حَدِيثُ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ
Hadith of al-Nu‘man ibn Bashir from the Prophet (peace be upon him)
Hadith 18427
حَدَّثَنَا بَهْز ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا سِمَاكُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُسَوِّينَا فِي الصُّفُوفِ ، كَمَا تُقَوَّمُ الْقِدَاحُ ، حَتَّى ظَنَّ أَنَّا قَدْ أَخَذْنَا ذَلِكَ عَنْهُ ، وَفَهِمْنَاهُ ، أَقْبَلَ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ بِوَجْهِهِ ، فَإِذَا رَجُلٌ مُنْتَبِذٌ بِصَدْرِهِ ، فَقَالَ : " لَتُسَوُّنَّ صُفُوفَكُمْ ، أَوْ لَيُخَالِفَنَّ اللَّهُ بَيْنَ وُجُوهِكُمْ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu’man (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to straighten the rows (in prayer) just as arrows are straightened in our rows. Once, when the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to say the takbeer, he saw that a man’s chest was protruding out. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Keep your rows straight, otherwise Allah will create discord among you.”
Hadith 18428
حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ، عَنْ زَائِدَةَ ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ ، عَنْ خَيْثَمَةَ ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " خَيْرُ النَّاسِ قَرْنِي الَّذِي أَنَا فِيهِ ، ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ، ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ، ثُمَّ يَأْتِي قَوْمٌ تَسْبِقُ شَهَادَتُهُمْ أَيْمَانَهُمْ وَأَيْمَانُهُمْ شَهَادَتَهُمْ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu'man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The best people are those of my generation, then those who come after them, then those who come after them, then those who come after them. After that, a people will come whose swearing will precede their testimony and whose testimony will precede their swearing.
Hadith 18429
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ . ح وَزَكَرِيَّا ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ . ح وَفِطْرٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي الضُّحَى ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، أَنَّ بَشِيرًا أَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَرَادَ أَنْ يَنْحَلَ النُّعْمَانَ نُحْلًا ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " هَلْ لَكَ مِنْ وَلَدٍ سِوَاهُ ؟ " قَالَ : نَعَمْ ، قَالَ : " فَكُلَّهُمْ أَعْطَيْتَ مَا أَعْطَيْتَهُ ؟ " قَالَ : لَا . قَالَ : فِطْرٌ فَقَالَ : لَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ هَكَذَا ، أَيْ : " سَوِّ بَيْنَهُمْ " وَقَالَ زَكَرِيَّا وَإِسْمَاعِيلُ : " لَا أَشْهَدُ عَلَى جَوْرٍ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him) that his father gave him a gift. My father went to the service of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked him, "Do you have other sons as well?" He said, "Yes." The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked, "Have you given all your sons the same as you have given to him?" He said, "No." So the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) refused to become a witness to it.
Hadith 18430
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا زَكَرِيَّا ، عَنْ أَبِي الْقَاسِمِ الْجَدَلِيِّ . قَالَ أَبِي : وَحَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا زَكَرِيَّا ، عَنْ حُسَيْنِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ أَبِي الْقَاسِمِ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ النُّعْمَانَ بْنَ بَشِيرٍ ، قَالَ : أَقْبَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِوَجْهِهِ عَلَى النَّاسِ ، فَقَالَ : " أَقِيمُوا صُفُوفَكُمْ ، ثَلَاثًا ، وَاللَّهِ لَتُقِيمُنَّ صُفُوفَكُمْ ، أَوْ لَيُخَالِفَنَّ اللَّهُ بَيْنَ قُلُوبِكُمْ " . قَالَ : فَرَأَيْتُ الرَّجُلَ يُلْزِقُ كَعْبَهُ بِكَعْبِ صَاحِبِهِ ، وَرُكْبَتَهُ بِرُكْبَتِهِ ، وَمَنْكِبَهُ بِمَنْكِبِهِ.
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned his blessed face towards the people and said three times, "Straighten your rows. By Allah! Either you straighten your rows or Allah will create discord among your hearts." Hazrat Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him) says that after that I used to see that a man would stand with his ankle joined to the ankle of his companion, his knee to the knee of his companion, and his shoulder to the shoulder of his companion.
