It is narrated from Sayyiduna Waleed bin ‘Ubadah that we pledged allegiance to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on the condition that we would listen to and obey the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in hardship and ease, in cheerfulness and reluctance, and even when others are given preference over us. We would not dispute with those who are rightfully in authority in any matter, and we would remain steadfast upon the truth wherever we may be, and we would not fear the blame of any blamer in the matter of Allah. The narrator of the hadith, Shu’bah, says that Sayyar did not mention the phrase “wherever we may be,” but Yahya did mention it, and whatever I have mentioned in this narration is either from Sayyar or from Yahya.
