حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الطُّفَاوِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَت : " مَا ضَرَبَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَادِمًا لَهُ قَطُّ وَلَا امْرَأَةً لَهُ قَطُّ ، وَلَا ضَرَبَ بِيَدِهِ إِلَّا أَنْ يُجَاهِدَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ، وَمَا نِيلَ مِنْهُ شَيئًا فَانْتَقَمَهُ مِنْ صَاحِبِهِ إِلَّا أَنْ تُنْتَهَكَ مَحَارِمُ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فَيَنْتَقِمُ لِلَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ ، وَمَا عُرِضَ عَلَيْهِ أَمْرَانِ أَحَدُهُمَا أَيْسَرُ مِنَ الْآخَرِ إِلَّا أَخَذَ بِأَيْسَرِهِمَا ، إِلَّا أَنْ يَكُونَ مَأْثَمًا ، فَإِنْ كَانَ مَأْثَمًا كَانَ أَبْعَدَ النَّاسِ مِنْهُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) never struck any servant or any wife, nor did he ever hit anyone with his own hand except when he was fighting in the way of Allah. If anyone committed insolence against the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he never took revenge on that person, but if the sanctities of Allah were violated, he would take revenge for the sake of Allah. And whenever two options were presented before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and one of them was easier, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would choose the easier one, unless it was a sin, because if it was a sin, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would keep away from it more than anyone else.