Hadith 18431
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، ومِسْعَرٍ ، قَالَ . وَعَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْتَشِرِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ " يَقْرَأُ فِي الْعِيدَيْنِ وَالْجُمُعَةِ ب ِسَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى و َهَلْ أَتَاكَ حَدِيثُ الْغَاشِيَةِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite Surah Al-A'la and Surah Al-Ghashiyah in the Eid prayers and in Jumu'ah (Friday) prayer.
Hadith 18432
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ ذَرٍّ الْهَمْدَانِيِّ ، عَنْ يُسَيْعٍ ، عَنْ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّ الدُّعَاءَ هُوَ الْعِبَادَةُ " ، ثُمَّ قَرَأَ : وَقَالَ رَبُّكُمُ ادْعُونِي أَسْتَجِبْ لَكُمْ سورة غافر آية 60 " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Supplication is the essence of worship. Then the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: "Call upon Me; I will respond to your supplication."
Hadith 18433
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " الْمُؤْمِنُونَ كَرَجُلٍ وَاحِدٍ ، إِذَا اشْتَكَى رَأْسُهُ تَدَاعَى لَهُ سَائِرُ الْجَسَدِ بِالْحُمَّى وَالسَّهَرِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The example of the believers in their mutual love, compassion, and kindness is like that of a body; when one limb suffers, the whole body responds with sleeplessness and fever.
Hadith 18434
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، قَالَ خَيْثَمَةُ ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " الْمُؤْمِنُونَ كَرَجُلٍ وَاحِدٍ ، إِذَا اشْتَكَى رَأْسُهُ اشْتَكَى كُلُّهُ ، وَإِنْ اشْتَكَى عَيْنُهُ اشْتَكَى كُلُّهُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The example of a believer is like that of a body; if the head is in pain, the whole body feels the pain, and if the eye is in pain, the whole body feels the pain as well.
Hadith 18435
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ سِمَاكٍ ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِير ، قَالَ : صَلَّى بِنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَرَأَى رَجُلًا خَارِجًا صَدْرُهُ مِنَ الصَّفِّ ، فَقَالَ : " اسْتَوُوا ، وَلَا تَخْتَلِفُوا فَتَخْتَلِفَ قُلُوبُكُمْ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him) that once he came to lead us in prayer and saw a man whose chest was protruding out of the row. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Straighten yourselves, do not move forward or backward, otherwise differences will arise in your hearts as well."
Hadith 18436
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ ، وَالْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ ذَرٍّ ، عَنْ يُسَيْعٍ الْحَضْرَمِيِّ ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَخْطُبُ وَيَقُولُ : " إِنَّ الدُّعَاءَ هُوَ الْعِبَادَةُ " ، ثُمَّ قَرَأَ : وَقَالَ رَبُّكُمُ ادْعُونِي أَسْتَجِبْ لَكُمْ سورة غافر آية 60 " . .
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu’man (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Supplication is the essence of worship. Then the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: "Call upon Me; I will respond to your call." The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain of transmission.
Hadith 18437
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ ، عَنْ ذَرٍّ ، عَنْ يُسَيْعٍ الْحَضْرَمِيِّ ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : فَذَكَرَ نَحْوَهُ ، كَذَا قَالَ شُعْبَةُ مِثْلَهُ . قَالَ أَبُو عَبْد الرَّحْمَنِ : أُخْبِرْتُ أَنَّ أُسَيْعًا هُوَ : يُسَيْعُ بْنُ مَعْدَانَ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ.
Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, Shu'bah narrated to us, from Mansur, from Dharr, from Yusay' al-Hadrami, from al-Nu'man ibn Bashir, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: So he mentioned something similar to it, thus Shu'bah said likewise. Abu 'Abd al-Rahman said: I was informed that Usay' is Yusay' ibn Ma'dan al-Hadrami.
