Hadith 19279

Atiyyah Awfi says that once I presented myself before Hazrat Zaid bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) and said to him that one of my sons-in-law has narrated to me the hadith regarding the excellence of Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) on the occasion of Ghadir Khumm, attributing it to you. I wish to hear it directly from you. He replied, "O people of Iraq! I fear from you." I said, "You need not worry about me." He said, "Alright, once we were at the place of Juhfa at the time of Zuhr, when the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to us holding the hand of Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and said, 'O people! Do you not know that I have more right over the believers than their own selves?' The companions (may Allah be pleased with them) replied, 'Why not.' Then the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) pressed the hand of Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and said, 'Whoever I am the beloved of, Ali should also be his beloved.' I asked, 'Did the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say, O Allah! Love those who love Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and be the enemy of those who are hostile to him?' He replied, 'I have told you what I heard.'"
