حَدِيثُ حُذَيْفَةَ بْنِ الْيَمَانِ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ
Hadith of Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman from the Prophet (peace be upon him)
Hadith 23280
حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بنُ هَارُونَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبو مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ رِبعِيِّ بنِ حِرَاشٍ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ أَنَّهُ قَدِمَ مِنْ عِنْدِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : لَمَّا جَلَسْنَا إِلَيْهِ أَمْسِ ، سَأَلَ أَصْحَاب مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : أَيُّكُمْ سَمِعَ قَوْلَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الْفِتَنِ ؟ فَقَالُوا : نَحْنُ سَمِعْنَاهُ ، قَالَ : لَعَلَّكُمْ تَعْنُونَ فِتْنَةَ الرَّجُلِ فِي أَهْلِهِ وَمَالِهِ ؟ قَالُوا : أَجَلْ ، قَالَ : لَسْتُ عَنْ تِلْكَ أَسْأَلُ ، تِلْكَ يُكَفِّرُهَا الصَّلَاةُ وَالصِّيَامُ وَالصَّدَقَةُ ، وَلَكِنْ أَيُّكُمْ سَمِعَ قَوْلَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الْفِتَنِ الَّتِي تَمُوجُ مَوْجَ الْبحْرِ ؟ قَالَ : فَأَمْسَكَ الْقَوْمُ ، وَظَنَنْتُ أَنَّهُ إِيَّايَ يُرِيدُ ، قُلْتُ : أَنَا ، قَالَ لِي : أَنْتَ لِلَّهِ أَبوكَ ! قَالَ : قُلْتُ : " تُعْرَضُ الْفِتَنُ عَلَى الْقُلُوب عَرْضَ الْحَصِيرِ ، فَأَيُّ قَلْب أَنْكَرَهَا نُكِتَتْ فِيهِ نُكْتَةٌ بيْضَاءُ ، وَأَيُّ قَلْب أُشْرِبهَا نُكِتَتْ فِيهِ نُكْتَةٌ سَوْدَاءُ ، حَتَّى يَصِيرَ الْقَلْب عَلَى قَلْبيْنِ : أَبيَضَ مِثْلِ الصَّفَا لَا يَضُرُّهُ فِتْنَةٌ مَا دَامَتْ السَّمَوَاتُ وَالْأَرْضُ ، وَالْآخَرِ أَسْوَدَ مُرْبدٍّ كَالْكُوزِ مُخْجِيًا وَأَمَالَ كَفَّهُ لَا يَعْرِفُ مَعْرُوفًا ، وَلَا يُنْكِرُ مُنْكَرًا ، إِلَّا مَا أُشْرِب مِنْ هَوَاهُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that once he came from Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). He says: Yesterday, when we were sitting with him, he asked the noble companions (may Allah be pleased with them), "Who among you has heard the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding tribulations (fitan)?" The companions (may Allah be pleased with them) said, "We have all heard it." Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Perhaps you are thinking of the tribulation which concerns a man's family and wealth?" The companions (may Allah be pleased with them) replied, "Yes!" Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "I am not asking you about that. Its expiation is prayer, fasting, and charity. Has anyone among you heard the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding those tribulations which will spread like the waves of the sea?" At this, the people fell silent, and I realized that they wanted to get the answer from me. So I said, "I have heard that saying." Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said to me, "Surely, you must have heard it." I said, "Tribulations will be presented before the hearts just as a mat is woven, straw by straw. Any heart that absorbs them will have a black dot placed upon it, and any heart that rejects them will have a white dot placed upon it, until the hearts become of two kinds: one white like a pure stone, which no tribulation will harm as long as the heavens and the earth remain; and the other black and dark, like an overturned vessel, not recognizing good as good nor evil as evil, except what its desires incline towards."
Hadith 23281
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبةُ ، عَنْ عَدِيِّ بنِ ثَابتٍ ، عَنْ عَبدِ اللَّهِ بنِ يَزِيدَ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ : " أَخْبرَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بمَا هُوَ كَائِنٌ إِلَى أَنْ تَقُومَ السَّاعَةُ ، فَمَا مِنْهُ شَيْءٌ إِلَّا قَدْ سَأَلْتُهُ إِلَّا أَنِّي لَمْ أَسْأَلْهُ : مَا يُخْرِجُ أَهْلَ الْمَدِينَةِ مِنَ الْمَدِينَةِ ؟ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) informed me about the events that will occur until the Day of Judgment, and there was nothing left regarding it that I did not ask the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), except that I did not ask what thing will expel the people of Madinah from Madinah.
