إِلَى خَيْرٍ ، إِنَّكِ إِلَى خَيْرٍ " , قَالَ عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ : وَحَدَّثَنِي أَبُو لَيْلَى ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، مِثْلَ حَدِيثِ عَطَاءٍ سَوَاءً , قَالَ عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ : وَحَدَّثَنِي دَاوُدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَوْفٍ أَبُو الْحَجَّافِ ، عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ بِمِثْلِهِ سَوَاءً.
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was in her house when Hazrat Fatimah came carrying a pot in which there was khazirah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to her, "Call your husband and children as well." So Hazrat Ali and Hasan and Husain also came, and they sat down and began to eat the khazirah. At that time, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was in a state of sleep on a platform, and under his blessed body was a sheet from Khaybar, and I was praying in the room. During this, Allah revealed this verse: "O People of the House! Allah only wishes to remove impurity from you and to purify you thoroughly." After this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took the remaining part of the sheet and covered all of them with it, and he took his hand out and pointed towards the sky and said, "O Allah, these are my family and my close ones, so remove impurity from them and purify them thoroughly." He prayed this twice. Upon this, I put my head into the room and said, "O Messenger of Allah, am I not with you?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "You are also upon goodness, you are also upon goodness." The previous hadith is also narrated from this second chain.
Hadith 26509
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ زَيْنَبَ ابْنَةِ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، قَالَتْ : قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، هَلْ لِي مِنْ أَجْرٍ فِي بَنِي أَبِي سَلَمَةَ أَنْ أُنْفِقَ عَلَيْهِمْ ، وَلَسْتُ بِتَارِكَتِهِمْ هَكَذَا وَهَكَذَا وَهَكَذَا ، إِنَّمَا هُمْ بَنِيَّ ؟ قَالَ : " نَعَمْ ، لَكِ فِيهِمْ أَجْرٌ مَا أَنْفَقْتِ عَلَيْهِمْ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that I once submitted in the presence of the Messenger of Allah, "O Messenger of Allah, if I spend something on the children of Abu Salamah, will I get a reward for it? Because I cannot leave them in such a state, as they are also my children." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Yes, whatever you spend on them, you will be rewarded for it."
Hadith 26510
حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ يَسَارٍ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَنَّهَا اسْتَفْتَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي امْرَأَةٍ تُهَرَاقُ الدَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : " تَنْتَظِرُ قَدْرَ اللَّيَالِي وَالْأَيَّامِ الَّتِي كَانَتْ تَحِيضُهُنَّ وَقَدْرَهُنَّ مِنَ الشَّهْرِ ، فَتَدَعُ الصَّلَاةَ ، ثُمَّ لِتَغْتَسِلْ ، وَلْتَسْتَثْفِرْ ، ثُمَّ تُصَلِّي " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about the ruling for a woman whose blood continues to flow constantly. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said that she should wait for as many days and nights as she used to experience impurity previously, and estimate those days in the month, and refrain from prayer for that period. After that, she should perform ghusl, tie a cloth, and start offering prayers.
