Hadith 39725
٣٩٧٢٥ - (حدثنا أبو بكر قال) (١): (حدثنا) (٢) سفيان بن عيينة عن عمرو عن أبي العباس عن عبد اللَّه بن عمرو (و) (٣) قال مرة: عن ابن عمر قال: حاصر رسول اللَّه ﷺ أهل الطائف فلم ينل منهم شيئًا، فقال: "إنا قافلون غدا"، فقال المسلمون: (نرجع) (٤) ولم نفتتحه، فقال رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "اغدوا على القتال"، فغدوا، (فأصابتهم) (٥) جراح فقال رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "إنا قافلون غدا"، فأعجبهم ذلك، فضحك رسول اللَّه ﷺ (٦) (٧).
It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) besieged the people of Ta’if, but none of them came into his hands. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “We will return tomorrow.” The Muslims said, “We will return even though we have not conquered it?” Upon this, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “(Go ahead) fight in the morning as well.” So the companions fought in the morning, but they themselves were wounded. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “We will depart tomorrow.” This pleased the companions, and upon this, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) smiled.
Hadith 39726
٣٩٧٢٦ - حدثنا عبيد اللَّه بن موسى عن طلحة بن (جبر) (١) عن المطلب بن عبد اللَّه عن مصعب بن عبد الرحمن (عن عبد الرحمن) (٢) بن عوف قال: لما افتتح رسول اللَّه ﷺ مكة انصرف إلى الطائف، فحاصرهم تسع عشرة أو ثماني عشرة فلم ⦗٧١⦘ يفتتحها، ثم (أوغل) (٣) روحة أو غدوة، (فنزل) (٤) (ثم هجّر) (٥)، ثم قال: "أيها الناس، إني فرط لكم فأوصيكم بعترتي خيرا، (وإن) (٦) موعدكم الحوض، والذي نفسي بيده (ليقيمن) (٧) الصلاة (وليؤتن) (٨) الزكاة أو لأبعثن إليهم رجلا مني أو كنفسي (فليضربن) (٩) أعناق مقاتلتهم وليسبين ذراريهم"، (قال) (١٠): (فرأى) (١١) الناس أنه أبو بكر (أو عمر) (١٢)، فأخذ بيد علي (١٣) فقال: "هذا" (١٤).
Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Auf narrates that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) conquered Makkah, he set out towards Taif and besieged the people of Taif for eighteen or nineteen (days), but could not conquer Taif. Then, one morning or one evening, he intensified the siege. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) camped, and at midday he set out and said: O people! I will reach (the destination) before you, so I advise you to goodness with my honor. And know for sure that the place of my promise with you is the Hawd (the Pond). By the One in Whose hand is my soul, you must establish prayer and you must pay zakat, or I will send to you one man from among myself, like myself, who will strike the necks of those who fight (the believers) and will take their people captive. The narrator says: People thought that this man would be Hazrat Abu Bakr or Hazrat Umar. But the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took the hand of Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: This is the man.
Hadith 39727
٣٩٧٢٧ - حدثنا عبد الوهاب الثقفي عن عبد اللَّه بن عثمان بن (خثيم) (١) عن أبي الزبير أن رسول اللَّه ﷺ حاصر (أهل) (٢) الطائف، (٣) (فجاءه) (٤) أصحابه ⦗٧٢⦘ (فقالوا) (٥): يا رسول اللَّه (أحرقتنا) (٦) نبال ثقيف، فادع اللَّه عليهم، فقال: "اللهم اهد ثقيفا" -مرتين، قال: وجاءته خولة فقال: إني نبئت أن بنت خزاعة ذات حُلي، فنفلني حليها (إن) (٧) (فتح) (٨) اللَّه عليك الطائف غدا، قال: "إن لم يكن أذن لنا في قتالهم؟ " [فقال رجل - (نراه) (٩) عمر-: يا رسول اللَّه ما مقامك على قوم لم (يؤذن) (١٠) لك في قتالهم؟] (١١) قال: "فأذن في الناس بالرحيل"، فنزل الجعرانة، فقسم بها غنائم حنين، ثم دخل منها بعمرة، ثم انصرف إلى المدينة (١٢).
