It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Saeed (may Allah be pleased with him) or Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went on the expedition of Tabuk. There, the Muslims were afflicted by hunger and were surrounded by a severe need for food. They asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for permission to slaughter their camels. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) granted them permission. When Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) learned of this, he came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), in this way the mounts will become scarce. Please ask them to bring whatever provisions they have in scattered form, and pray to Allah for blessing in it." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) accepted his opinion and had the scattered items that were in the provisions brought. Thus, one person brought a handful of barley, another brought a handful of pieces. When some things were gathered on the dining cloth, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed to Allah for blessing in it and said, "Bring your own vessels." Everyone's vessels were filled, and all the people ate to their fill, and a large quantity was left over. Upon this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "I bear witness that there is no deity except Allah and that I am Allah's servant and His Messenger. Whoever meets Allah with these two testimonies and has no doubt in them will enter Paradise."