Hadith 23282
حَدَّثَنَا بهْزٌ ، وَأَبو النَّضْرِ , قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ ، حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ هُوَ ابنُ هِلَالٍ ، قَالَ أَبو النَّضْرِ فِي حَدِيثِهِ : حَدَّثَنِي حُمَيْدٌ يَعْنِي ابنَ هِلَالٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا نَصْرُ بنُ عَاصِمٍ اللَّيْثِيُّ ، قَالَ : أَتَيْتُ الْيَشْكُرِيَّ فِي رَهْطٍ مِنْ بنِي لَيْثٍ ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ : قُلْنَا : بنُو لَيْثٍ ، قَالَ : فَسَأَلْنَاهُ وَسَأَلَنَا ، ثم قلنا : أتيناك نسألك عَنْ حَدِيثِ حُذَيْفَةَ ، قَالَ : أَقْبلْنَا مَعَ أَبي مُوسَى قَافِلِينَ وَغَلَتْ الدَّوَاب بالْكُوفَةِ ، فَاسْتَأْذَنْتُ أَنَا وَصَاحِب لِي أَبا مُوسَى فَأَذِنَ لَنَا ، فَقَدِمْنَا الْكُوفَةَ باكِرًا مِنَ النَّهَارِ ، فَقُلْتُ لِصَاحِبي : إِنِّي دَاخِلٌ الْمَسْجِدَ ، فَإِذَا قَامَتْ السُّوقُ خَرَجْتُ إِلَيْكَ ، قَالَ : فَدَخَلْتُ الْمَسْجِدَ ، فَإِذَا فِيهِ حَلْقَةٌ كَأَنَّمَا قُطِعَتْ رُءُوسُهُمْ يَسْتَمِعُونَ إِلَى حَدِيثِ رَجُلٍ ، قَالَ : فَقُمْتُ عَلَيْهِمْ ، قَالَ : فَجَاءَ رَجُلٌ فَقَامَ إِلَى جَنْبي ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : مَنْ هَذَا ؟ قَالَ : أَبصْرِيٌّ أَنْتَ ؟ قَالَ : قُلْتُ : نَعَمْ ، قَالَ : قَدْ عَرَفْتُ لَوْ كُنْتَ كُوفِيًّا لَمْ تَسْأَلْ عَنْ هَذَا ، هَذَا حُذَيْفَةُ بنُ الْيَمَانِ ، قَالَ : فَدَنَوْتُ مِنْهُ فَسَمِعْتُهُ ، يَقُولُ : كَانَ النَّاسُ يَسْأَلُونَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنِ الْخَيْرِ وَأَسْأَلُهُ عَنِ الشَّرِّ ، وَعَرَفْتُ أَنَّ الْخَيْرَ لَنْ يَسْبقَنِي ، قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَبعْدَ هَذَا الْخَيْرِ شَرٌّ ؟ قَالَ : " يَا حُذَيْفَةُ ، تَعَلَّمْ كِتَاب اللَّهِ ، وَاتَّبعْ مَا فِيهِ " ، ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَبعْدَ هَذَا الْخَيْرِ شَرٌّ ؟ قَالَ : " فتنهٌ وشرٌّ " ، قال : قلت : يا رَسُولَ الله ، أَبعْدَ هَذَا الشَرِّ خَيْرِ ؟ قال : " يا حذيفة ، تَعَلَّم كِتَاب الله ، وَاتَّبعْ مَا فِيهِ " ، ثَلاَثَ مَرَّاتٍ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ الله ، أَبعْدَ هَذَا الشَرٌّ خَيْرٌّ ؟ قَالَ : " هُدْنَةٌ عَلَى دَخَنٍ ، وَجَمَاعَةٌ عَلَى أَقْذَاءٍ " ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، الْهُدْنَةُ عَلَى دَخَنٍ مَا هِيَ ؟ قَالَ : " لَا تَرْجِعُ قُلُوب أَقْوَامٍ عَلَى الَّذِي كَانَتْ عَلَيْهِ " ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَبعْدَ هَذَا الْخَيْرِ شَرٌّ ؟ قَالَ : " يَا حذيفة ، تَعَلَّم كِتَاب الله ، واَتَّبعْ مَا فِيهِ " ، ثَلاَثَ مَرَّات ، قَال : قِلْتِِِِِِ : يَا رسول الله ، أبعد هذا الخير شر ؟ قال : " فِتْنَةٌ عَمْيَاءُ صَمَّاءُ عَلَيْهَا دُعَاةٌ عَلَى أَبوَاب النَّارِ ، وَأَنْتَ أَنْ تَمُوتَ يَا حُذَيْفَةُ وَأَنْتَ عَاضٌّ عَلَى جِذْلٍ خَيْرٌ لَكَ مِنْ أَنْ تَتَّبعَ أَحَدًا مِنْهُمْ " .
Nasr bin Asim says that once I came to Yashkari with a group of Banu Laith. He asked, "Who are you people?" We replied, "We are from Banu Laith." We inquired about his well-being and he inquired about ours. Then we said, "We have come to you to learn the hadith of Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him)." He said, "Once we were returning with Hazrat Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him). In Kufa, animals had become very expensive. I, along with one of my companions, sought permission from Hazrat Abu Musa. He granted us permission, so we reached Kufa early in the morning. I said to my companion, 'I will be inside the mosque. When the market opens, I will come to you.' I entered the mosque and saw a circle (of people) gathered. It seemed as if their heads had been cut off; they were listening to a man's hadith with great attention. I went and stood near them. Meanwhile, another man came and stood by my side. I asked him, 'Who is this person?' He asked me, 'Are you from Basra?' I said, 'Yes!' He said, 'I already understood that if you were from Kufa, you would not have asked about this person. This is Hazrat Hudhaifa bin Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him).' I went near him and heard him saying, 'People used to ask the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about good, and I used to ask about evil because I knew that good could not go ahead leaving me behind. One day I submitted in the court of the Messenger, "O Messenger of Allah! Will there be evil after this good?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Hudhaifa! Learn the Book of Allah and follow its commands." (He said this three times.) I repeated my question. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "There will be tribulation and evil." I asked, "O Messenger of Allah! Will there be evil after this good?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said three times, "Hudhaifa! Learn the Book of Allah and follow its commands." I asked, "O Messenger of Allah! Will there be evil after this good?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "There will be reconciliation upon smoke and agreement upon filth." I submitted, "O Messenger of Allah! What is meant by reconciliation upon smoke?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "People will not be pleased with this reconciliation in their hearts." Then the same questions and answers took place between me and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "A tribulation will come that will make one blind and deaf. There will be people appointed who will call towards the doors of Hell. O Hudhaifa! If you die in such a state that you are holding the trunk of a tree with your teeth, it is better than following any one of them."
Hadith 23283
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا كَثِيرٌ أَبو النَّضْرِ ، عَنْ رِبعِيِّ بنِ حِرَاشٍ ، قَالَ : انْطَلَقْتُ إِلَى حُذَيْفَةَ بالْمَدَائِنِ لَيَالِيَ سَارَ النَّاسُ إِلَى عُثْمَانَ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رِبعِيُّ ، مَا فَعَلَ قَوْمُكَ ؟ قَالَ : قُلْتُ : عَنْ أَيِّ بالِهِمْ تَسْأَلُ ؟ قَالَ : مَنْ خَرَجَ مِنْهُمْ إِلَى هَذَا الرَّجُلِ ؟ فَسَمَّيْتُ رِجَالًا فِيمَنْ خَرَجَ إِلَيْهِ ، فَقَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " مَنْ فَارَقَ الْجَمَاعَةَ وَاسْتَذَلَّ الْإِمَارَةَ ، لَقِيَ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَلَا وَجْهَ لَهُ عِنْدَهُ " . .