Hadith 18438
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكٌ ، عَنْ ضَمْرَةَ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، أَنَّ الضَّحَّاكَ بْنَ قَيْسٍ سَأَلَ النُّعْمَانَ بْنَ بَشِيرٍ : بِمَ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقْرَأُ فِي الْجُمُعَةِ مَعَ سُورَةِ الْجُمُعَةِ ؟ قَالَ : " هَلْ أَتَاكَ حَدِيثُ الْغَاشِيَةِ " .
Dhahhak bin Qais (may Allah have mercy on him) says that he asked Hazrat Nu'man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him): "Which surah did the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recite in the Friday prayer besides Surah Jumu'ah?" He replied: "Surah Ghashiyah."
Hadith 18439
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ، عَنْ يُونُسَ ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ ، أَنَّ النُّعْمَانَ بْنَ بَشِيرٍ كَتَبَ إِلَى قَيْسِ بْنِ الْهَيْثَمِ : إِنَّكُمْ إِخْوَانُنَا وَأَشِقَّاؤُنَا ، وَإِنَّا شَهِدْنَا ، وَلَمْ تَشْهَدُوا ، وَسَمِعْنَا ، وَلَمْ تَسْمَعُوا ، وَإِنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَقُولُ : " إِنَّ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ السَّاعَةِ فِتَنًا كَأَنَّهَا قِطَعُ اللَّيْلِ الْمُظْلِمِ ، يُصْبِحُ الرَّجُلُ فِيهَا مُؤْمِنًا ، وَيُمْسِي كَافِرًا ، وَيَبِيعُ فِيهَا أَقْوَامٌ خَلَاقَهُمْ بِعَرَضٍ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا " .
Hazrat Nu’man (may Allah be pleased with him) wrote to Qais bin Haitham in a letter that you people are our brothers, but we have been present at such occasions where you were not, and we have heard things that you have not heard. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say that before the Day of Judgment, tribulations will appear like the portions of a dark night. In that era, a man will be a Muslim in the morning and a disbeliever in the evening, or a Muslim in the evening and a disbeliever in the morning, and people will sell their religion and morals for a small portion of worldly goods.
Hadith 18440
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ سَالِمَ بْنَ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ النُّعْمَانَ بْنَ بَشِيرٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " لَتُسَوُّنَّ صُفُوفَكُمْ فِي صَلَاتِكُمْ ، أَوْ لَيُخَالِفَنَّ اللَّهُ بَيْنَ وُجُوهِكُمْ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu'man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "Keep your rows straight, otherwise Allah will create discord among you."
Hadith 18441
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، وَحَجَّاجٌ ، قَالاَ : حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ النُّعْمَانَ بْنَ بَشِيرٍ ، يَقُولُ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُسَوِّي الصَّفَّ حَتَّى يَجْعَلَهُ مِثْلَ الرُّمْحِ ، أَوْ الْقَدَحِ . قَالَ : فَرَأَى صَدْرَ رَجُلٍ نَاتِئًا ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " يَا عِبَادَ اللَّهِ ، لَتُسَوُّنَّ صُفُوفَكُمْ ، أَوْ لَيُخَالِفَنَّ اللَّهُ بَيْنَ وُجُوهِكُمْ " .

Hadith 18442
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، وَهَاشِمٌ ، قَالاَ : حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْتَشِرِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ هَاشِمٌ ، قَالَ يَعْنِي فِي حَدِيثِهِ : سَمِعْتُ أَبِي يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقْرَأُ فِي الْجُمُعَةِ قَالَ هَاشِمٌ : فِي صَلَاةِ الْجُمُعَةِ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ بِ سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى و َهَلْ أَتَاكَ حَدِيثُ الْغَاشِيَةِ ، وَرُبَّمَا اجْتَمَعَ عِيدَانِ ، فَقَرَأَ بِهِمَا " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite Surah Al-A'la and Surah Al-Ghashiyah in the Eid prayers, and if Eid fell on a Friday, he would recite these two Surahs in both prayers (Eid and Jumu'ah).
Hadith 18443
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ . وَحَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ الْأَحْوَلِ ، عَنْ أَبِي قِلَابَةِ ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، قَالَ : انْكَسَفَتْ الشَّمْسُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، " فَصَلَّى ، وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَرْكَعُ وَيَسْجُدُ " ، قَالَ حَجَّاجٌ : مِثْلَ صَلَاتِنَا .
