Hadith 24039

حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَوْنٍ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ ، قَالَ : ذَكَرُوا عِنْدَ عَائِشَةَ أَنَّ عَلِيًّا كَانَ وَصِيًّا ، فَقَالَتْ : " مَتَى أَوْصَى إِلَيْهِ ؟ فَقَدْ كُنْتُ مُسْنِدَتَهُ إِلَى صَدْرِي ، أَوْ قَالَتْ : فِي حِجْرِي ، فَدَعَا بِالطَّسْتِ ، فَلَقَدْ انْخَنَثَ فِي حِجْرِي وَمَا شَعَرْتُ أَنَّهُ مَاتَ ، فَمَتَى أَوْصَى إِلَيْهِ ؟ " .
Aswad says that once some people mentioned before Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had appointed Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) as his executor (wasiyy). She said, "When did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) appoint him as his executor? I was supporting the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) against my chest. He asked for a basin, and ultimately his soul departed in my lap, and I did not even realize that he had passed away. So when did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) appoint him as his executor?"