Rabi’ bin Hirash (may Allah have mercy on him) says that when the troublemakers set out towards Hazrat Uthman Ghani (may Allah be pleased with him), I reached Hazrat Hudhaifa bin Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him) in Mada’in. He asked me, “O Rabi’! What happened to your people?” I asked, “What do you want to know about them?” He said, “Who among them has set out towards Hazrat Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him)?” I told him the names of some of them. He said, “I heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Whoever leaves the congregation and humiliates his leader will meet Allah in such a state that he will have no status there.”
Hadith 23284
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بنُ بكْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا كَثِيرُ بنُ أَبي كَثِيرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا رِبعِيُّ بنُ حِرَاشٍ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ أَنَّهُ أَتَاهُ بالْمَدَائِنِ ، فَذَكَرَهُ.
The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain.
Hadith 23285
حَدَّثَنَا أَبو النَّضْرِ ، حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبانُ ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ ، عَنْ زِرِّ بنِ حُبيْشٍ ، قَالَ : أَتَيْتُ عَلَى حُذَيْفَةَ بنِ الْيَمَانِ ، وَهُوَ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ لَيْلَةِ أُسْرِيَ بمُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَهُوَ يَقُولُ : " فَانْطَلَقْتُ أَوْ انْطَلَقْنَا حَتَّى أَتَيْنَا عَلَى بيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ " ، فَلَمْ يَدْخُلَاهُ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : بلْ دَخَلَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَيْلَتَئِذٍ وَصَلَّى فِيهِ ، قَالَ : مَا اسْمُكَ يَا أَصْلَعُ ؟ فَإِنِّي أَعْرِفُ وَجْهَكَ وَلَا أَدْرِي مَا اسْمُكَ ! قَالَ : قُلْتُ : أَنَا زِرُّ بنُ حُبيْشٍ ، قَالَ : فَمَا عِلْمُكَ بأَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَّى فِيهِ لَيْلَتَئِذٍ ؟ قَالَ : قُلْتُ : الْقُرْآنُ يُخْبرُنِي بذَلِكَ ، قَالَ : مَنْ تَكَلَّمَ بالْقُرْآنِ ، فَلَجَ ، اقْرَأْ ، قَالَ : فَقَرَأْتُ : سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي أَسْرَى بِعَبْدِهِ لَيْلا مِنَ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ سورة الإسراء آية 1 ، قَالَ : فَلَمْ أَجِدْهُ صَلَّى فِيهِ ، قَالَ : يَا أَصْلَعُ هَلْ تَجِدُ صَلَّى فِيهِ ؟ قَالَ : قُلْتُ : لَا ، قَالَ : وَاللَّهِ مَا صَلَّى فِيهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَيْلَتَئِذٍ ، لَوْ صَلَّى فِيهِ لَكُتِب عَلَيْكُمْ صَلَاةٌ فِيهِ ، كَمَا كُتِب عَلَيْكُمْ صَلَاةٌ فِي الْبيْتِ الْعَتِيقِ ، وَاللَّهِ مَا زَايَلَا الْبرَاقَ حَتَّى فُتِحَتْ لَهُمَا أَبوَاب السَّمَاءِ ، فَرَأَيَا الْجَنَّةَ وَالنَّارَ وَوَعْدَ الْآخِرَةِ أَجْمَعَ ، ثُمَّ عَادَا عَوْدَهُمَا عَلَى بدْئِهِمَا ، قَالَ : ثُمَّ ضَحِكَ حَتَّى رَأَيْتُ نَوَاجِذَهُ ، قَالَ : وَيُحَدِّثُونَ أَنَّهُ لَرَبطَهُ لِيَفِرَّ مِنْهُ ؟ ! وَإِنَّمَا سَخَّرَهُ لَهُ عَالِمُ الْغَيْب وَالشَّهَادَةِ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : أَبا عَبدِ اللَّهِ ، أَيُّ دَابةٍ الْبرَاقُ ؟ قَالَ : دَابةٌ أَبيَضُ طَوِيلٌ ، هَكَذَا خَطْوُهُ مَدُّ الْبصَرِ .
Zirr bin Hubaish says that once I was present in the company of Hazrat Hudhaifa bin Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him). While narrating the incident of the Night of Ascension (Shab-e-Miraj), he began to mention this saying of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him): "Then we set out from there and reached Bayt al-Maqdis, but we did not enter Bayt al-Maqdis." I said, "On that night, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) did enter Bayt al-Maqdis and also offered prayer there." Upon hearing this, Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "O bald one! What is your name? I recognize you by your face but do not remember your name." I replied, "My name is Zirr bin Hubaish." He said, "How do you know that on that night the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) offered prayer in Bayt al-Maqdis?" I said, "The Qur'an tells us." He said, "The one who speaks from the Qur'an is successful. Recite that verse to me." So when I recited 'Subhanalladhi asra bi'abdihi' (Glory be to Him Who took His servant by night), I did not find anywhere in it that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) offered prayer in Bayt al-Maqdis that night. Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "O bald one! Do you find any mention of prayer in it?" I said, "No." He said, "By Allah! The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) did not offer prayer in Bayt al-Maqdis that night. If the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) had offered prayer in Bayt al-Maqdis, then it would have become obligatory for you to pray there as it happened with the Ka'bah. By Allah! Both of them (the Prophet and Buraq) did not separate until the gates of the heavens were opened for them. Then both of them saw Paradise and Hell and all the promises of the Hereafter. Then both of them returned in the same way as they had gone. Then he began to laugh until I saw his blessed teeth." Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) further said, "People say that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) tied Buraq so that it would not run away, whereas Allah Almighty had made the entire world of the unseen and the seen subservient to him." I asked, "O Abu Abdullah! What kind of animal was Buraq?" He replied, "It was a long white animal whose step reached as far as the eye could see."
