It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Horses are of three kinds: some horses belong to the Most Merciful, some to man, and some to Satan. The horse of the Most Merciful is the one that is tied in the way of Allah; its fodder, its dung, its urine, and other things (all are for Allah and a person is rewarded for them). The horse of Satan is the one on which gambling is done or it is kept as a pledge. And the horse of man is the one which a person ties for seeking livelihood to fill his belly, and it saves him from poverty and hunger."
