حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، وَبَهْزٌ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ حَبِيبٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الْمِنْهَالِ ، قَالَ بَهْزٌ : أَخْبَرَنِي حَبِيبُ بْنُ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الْمِنْهَالِ رَجُلًا مِنْ بَنِي كِنَانَةَ ، قَالَ : سَأَلْتُ الْبَرَاءَ بْنَ عَازِبٍ ، عَنِ الصَّرْفِ ، فَقَالَ : سَلْ زَيْدَ بْنَ أَرْقَمَ ، فَإِنَّهُ خَيْرٌ مِنِّي وَأَعْلَمُ ، قَالَ : فَسَأَلْتُ زَيْدًا ، فَقَالَ : سَلِ الْبَرَاءَ ، فَإِنَّهُ خَيْرٌ مِنِّي وَأَعْلَمُ ، قَالَ : فَقَالَا جَمِيعًا : نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ بَيْعِ الْوَرِقِ بِالذَّهَبِ دَيْنًا .
Abu Minhal (may Allah have mercy on him) says that I asked Hazrat Bara bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) and Hazrat Zaid bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) about the exchange transaction (Bay' Sarf). They said, "Ask him, he knows better and is more knowledgeable than me," and he said, "Ask him, he knows better and is more knowledgeable than me." In any case, both of them said that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the deferred sale and purchase of silver in exchange for gold.