Hadith 23286
حَدَّثَنَا أَبو النَّضْرِ ، حَدَّثَنَا شَرِيكٌ ، عَنْ عَبدِ الْمَلِكِ بنِ عُمَيْرٍ ، عَنْ رِبعِيِّ بنِ حِرَاشٍ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ بنِ الْيَمَانِ ، قَالَ : كَانَ النَّبيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَمِنًا أَنْ يَقُولَ إِذَا أَخَذَ مَضْجَعَهُ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ ، وَضَعَ يَدَهُ الْيُمْنَى تَحْتَ خَدِّهِ الْيُمْنَى ، ثُمَّ يَقُولُ : " اللَّهُمَّ باسْمِكَ أَحْيَا وَباسْمِكَ أَمُوتُ " ، فَإِذَا اسْتَيْقَظَ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ ، قَالَ : " الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانِي بعْدَمَا أَمَاتَنِي وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would come to his bed at night, he would say: "O Allah! In Your name we live and die." And when he would wake up, he would say: "All praise is due to Allah who gave us life after causing us to die, and to Him is the gathering."
Hadith 23287
حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بنُ دَاوُدَ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابنُ لَهِيعَةَ ، عَنْ بكْرِ بنِ عَمْرٍو ، عَنْ أَبي عَبدِ الْمَلِكِ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ بنِ الْيَمَانِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " فَضْلُ الدَّارِ الْقَرِيبةِ مِنَ الْمَسْجِدِ عَلَى الدَّارِ الشَّاسِعَةِ ، كَفَضْلِ الْغَازِي عَلَى الْقَاعِدِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The virtue of the house that is far from the mosque over the house that is near the mosque is like the virtue of the one who prays over the one who sits waiting for jihad.
Hadith 23288
حَدَّثَنَا أَبو عَاصِمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا كَثِيرُ بنُ أَبي كَثِيرٍ التَّمِيمِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا رِبعِيُّ بنُ حِرَاشٍ . وَإِسْحَاقُ بنُ سُلَيْمَانَ حَدَّثَنَا كَثِيرٌ ، عَنْ رِبعِيٍّ ، أَنَّهُ أَتَى حُذَيْفَةَ بنَ الْيَمَانِ بالْمَدَائِنِ يَزُورُهُ وَيَزُورُ أُخْتَهُ ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ حُذَيْفَةُ : مَا فَعَلَ قَوْمُكَ يَا رِبعِيُّ ، أَخَرَجَ مِنْهُمْ أَحَدٌ ؟ قَالَ : نَعَمْ ، فَسَمَّى نَفَرًا ، وَذَلِكَ فِي زَمَنِ خُرُوجِ النَّاسِ إِلَى عُثْمَانَ ، فَقَالَ حُذَيْفَةُ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " مَنْ خَرَجَ مِنَ الْجَمَاعَةِ ، وَاسْتَذَلَّ الْإِمَارَةَ ، لَقِيَ اللَّهَ وَلَا وَجْهَ لَهُ عِنْدَهُ " .
Rabi’ bin Hirash (may Allah have mercy on him) says that when the people who stirred up discord set out towards Hazrat Uthman Ghani (may Allah be pleased with him), I reached Hazrat Hudhaifah bin Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him) in Mada’in. He asked me, “O Rabi’! What happened to your people?” I asked, “What do you want to know about them?” He said, “Who among them has set out towards Hazrat Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him)?” I told him the names of some of them. He said, “I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Whoever leaves the congregation and humiliates his leader will meet Allah in such a state that he will have no status there.”
Hadith 23289
حَدَّثَنَا وَهْب بنُ جَرِيرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بنُ حَسَّانَ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ ، عَنْ أَبي عُبيْدَةَ بنِ حُذَيْفَةَ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ ، قَالَ : سَأَلَ رَجُلٌ عَلَى عَهْدِ النَّبيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَأَمْسَكَ الْقَوْمُ ، ثُمَّ إِنَّ رَجُلًا أَعْطَاهُ فَأَعْطَى الْقَوْمُ ، فَقَالَ النَّبيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَنْ سَنَّ خَيْرًا فَاسْتُنَّ بهِ ، كَانَ لَهُ أَجْرُهُ ، وَمِنْ أُجُورِ مَنْ يَتَّبعُهُ غَيْرَ مُنْتَقِصٍ مِنْ أُجُورِهِمْ شَيْئًا ، وَمَنْ سَنَّ شَرًّا فَاسْتُنَّ بهِ ، كَانَ عَلَيْهِ وِزْرُهُ ، وَمِنْ أَوْزَارِ مَنْ يَتَّبعُهُ غَيْرَ مُنْتَقِصٍ مِنْ أَوْزَارِهِمْ شَيْئًا " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that once during the blessed era of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), a person asked people for something. The people hesitated, then one man gave him something, and after that, everyone started giving him. Upon this, the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever introduces a good practice in Islam, he will have its reward and the reward of those who act upon it after him, without their rewards being diminished in the least. And whoever introduces a bad practice in Islam, he will bear its sin and the sin of those who act upon it after him, without their sins being diminished in the least.
Hadith 23290
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا عَبدُ الصَّمَدِ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبدُ الْعَزِيزِ بنُ مُسْلِمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا حُصَيْنٌ ، عَنْ أَبي وَائِلٍ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " لَيَرِدَنَّ عَلَيَّ الْحَوْضَ أَقْوَامٌ ، فَيُخْتَلَجُونَ دُونِي ، فَأَقُولُ : رَب أَصْحَابي ، رَب أَصْحَابي ، فَيُقَالُ لِي : إِنَّكَ لَا تَدْرِي مَا أَحْدَثُوا بعْدَكَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Some people will come to me at the Pond of Kawthar, and I will see them. When they are presented before me, they will be snatched away from in front of me. I will say, "O Lord! My companions!" It will be said, "You do not know what innovations they introduced after you."
