Hadith 1094

ahadeeth bin Jandub reported Muhammad (ﷺ) as saying. The call of Bilal (RA) may not mislead any one of you (and he may, under the wrong impression gathered from it), refrain from taking meal before the commencement of the fast (for the streaks) of this whiteness (which are vertical) indicate the false dawn and the true dawn with which the fast commences is that when the streaks of light are spread.

ahadeeth bin Jundub reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: The Adhan of Bilal (RA) should not mislead you nor the whiteness (of the pillar) of dawn, for it is not the whiteness of the true dawn, but that of the false dawn which is vertical like a pillar and you can eat food till the streaks of whiteness spread like it.

ahadeeth bin Jundub (RA) reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: The Adhan of Bilal (RA) may not mislead you with regard to your food at the commencement of the fast, nor the vertical (streaks) of whiteness in the horizon (for it is an indication of false dawn). You should stop eating (food) till (the whiteness) spreads like it. Hammad narrated it and with the gesture of his hand he explained, the horizontal position (of the streaks of light).

Hafiz Muhammad Ameen
The adhan of Bilal (radi Allahu anhu) was neither for tahajjud (late night prayer), because there is no adhan for voluntary prayers (nawafil), nor was it for suhur (pre-dawn meal), because the adhan is for prayer, not for eating and drinking. Rather, it was for the Fajr prayer itself, but somewhat before its time. However, from this adhan, a person could benefit for tahajjud or suhur, just as one benefits from the Maghrib adhan for breaking the fast (iftar). In the time of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), although there was not much interval between these two adhans, since this interval is not fixed, it can also be longer.

Benefits and Issues:
There are two types of dawn: false dawn (fajr kadhdhib) and true dawn (fajr sadiq).
During the false dawn, the pre-dawn meal (suhoor) is eaten, and as soon as the true dawn begins, the time for suhoor ends.
Bilal radi Allahu anhu used to give the call to prayer (adhan) during the false dawn to alert the people.
In the false dawn, at first the whiteness (light) rises vertically towards the sky, then soon after, the whiteness appears again and spreads across the horizon, and this is the true dawn (fajr sadiq).
