حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ يَعْنِي الشَّافِعِيّ ، أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ زَيْدِ بْنِ جُدْعَانَ ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ ، عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ : أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ , قَالَ : أَنْشُدُ اللَّهَ رَجُلًا سَمِعَ مِنَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الْجَدِّ شَيْئًا , فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ , فَقَالَ : " شَهِدْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَعْطَاهُ الثُّلُثَ " , قَالَ : مَعَ مَنْ ؟ قَالَ : لَا أَدْرِي , قَالَ : لَا دَرَيْتَ ! .
It is narrated from Hazrat Imran (may Allah be pleased with him) that once Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I put under oath the person who has heard anything from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding the inheritance of the grandfather, that he should inform us." Upon hearing this, a man stood up and said: "I bear witness that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him one third." Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: "Is there anyone else with you?" He replied: "I do not know." Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Then you do not know anything."