Hadith 23291
حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوب ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبي ، عَنْ صَالِحٍ يَعْنِي ابنَ كَيْسَانَ ، عَنِ ابنِ شِهَاب ، قَالَ : قَالَ أَبو إِدْرِيسَ عَائِذُ اللَّهِ بنُ عَبدِ اللَّهِ الْخَوْلَانِيّ : سَمِعْتُ حُذَيْفَةَ بنَ الْيَمَانِ ، يَقُولُ : وَاللَّهِ إِنِّي لَأَعْلَمُ النَّاسِ بكُلِّ فِتْنَةٍ هِيَ كَائِنَةٌ فِيمَا بيْنِي وَبيْنَ السَّاعَةِ ، وَمَا ذَلِكَ أَنْ يَكُونَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَدَّثَنِي مِنْ ذَلِكَ شَيْئًا أَسَرَّهُ إِلَيَّ لَمْ يَكُنْ حَدَّثَ بهِ غَيْرِي ، وَلَكِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ وَهُوَ يُحَدِّثُ مَجْلِسًا أَنَا فِيهِ ، سُئِلَ عَنِ الْفِتَنِ وَهُوَ يَعُدُّ : " الْفِتَنَ فِيهِنَّ ثَلَاثٌ لَا يَذَرْنَ شَيْئًا مِنْهُنَّ كَرِيَاحِ الصَّيْفِ ، مِنْهَا صِغَارٌ وَمِنْهَا كِبارٌ " ، قَالَ حُذَيْفَةُ : فَذَهَب أُولَئِكَ الرَّهْطُ كُلُّهُمْ غَيْرِي . .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifah bin Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him) that, by Allah! I know more than all people about all the tribulations that will occur from now until the Day of Judgment. It was not that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) told me something exclusively that he did not tell anyone else, but rather, I was present in the gathering in which the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned these matters. Questions were being asked to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding tribulations, and the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was counting them. Among them, there are three tribulations that will leave nothing untouched; some of them will be like the winds of summer, some will be small, and some will be great. Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that, except for me, all the participants of that gathering have departed from this world.
Hadith 23292
حَدَّثَنَا فَزَارَةُ بنُ عَمْرٍو ، حَدَّثَنَا إِبرَاهِيمُ بنُ سَعْدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا صَالِحُ بنُ كَيْسَانَ ، فَذَكَرَ مِثْلَهُ.
The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain.
Hadith 23293
حَدَّثَنَا هَارُونُ بنُ مَعْرُوفٍ ، وَسَمِعْتُهُ أَنَا مِنْ هَارُونَ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابنُ وَهْب ، حَدَّثَنِي عَمْرُو بنُ الْحَارِثِ ، أَنَّ عَمْرَو بنَ شُعَيْب حَدَّثَهُ , أَنَّ مَوْلَى شُرَحْبيلَ ابنِ حَسَنَةَ حَدَّثَهُ , أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عُقْبةَ بنَ عَامِرٍ الْجُهَنِيَّ ، وَحُذَيْفَةَ بنَ الْيَمَانِ ، يَقُولَانِ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " حل مَا رَدَّتْ عَلَيْكَ قَوْسُكَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Uqbah (may Allah be pleased with him) and Hazrat Hudhaifah bin Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Eat whatever your arrow hunts and brings to you.
Hadith 23294
حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابنُ لَهِيعَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بنُ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بنِ شُعَيْب أَنَّهُ حَدَّثَهُ , أَنَّ مَوْلَى شُرَحْبيلَ ابنِ حَسَنَةَ حَدَّثَهُ , أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عُقْبةَ بنَ عَامِرٍ الْجُهَنِيَّ وَحُذَيْفَةَ بنَ الْيَمَانِ ، يَقُولَانِ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " كُلْ مَا رَدَّتْ عَلَيْكَ قَوْسُكَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Uqbah (may Allah be pleased with him) and Hazrat Hudhaifah bin Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Eat whatever your arrow hunts and brings to you.
Hadith 23295
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ إِسْرَائِيلَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ أَبو إِسْحَاقَ , عَنْ عَبدِ اللَّهِ بنِ غَالِب ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ ، قَالَ : " سَيِّدُ وَلَدِ آدَمَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ مُحَمَّدٌ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) will be the leader of all the children of Adam on the Day of Judgment.
Hadith 23296
حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا شَرِيكٌ ، عَنْ أَبي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ عَبدِ اللَّهِ بنِ غَالِب ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ ، قَالَ : " سَيِّدُ وَلَدِ آدَمَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ مُحَمَّدٌ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) will be the leader of all the children of Adam on the Day of Judgment.
Hadith 23297

Hadith 23298

It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) will be the leader of all the children of Adam on the Day of Judgment.
Hadith 23299
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بنُ عُمَرَ ، وَخَلَفُ بنُ الْوَلِيدِ , قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بنُ زَكَرِيَّا يَعْنِي ابنَ زَائِدَةَ ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ بنِ عَمَّارٍ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بنِ عَبدِ اللَّهِ الدُّؤَلِيِّ ، قَالَ : قَالَ عَبدُ الْعَزِيزِ أَخُو حُذَيْفَةَ , قَالَ حُذَيْفَةُ : " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا حَزَبهُ أَمْرٌ صَلَّى " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was faced with any distressing matter, he would perform prayer.
Hadith 23300
حَدَّثَنَا سُرَيْجُ بنُ النُّعْمَانِ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، عَنْ عَبدِ الْمَلِكِ بنِ عُمَيْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي ابنُ عَمٍّ لِحُذَيْفَةَ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ ، قَالَ : قُمْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ ، فَقَرَأَ السَّبعَ الطِّوَالَ فِي سَبعِ رَكَعَاتٍ ، وَكَانَ إِذَا رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ مِنَ الرُّكُوعِ ، قَالَ : " سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ " ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ ذِي الْمَلَكُوتِ وَالْجَبرُوتِ ، وَالْكِبرِيَاءِ وَالْعَظَمَةِ " ، وَكَانَ رُكُوعُهُ مِثْلَ قِيَامِهِ ، وَسُجُودُهُ مِثْلَ رُكُوعِهِ ، فَانْصَرَفَ وَقَدْ كَادَتْ تَنْكَسِرُ رِجْلَايَ.
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I stood in prayer at night with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited seven long surahs in seven rak'ahs, and after raising his head from ruku, he would say "Sami' Allahu liman hamidah," then say, "Alhamdu lillahi dhi-l-malakut wa-l-jabarut wa-l-kibriya'i wa-l-'azamah." His ruku was equal in length to his standing, and his prostration was equal to his ruku. When the prayer was finished, my legs were close to breaking.
