Hadith 18293

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ، حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ ، عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ هِلَالٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ تُوبُوا إِلَى اللَّهِ وَاسْتَغْفِرُوهُ ، فَإِنِّي أَتُوبُ إِلَى اللَّهِ وَأَسْتَغْفِرُهُ فِي كُلِّ يَوْمٍ مِائَةَ مَرَّة " . فَقُلْتُ لَهُ : اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ اثْنَتَانِ أَمْ وَاحِدَةٌ ؟ فَقَالَ : " هُوَ ذَاكَ " أَوْ نَحْوَ هَذَا.
It is narrated from a Companion (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O people! Keep repenting to your Lord, and I myself repent to Him a hundred times in a day. I asked him, "Are 'Allahumma inni astaghfiruka' and 'Allahumma inni atubu ilaik' two separate things or the same?" The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: They are the same.
