It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that among the Quraysh who prepared the peace treaty with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was Suhail bin Amr. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), "Write: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful." Upon this, Suhail said, "We do not know 'In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful'; write what we also know: 'In Your name, O Allah.'" Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Write: From Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)." Suhail said, "If we considered you the Messenger of Allah, we would follow you. Write your name and your father's name." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Write: From Muhammad, son of Abdullah." In this treaty, the polytheists also set this condition with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that whoever from your side comes to us, we will not return him, but whoever from our side comes to you, you will return him to us. Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) submitted, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Should we also write this condition?" He replied, "Yes! Whoever from us goes to them, may Allah keep him away from us."