Hadith 23301
حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ الْهَاشِمِيُّ ، أَخْبرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ يَعْنِي ابنَ جَعْفَرٍ ، أَخْبرَنِي عَمْرٌو يَعْنِي ابنَ أَبي عَمْرٍو ، عَنْ عَبدِ اللَّهِ بنِ عَبدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْأَشْهَلِي ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ بنِ الْيَمَانِ ، أَنّ النَّبيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بيَدِهِ لَتَأْمُرُنَّ بالْمَعْرُوفِ ، وَلَتَنْهَوُنَّ عَنِ الْمُنْكَرِ ، أَوْ لَيُوشِكَنَّ اللَّهُ أَنْ يَبعَثَ عَلَيْكُمْ عِقَابا مِنْ عِنْدِهِ ، ثُمَّ لَتَدْعُنَّهُ فَلَا يَسْتَجِيب لَكُمْ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: By Him in Whose hand is my soul, you must enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong, otherwise Allah will send such a punishment upon you that you will supplicate to Allah but your supplications will not be accepted.
Hadith 23302
حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ ، أَخْبرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ، حَدَّثَنِي عَمْرٌو ، عَنْ عَبدِ اللَّهِ بنِ عَبدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْأَشْهَلِي ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ بنِ الْيَمَانِ ، أَنّ النَّبيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " لَا تَقُومُ السَّاعَةُ حَتَّى تَقْتُلُوا إِمَامَكُمْ ، وَتَجْتَلِدُوا بأَسْيَافِكُمْ ، وَيَرِثُ دِيَارَكُمْ شِرَارُكُمْ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The Day of Judgment will not be established until you kill your leader, fight with two swords, and the worst among you become the inheritors of your world.
Hadith 23303
حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرٌو ، حَدَّثَنِي عَبدُ اللَّهِ بنُ عَبدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْأَشْهَلِيُّ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ بنِ الْيَمَانِ ، أَنّ النَّبيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " لَا تَقُومُ السَّاعَةُ حَتَّى يَكُونَ أَسْعَدَ النَّاسِ بالدُّنْيَا لُكَعُ بنُ لُكَعٍ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The Day of Judgment will not be established until the most fortunate person in the world becomes the most wicked among the wicked.
Hadith 23304
حَدَّثَنَا وَهْب بنُ جَرِيرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبي ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ الْأَعْمَشَ ، عَنْ أَبي وَائِلٍ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ ، قَالَ : ذُكِرَ الدَّجَّالُ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ : " لَأَنَا لَفِتْنَةُ بعْضِكُمْ أَخْوَفُ عِنْدِي مِنْ فِتْنَةِ الدَّجَّالِ ، وَلَنْ يَنْجُوَ أَحَدٌ مِمَّا قَبلَهَا إِلَّا نَجَا مِنْهَا ، وَمَا صُنِعَتْ فِتْنَةٌ مُنْذُ كَانَتْ الدُّنْيَا صَغِيرَةٌ وَلَا كَبيرَةٌ ، إِلَّا لِفِتْنَةِ الدَّجَّالِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the mention of Dajjal was being made in the presence of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "In my view, the trial among yourselves is more dangerous for you than the trial of Dajjal. Whoever is saved from this trial before the trial of Dajjal, he will also be saved from the trial of Dajjal. And since the world was created, every minor and major trial has been made for the trial of Dajjal."
Hadith 23305
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بنُ سَعِيدٍ الْقَطَّانُ أَبو سَعِيدٍ الْأَحْوَلُ ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ ، حَدَّثَنِي إِبرَاهِيمُ مُنْذُ نَحْوِ سِتِّينَ سَنَةٍ ، عَنْ هَمَّامِ بنِ الْحَارِثِ ، قَالَ : مَرَّ رَجُلٌ عَلَى حُذَيْفَةَ ، فَقِيلَ : إِنَّ هَذَا يَرْفَعُ الْحَدِيثَ إِلَى الْأُمَرَاءِ ! قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ ، أَوْ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَا يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ قَتَّاتٌ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The tale-bearer will not enter Paradise.
Hadith 23306
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بنُ أَبي بكَيْرٍ , حَدَّثَنَا عُبيْدُ اللَّهِ بنُ إِيَادِ بنِ لَقِيطٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَبي يَذْكُرُ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ ، قَالَ : سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنِ السَّاعَةِ ، فَقَالَ : " عِلْمُهَا عِنْدَ رَبي ، لَا يُجَلِّيهَا لِوَقْتِهَا إِلَّا هُوَ ، وَلَكِنْ أُخْبرُكُمْ بمَشَارِيطِهَا وَمَا يَكُونُ بيْنَ يَدَيْهَا ، إِنَّ بيْنَ يَدَيْهَا فِتْنَةً وَهَرْجًا " ، قَالُوا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، الْفِتْنَةُ قَدْ عَرَفْنَاهَا ، فَالْهَرْجُ مَا هُوَ ؟ قَالَ : " بلِسَانِ الْحَبشَةِ : الْقَتْلُ ، وَيُلْقَى بيْنَ النَّاسِ التَّنَاكُرُ ، فَلَا يَكَادُ أَحَدٌ أَنْ يَعْرِفَ أَحَدًا " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about the Day of Judgment. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Its knowledge is with my Lord; He alone will manifest it at its appointed time. However, I will tell you some of its signs and what will happen before it. Before the Day of Judgment, there will be tribulations and "Harj." The people asked, "O Messenger of Allah! We understand the meaning of tribulation, but what is meant by Harj?" The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: In the language of the people of Habasha, it means killing. And estrangement will spread among people, and no one will recognize anyone.
Hadith 23307
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبةُ ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ ، عَنْ رِبعِيٍّ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَجُلًا فِي جِنَازَةِ حُذَيْفَةَ ، يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ صَاحِب هَذَا السَّرِيرِ يَقُولُ : مَا بي بأْسٌ مَا سَمِعْتُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " وَلَئِنْ اقْتَتَلْتُمْ لَأَدْخُلَنَّ بيْتِيَ ، فَلَئِنْ دُخِلَ عَلَيَّ لَأَقُولَنَّ : هَا ، بؤْ بإِثْمِي وَإِثْمِكَ " .