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the occasion of a solar eclipse, the prayer was led in the same manner as you normally pray, and the bowing and prostration were also performed in the same way.
Hadith 18444
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ أَبِي بِشْرٍ ، عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ عُرْفُطَةَ ، عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ فِي الرَّجُلِ يَأْتِي جَارِيَةَ امْرَأَتِهِ ، قَالَ : " إِنْ كَانَتْ أَحَلَّتْهَا لَهُ ، جَلَدْتُهُ مِئَةً ، وَإِنْ لَمْ تَكُنْ أَحَلَّتْهَا لَهُ ، رَجَمْتُهُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him) that regarding the man who has intercourse with his wife's slave-girl, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If his wife has permitted him to benefit from her slave-girl, I will give him one hundred lashes, and if she has not permitted, I will have him stoned to death.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ بَكْرٍ ، قَالاَ : حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ ، قَالَ ابْنُ بَكْر مَوْلَى النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، أَنَّهُ رُفِعَ إِلَيْهِ رَجُلٌ غَشِيَ جَارِيَةَ امْرَأَتِهِ ، فَقَالَ : لَأَقْضِيَنَّ فِيهَا بِقَضِيَّةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنْ كَانَتْ أَحَلَّتْهَا لَكَ ، جَلَدْتُكَ مِائَةَ جَلْدَةٍ ، وَإِنْ كَانَتْ لَمْ تُحِلَّهَا لَكَ ، رَجَمْتُكَ " . قَالَ : فَوَجَدَهَا قَدْ كَانَتْ أَحَلَّتْهَا لَهُ ، فَجَلَدَهُ مِئَةً.
Habib bin Salim (may Allah have mercy on him) says that once a man was brought to Hazrat Nu’man (may Allah be pleased with him), whose wife had made it lawful for her husband to benefit from her slave-girl. He said, “I will give the same verdict regarding this as the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) did. If his wife has permitted him to benefit from her slave-girl, I will give him one hundred lashes, and if she has not permitted, I will stone him to death.” It was found that his wife had given permission, so he gave him one hundred lashes.
Hadith 18446
حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ ، عَنْ أَبِي بِشْرٍ ، عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، قَالَ : أَتَتْهُ امْرَأَةٌ ، فَقَالَتْ : إِنَّ زَوْجَهَا وَقَعَ عَلَى جَارِيَتِهَا ، قَالَ : أَمَا إِنَّ عِنْدِي فِي ذَلِكَ خَبَرًا شَافِيًا أَخَذْتُهُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنْ كُنْتِ أَذِنْتِ لَهُ ، ضَرَبْتُهُ مِئَة ، وَإِنْ كُنْتِ لَمْ تَأْذَنِي لَهُ ، رَجَمْتُهُ " . قَالَ : فَأَقْبَلَ النَّاسُ عَلَيْهَا ، فَقَالُوا : زَوْجُكِ يُرْجَمُ ، قُولِي إِنَّكِ قَدْ كُنْتِ أَذِنْتِ لَهُ ، فَقَالَتْ : قَدْ كُنْتُ أَذِنْتُ لَهُ ، فَقَدَّمَهُ ، فَضَرَبَهُ مئَةً.

Hadith 18447
حَدَّثَنَا أَسْوَدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ ، أَنْبَأَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ ، عَنْ خَيْثَمَةَ ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " خَيْرُ النَّاسِ قَرْنِي ، ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ، ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ، ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ، ثُمَّ يجيءُ قَوْمٌ تَسْبِقُ شَهَادَتُهُمْ أَيْمَانَهُمْ ، وَتَسْبِقُ أَيْمَانُهُمْ شَهَادَتَهُمْ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu'man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The best people are those of my generation, then those who come after them, then those who come after them, then those who come after them. After that, a people will come whose swearing will precede their testimony and whose testimony will precede their swearing.
