حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ , قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي جَعْفَرُ بْنُ كَيْسَانَ , قَالَ : حَدَّثَتْنِي مُعَاذَةُ ، قَالَتْ : سَمِعْتُ عَائِشَةَ ، تَقُولُ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " فَنَاءُ أُمَّتِي بِالطَّعْنِ وَالطَّاعُونِ " , قَالَتْ : فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ , هَذَا الطَّعْنُ قَدْ عَرَفْنَاهُ , فَمَا الطَّاعُونُ ؟ قَالَ : " غُدَّةٌ كَغُدَّةِ الْإِبِلِ , الْمُقِيمُ فِيهَا كَالشَّهِيدِ , وَالْفَارُّ مِنْهَا كَالْفَارِّ مِنَ الزَّحْفِ " .
Mu’adhah ‘Adawiyyah says that once I was present in the service of Hazrat ‘A’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her), so she said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “My ummah will only be destroyed by spear fighting and plague.” I asked, “O Messenger of Allah! We understand the meaning of spear fighting, but what is meant by plague?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “It is a swelling that resembles the swelling of a camel. Whoever remains steadfast in it will be like a martyr, and whoever flees from it will be like one who flees from the battlefield.”