Rubay’i (rah) says that I heard a man at the funeral of Hazrat Hudhaifa (ra) saying: I heard from this person lying on the bier that I heard this hadith from the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him): I do not feel any hesitation that if you people start fighting, I will enter my house, and if anyone comes into my house, I will say to him: Come and return with my sin and your own sin.
Hadith 23308
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنُ بنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ ، عَنْ أَبي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ عَبدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بنِ يَزِيدَ ، قَالَ : أَتَيْنَا حُذَيْفَةَ ، فَقُلْنَا : دُلَّنَا عَلَى أَقْرَب النَّاسِ برَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ هَدْيًا ، وَسَمْتًا ، وَوَلَاءً ، نَأْخُذْ عَنْهُ وَنَسْمَعْ مِنْهُ ، فَقَالَ : " كَانَ من أَقْرَب النَّاسِ برَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ هَدْيًا ، وَسَمْتًا ، وَدَلًّا ، ابنُ أُمِّ عَبدٍ ، حَتَّى يَتَوَارَى عَنِّي فِي بيْتِهِ ، وَلَقَدْ عَلِمَ الْمَحْفُوظُونَ مِنْ أَصْحَاب مُحَمَّدٍ عَلَيْهِ الصَّلَاة وَالسَّلَامُ أَنَّ ابنَ أُمِّ عَبدٍ مِنْ أَقْرَبهِمْ إِلَى اللَّهِ زُلْفَةً " .
Abdur Rahman bin Yazid says that once we went to Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) and said to him, "Tell us of a person who is the closest to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in manners and character, so that we may learn these ways from him and listen to his words." He replied, "The one who was closest to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in manners and character was Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), to the extent that he would sit in his house hiding from me, even though the trusted companions of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) know that Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) was the closest of all to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)."
Hadith 23309
حَدَّثَنَا عَبدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَخْبرَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبي وَائِلٍ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ ، قَالَ : " قَامَ فِينَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَقَامًا مَا تَرَكَ فِيهِ شَيْئًا يَكُونُ قَبلَ السَّاعَةِ إِلَّا قَدْ ذَكَرَهُ ، حَفِظَهُ مَنْ حَفِظَهُ ، وَنَسِيَهُ مَنْ نَسِيَهُ " ، إِنِّي لَأَرَى الشَّيْءَ فَأَذْكُرُهُ كَمَا يَعْرِفُ الرَّجُلُ وَجْهَ الرَّجُلِ غَاب عَنْهُ ، ثُمَّ رَآهُ فَعَرَفَهُ.
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood among us and did not leave out any event that would occur until the Day of Judgment without mentioning it right there while standing. Whoever remembered it, remembered it, and whoever forgot it, forgot it. And I see many such things which I had forgotten, but when I see them, I recognize them, just as a man is absent and another man recognizes him by his face when he sees him.
Hadith 23310
حَدَّثَنَا عَبدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَخْبرَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ ، عَنْ إِبرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ هَمَّامٍ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ ، قَالَ : كَانَ رَجُلٌ يَرْفَعُ إِلَى عُثْمَانَ الْأَحَادِيثَ مِنْ حُذَيْفَةَ ، قَالَ حُذَيْفَةُ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " لَا يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ قَتَّاتٌ " ، يَعْنِي نَمَّامًا.
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifah bin Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: The tale-bearer will not enter Paradise.
Hadith 23311
حَدَّثَنَا عَبدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ سَعِدِ بنِ عُبيْدَةَ ، عَنْ صِلَةَ بنِ زُفَرَ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ ، أَنّ النَّبيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ إِذَا مَرَّ بآيَةِ خَوْفٍ تَعَوَّذَ ، وَإِذَا مَرَّ بآيَةِ رَحْمَةٍ سَأَلَ ، قَالَ : وَكَانَ النَّبيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا رَكَعَ قال : " سُبحَانَ رَبيَ الْعَظِيمِ " ، وَإِذَا سَجَدَ قَالَ : " سُبحَانَ رَبيَ الْأَعْلَى " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I prayed with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Noble Prophet would say "Subhana Rabbiyal Azeem" in his bowing (ruku) and "Subhana Rabbiyal A'la" in his prostration (sajda). Whenever he passed by a verse mentioning mercy, he would pause and supplicate, and whenever he passed by a verse mentioning punishment, he would pause and seek refuge from it.
Hadith 23312
حَدَّثَنَا عَبدُ اللَّهِ بنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا رَزِينٌ الْجُهَنِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبو الرُّقَادِ ، قَالَ : خَرَجْتُ مَعَ مَوْلَايَ وَأَنَا غُلَامٌ ، فَدُفِعْتُ إِلَى حُذَيْفَةَ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ : " إِنْ كَانَ الرَّجُلُ لَيَتَكَلَّمُ بالْكَلِمَةِ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَيَصِيرُ مُنَافِقًا ، وَإِنِّي لَأَسْمَعُهَا مِنْ أَحَدِكُمْ فِي الْمَقْعَدِ الْوَاحِدِ أَرْبعَ مَرَّاتٍ ، لَتَأْمُرُنَّ بالْمَعْرُوفِ وَلَتَنْهَوُنَّ عَنِ الْمُنْكَرِ ، وَلَتَحَاضُّنَّ عَلَى الْخَيْرِ ، أَوْ لَيُسْحِتَنَّكُمْ اللَّهُ جَمِيعًا بعَذَاب ، أَوْ لَيُؤَمِّرَنَّ عَلَيْكُمْ شِرَارَكُمْ ، ثُمَّ يَدْعُو خِيَارُكُمْ ، فَلَا يُسْتَجَاب لَكُمْ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that in the blessed era of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), sometimes a person would utter a sentence and because of it become a hypocrite, and now in a single gathering I hear dozens of such words daily. You people should continue to enjoin good and forbid evil, otherwise Allah will inflict such a punishment upon you that you will pray to Allah but your prayers will not be accepted.
Hadith 23313
حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بنُ عَمْرٍو ، حَدَّثَنَا زَائِدَةُ ، عَنْ حصين ، عَنْ شَقِيقٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ حُذَيْفَةَ ، قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " إِذَا قَامَ لِلتَّهَجُّدِ يَشُوصُ فَاهُ بالسِّوَاكِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa bin Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would wake up at night, the first thing he would do was use the miswak.