Hadith 18448
قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ : حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ عَاصِمِ بْنِ الْمُنْذِرِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ ، حَدَّثَنَا سَلَّامٌ أَبُو الْمُنْذِرِ الْقَارِي ، حَدَّثَنَا عَاصِمُ بْنُ بَهْدَلَةَ ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ أَوْ خَيْثَمَةَ ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّمَا مَثَلُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ كَالرَّجُلِ الْوَاحِدِ ، إِذَا وَجِعَ مِنْهُ شَيْءٌ ، تَدَاعَى لَهُ سَائِرُ جَسَدِهِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The example of a believer is like that of a body; if the head is in pain, the whole body feels the pain.
Hadith 18449
قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ حَدَّثَنَا مَنْصُورُ بْنُ أَبِي مُزَاحِمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو وَكِيعٍ الْجَرَّاحُ بْنُ مَلِيحٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ : " مَنْ لَمْ يَشْكُرْ الْقَلِيلَ ، لَمْ يَشْكُرْ الْكَثِيرَ ، وَمَنْ لَمْ يَشْكُرْ النَّاسَ لَمْ يَشْكُرْ اللَّهَ ، التَّحَدُّثُ بِنِعْمَةِ اللَّهِ شُكْرٌ ، وَتَرْكُهَا كُفْرٌ ، وَالْجَمَاعَةُ رَحْمَةٌ ، وَالْفُرْقَةُ عَذَابٌ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu'man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) once said from the pulpit: "He who does not thank for a little, does not thank for much. He who does not thank people, does not thank Allah. Mentioning the blessings and favors of Allah is gratitude; neglecting them is ingratitude. Unity is mercy and division is punishment."
Hadith 18450
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ عَبْدِ ربه مَوْلَى بَنِي هَاشِمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو وَكِيعٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، قَال : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى هَذِهِ الْأَعْوَادِ ، أَوْ عَلَى هَذَا الْمِنْبَرِ : " مَنْ لَمْ يَشْكُرْ الْقَلِيلَ ، لَمْ يَشْكُرْ الْكَثِيرَ ، وَمَنْ لَمْ يَشْكُرْ النَّاسَ ، لَمْ يَشْكُرْ اللَّهَ ، وَالتَّحَدُّثُ بِنِعْمَةِ اللَّهِ شُكْرٌ ، وَتَرْكُهَا كُفْرٌ ، وَالْجَمَاعَةُ رَحْمَةٌ ، وَالْفُرْقَةُ عَذَابٌ " . قَالَ : فَقَالَ أَبُو أُمَامَةَ الْبَاهِلِيُّ : عَلَيْكُمْ بِالسَّوَادِ الْأَعْظَمِ ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ : مَا السَّوَادُ الْأَعْظَمُ ؟ فَقَالَ أَبُو أُمَامَة : هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ فِي سُورَةِ النُّورِ : فَإِنْ تَوَلَّوْا فَإِنَّمَا عَلَيْهِ مَا حُمِّلَ وَعَلَيْكُمْ مَا حُمِّلْتُمْ سورة النور آية 54.
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu'man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) once said from the pulpit: "He who does not thank for a little, does not thank for much. Hadith 18451
قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ الْقَوَارِيرِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ زَيْدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَاجِبُ بْنُ الْمُفَضَّلِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ الْمُهَلَّبِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " قَارِبُوا بَيْنَ أَبْنَائِكُمْ " . يَعْنِي : سَوُّوا بَيْنَهُمْ.
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu'man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Be just among your children.
Hadith 18452
قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْبَاهِلِيُّ ، وَعُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ الْقَوَارِيرِيُّ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الْمُقَدَّمِيُّ ، قَالُوا : حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ حَاجِبِ بْنِ الْمُفَضَّلِ بْنِ الْمُهَلَّبِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ النُّعْمَانَ بْنَ بَشِيرٍ يَقُولُ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " اعْدِلُوا بَيْنَ أَبْنَائِكُمْ ، اعْدِلُوا بَيْنَ أَبْنَائِكُمْ ، اعْدِلُوا بَيْنَ أَبْنَائِكُمْ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu'man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Be just among your children.
