It is narrated from Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever drinks alcohol, flog him. If he drinks again, flog him again. Even if he drinks a fourth time, then kill him."

Yazid bin Jariyah (may Allah have mercy on him) says that once he was sitting with some Ansari people when Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) arrived and asked about the topic of discussion. The people informed him that they were talking about the Ansar. Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Shall I not narrate to you a hadith to increase your knowledge, which I heard from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)?" The people said, "Why not, O Commander of the Faithful!" He said, "I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Whoever loves the Ansar, Allah loves him, and whoever harbors enmity towards the Ansar, Allah harbors enmity towards him."
Abdullah bin Ali says that once I heard Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) on the pulpit in Makkah Mukarramah saying that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade men from wearing gold and silk.

Jarir says that I heard Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) saying during a sermon that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away, he was sixty-three years old; when Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away, he was also sixty-three years old; when Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away, he was also sixty-three years old; and now I too have reached sixty-three years of age.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "When Allah intends good for a servant, He grants him understanding of the religion."
He said, Abdullah said: I found this statement at the end of this hadith, in the book of my father in his own handwriting, connected to it, and he had marked over it, so I do not know whether he read it to me or not: "And indeed, the obedient listener has no argument against him, and indeed, the disobedient listener has no argument for him."
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever dies without having pledged allegiance to an Imam, dies the death of ignorance."

Abu Shaykh Hanai says that in the year of Hajj, Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) gathered some of the noble Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) in the House of Allah and said: "I will ask you about some matters, so please answer me." Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) asked them, "I ask you by Allah, do you know that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade wearing silk?" They replied, "Yes!" Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "I also bear witness to this." Then he said, "I ask you by Allah, do you know that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade men from wearing gold except a little?" They said, "Yes!" Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "I also bear witness to this." Then he said, "I ask you by Allah, do you know that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade riding on a leopard's skin?" They said, "Yes!" He said, "I also bear witness to this."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) that after finishing the prayer, I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saying these words: "Whomever You give, none can withhold from him, and whomever You withhold from, none can give to him, and the honor of the honorable cannot benefit him before You."
Jarir says that I heard Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) saying during a sermon that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away, he was sixty-three years old. When Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away, he was also sixty-three years old. When Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away, he was also sixty-three years old. And now I have reached sixty-three years of age.
Humaid says that he once heard Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) in Madinah Munawwarah during a sermon saying: O people of Madinah! Where have your scholars gone? I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: This is the day of Ashura, fasting on it is not obligatory upon us, so whoever among you wishes to fast may do so, and I am fasting. Upon this, the people also fasted. Then he took a bunch of hair in his hands and said: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbidding such things and saying that punishment came upon the Children of Israel only when their women made this their occupation.
And I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, forbidding something like this, and he took out a lock of hair from his sleeve and said: "The children of Israel were only destroyed when their women took to such things."
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not perform bowing (ruku) or prostration (sajdah) before me, because when I bow before you, you will catch up with me in bowing before I raise my head, and when I prostrate before you, you will catch up with me in prostration before I raise my head. I am saying this because now my body has become heavy."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saying: "Do not cling to someone when asking him (so that you do not leave him alone). By Allah! Whoever asks me for something and necessity has compelled him to ask, then he will be granted blessing (in the gift received from me)."
Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) once said these words on the pulpit: O Allah! No one can withhold what You give, and no one can give what You withhold, and the honor of an honorable person cannot benefit him before You. Allah the Pure, when He intends good for someone, grants him understanding of the religion. I heard these words from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) on this very pulpit.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) that I cut the hair of the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) head at Marwah with the scissors that I had with me.
Alqamah bin Waqas (may Allah have mercy on him) says that once we were with Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) when the muezzin began to give the adhan. Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) also began to repeat the same words. When he said «حي على الصلوة», he said «لا حول ولا قوة الا بالله», and in response to «حي على الفلاح», he said the same. After that, he continued to repeat the words of the muezzin. Then he said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would also do the same when the muezzin gave the adhan.

Abu al-Tufail, may Allah have mercy on him, says that once Sayyiduna Muawiyah, may Allah be pleased with him, and Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, came to the Sacred Sanctuary of Mecca. Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, performed Tawaf and touched all the corners of the Kaaba. Sayyiduna Muawiyah, may Allah be pleased with him, said to him, "The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, only touched two corners." Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, replied, "No corner of the Kaaba is to be neglected."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Whatever pain reaches a Muslim in his body, Allah Almighty, through it, expiates his sins.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) cursed those who speak in an affected manner like reciting poetry.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) forbade men from wearing gold, except if it is something very small.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) himself used to recite the testimony (tashahhud) along with the muezzin.
Mu'abad Juhani says that Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) would very rarely narrate any hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), but he would often mention these words from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in many gatherings: "When Allah intends good for someone, He grants him understanding of the religion. And the wealth of this world is very sweet and lush; so whoever takes it rightfully, there is blessing in it for him. And beware of praising someone to his face, for that is like slaughtering him."
The previous hadith is also narrated from Yaqub (and in it, instead of «مدح», the word «تمادح» is used, the meaning of both is the same, that is) avoid praising someone to his face because it is like slaughtering that person.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “‘Umra’ is permissible for the person for whom it is made.”
Abu Hind Bajali says that once we were with Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him), who was sitting on his throne with his eyes closed. We began to discuss Hijrah. Some among us thought that Hijrah had ended, while others thought that Hijrah had not ended. Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) became alert and said: "What are you talking about?" We informed him. He would rarely attribute anything to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: "Once we also discussed this with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Hijrah will not end until repentance ends, and repentance will not end until the sun rises from the west.'"