Hadith 23314
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بنُ عَبدِ الْمَلِكِ بنِ أَبي غَنِيَّةَ , حَدَّثَنَا أَبي ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ ، عَنْ عَبدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بنِ أَبي لَيْلَى ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " لَا تَشْرَبوا فِي الذَّهَب وَلَا فِي الْفِضَّةِ ، وَلَا تَلْبسُوا الْحَرِيرَ وَالدِّيباجَ ، فَإِنَّهَا لَهُمْ فِي الدُّنْيَا ، وَهِيَ لَكُمْ فِي الْآخِرَةِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade wearing silk and brocade and using gold and silver utensils, and said: "These things are for the disbelievers in this world and for us in the Hereafter."
Hadith 23315
حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبةُ ، عَنْ عَدِيِّ بنِ ثَابتٍ ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بنِ وَهْب ، عَنْ ثَابتِ ابنِ وَدِيعَةَ ، أَنَّ رَجُلًا مِنْ بنِي فَزَارَةَ أَتَى النَّبيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بضِباب قَدْ احْتَرَشَهَا ، قَالَ : فَجَعَلَ يُقَلِّب ضَبا مِنْهَا بيْنَ يَدَيْهِ ، فَقَالَ : " أُمَّةٌ مُسِخَتْ " ، قَالَ : وَأَكْبرُ عِلْمِي أَنَّهُ قَالَ : " مَا أَدْرِي مَا فَعَلَتْ " ، قَالَ : " وَمَا أَدْرِي لَعَلَّ هَذَا مِنْهَا " ، وقَالَ شُعْبةُ : وسَمِعْتُهُ ، وقَالَ حُصَيْنٌ : عَنْ زَيْدِ بنِ وَهْب ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ ، قَالَ : وَذَكَرَ شَيْئًا نَحْوًا مِنْ هَذَا ، قَالَ : فَلَمْ يَأْمُرْ بهِ ، وَلَمْ يَنْهَ أَحَدًا.
It is narrated from Hazrat Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man brought several hunted lizards to the service of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned one of the lizards over and said, "The forms of a community were transformed; I do not know, perhaps this is the same."
Hadith 23316
حَدَّثَنَا أَبو دَاوُدَ ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَبي الطُّفَيْلِ ، قَالَ : انْطَلَقْتُ أَنَا وَعَمْرُو بنُ صُلَيْعٍ حَتَّى أَتَيْنَا حُذَيْفَةَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " إِنَّ هَذَا الْحَيَّ مِنْ مُضَرَ لَا تَدَعُ لِلَّهِ فِي الْأَرْضِ عَبدًا صَالِحًا إِلَّا أفَتَنَتْهُ وَأَهْلَكَتْهُ ، حَتَّى يُدْرِكَهَا اللَّهُ بجُنُودٍ مِنْ عِبادِهِ ، فَيُذِلَّهَا حَتَّى لَا تَمْنَعَ ذَنَب تَلْعَةٍ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: The tribe of Mudar will not leave on earth any righteous servant of Allah without putting him into trial and destroying him, until Allah will impose upon them an army of His that will humiliate them, and not even the side of a mound will be able to save them.
Hadith 23317
حَدَّثَنَا عَبدُ الصَّمَدِ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ ، عَنْ زِرٍّ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " بيْنَ حَوْضِي كَمَا بيْنَ أَيْلَةَ وَمُضَرَ ، آنِيَتُهُ أَكْثَرُ ، أَوْ قَالَ : مِثْلُ عَدَدِ نُجُومِ السَّمَاءِ ، مَاؤُهُ أَحْلَى مِنَ الْعَسَلِ ، وَأَشَدُّ بيَاضًا مِنَ اللَّبنِ ، وَأَبرَدُ مِنَ الثَّلْجِ ، وَأَطْيَب مِنَ الْمِسْكِ ، مَنْ شَرِب مِنْهُ لَمْ يَظْمَأْ بعْدَهُ " . .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The distance of my cistern is as much as between Aylah and Mudhar. Its vessels will be more numerous than the stars in the sky. Its water will be sweeter than honey, whiter than milk, colder than ice, and more fragrant than musk. Whoever drinks its water once will never feel thirsty again.
Hadith 23318
حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ ، عَنْ زِرٍّ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ ، قَالَ : مَا بيْنَ طَرَفَيْ حَوْضِ النَّبيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كأَيْلَةَ وَمُضَرَ ، فَذَكَرَهُ ، وَكَذَا قَالَ يُونُسُ ، كَمَا قَالَ عَفَّانُ.
The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain.
Hadith 23319
حَدَّثَنَا أَسْوَدُ بنُ عَامِرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبةُ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَبي نَضْرَةَ ، عَنْ قَيْسٍ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ لِعَمَّارٍ : أَرَأَيْتُمْ صَنِيعَكُمْ هَذَا الَّذِي صَنَعْتُمْ فِيمَا كَانَ مِنْ أَمْرِ عَلِيٍّ ، رَأْيًا رَأَيْتُمُوهُ ، أَمْ شَيْئًا عَهِدَ إِلَيْكُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ؟ فَقَالَ : لَمْ يَعْهَدْ إِلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ شَيْئًا لَمْ يَعْهَدْهُ إِلَى النَّاسِ كَافَّةً ، وَلَكِنَّ حُذَيْفَةَ أَخْبرَنِي , عَنِ النَّبيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " فِي أَصْحَابي اثْنَا عَشَرَ مُنَافِقًا ، مِنْهُمْ ثَمَانِيَةٌ لَا يَدْخُلُونَ الْجَنَّةَ حَتَّى يَلِجَ الْجَمَلُ فِي سَمِّ الْخِيَاطِ " .
Qais bin ‘Abadah (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I asked Hazrat ‘Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him), “O Abu al-Yaqzan! Tell me, is the matter in which you people have become involved your own opinion, or is it some advice from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)?” He replied, “The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not give us any special advice that he did not give to the general people. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘There will be twelve hypocrites in my Ummah. Of them, eight will be such that they will neither enter Paradise nor smell its fragrance until a camel enters the eye of a needle.’”