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Zubair that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) besieged the people of Taif. Then the companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to him and said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! The spears of Banu Thaqif have burnt us, so pray to Allah against them." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "O Allah! Guide Banu Thaqif." He said this twice. The narrator says: Then Hazrat Khawla came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "I have heard that the daughter of Khuza'ah has many ornaments. So if Allah grants you victory over Taif tomorrow, please gift me her ornaments." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "What if Allah does not permit us to fight them?" At this, a man—according to us, it was Hazrat Umar—said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Why have you encamped against a people whom you have not been permitted to fight?" The narrator says: Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered the people to depart, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) came and encamped at the place of Ji'ranah, and there he (peace and blessings be upon him) distributed the spoils of Hunayn. Then from there, he (peace and blessings be upon him) entered for Umrah, and after (performing) Umrah, he went to Madinah Munawwarah.
Hadith 39728
٣٩٧٢٨ - حدثنا أبو معاوية عن الحجاج عن الحكم عن مقسم عن ابن عباس قال: [أعتق رسول اللَّه ﷺ يوم الطائف كل من خرج إليه من رقيق المشركين (١).
It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that on the day of Taif, whoever among the slaves of the polytheists came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) set him free.
Hadith 39729
٣٩٧٢٩ - حدثنا عبد الرحيم بن سليمان عن الحجاج عن الحكم عن مقسم (عن ابن عباس) (١) قال] (٢): خرج غلامان (إلى النبي) (٣) ﷺ يوم الطائف فأعتقهما، أحدهما أبو بكرة (فكانا مولييه) (٤) (٥).
It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that on the day of Taif, two slaves came to the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) set both of them free. One of them was Abu Bakrah. Thus, both of them became the freed slaves (mawali) of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
Hadith 39730
٣٩٧٣٠ - حدثنا أبو أسامة عن كهمس عن عبد اللَّه بن شقيق قال: كان النبي ﷺ (١) محاصر وادي القرى (٢).
Hazrat Abdullah bin Shaqiq narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) laid siege to the valley of Qura.
Hadith 39731
٣٩٧٣١ - حدثنا يزيد بن هارون قال: (أخبرنا) (١) قيس عن أبي حصين عن عبد اللَّه بن سنان أن النبي ﷺ حاصر أهل الطائف خمسة وعشرين يوما يدعو عليهم في دبر كل صلاة (٢).
It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Sinan that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) besieged the people of Taif for twenty-five days, and after every prayer, he (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) supplicated against them.
Hadith 39732
٣٩٧٣٢ - حدثنا وكيع عن سعيد بن السائب قال: سمعت شيخا من بني عامر أحد بني سواءة يقال له: عبيد اللَّه بن مُعَيَّة قال: أصيب رجلان يوم الطائف، قال: ⦗٧٤⦘ فحملا إلى النبي ﷺ قال: فأخبر بهما، (فأمر) (١) بهما (أن) (٢) (يدفنا) (٣) حيث أصيبا ولقيا (٤).
Hazrat Abdullah bin Mu’iyah narrates that on the day of Ta’if, two individuals were wounded. The narrator says: they were brought to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). And when he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was informed about them, he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) ordered regarding them that they should be buried at the place where they were found and killed.
Hadith 39733
٣٩٧٣٣ - حدثنا يزيد بن هارون قال: (أخبرنا) (١) نافع بن عمر عن أمية بن صفوان عن أبي بكر بن أبي زهير الثقفي عن أبيه أنه سمع النبي ﷺ يقول في خطبته (بالنبأ) (٢) أو (بالنباوة) (٣) (و) (٤) -النباوة (٥) من الطائف-: "توشكون أن تعرفوا أهل الجنة من أهل النار وخياركم من شراركم"، قالوا: بم يا رسول اللَّه؟ قال: "بالثناء الحسن والثناء السيء، أنتم شهداء اللَّه في الأرض" (٦).
Hazrat Abu Bakr bin Abi Zuhair Thaqafi narrates from his father that he heard the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, at the place of Nabatah or the place of Nabawah—Nabawah is a part of Taif—delivering a sermon. In his sermon, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Soon you will recognize the people of Paradise from the people of Hell (as distinct), and you will recognize your better people from your worse people (as distinct)." The people asked, "O Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him! By what means?" The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, replied: "By good praise and by bad praise; you are Allah's witnesses on earth."
Hadith 39734
٣٩٧٣٤ - حدثنا حسين بن علي عن زائدة قال: قال: عبد الملك قال: النبي ﷺ (وهو) (١) محاصر ثقيفا ما رأيت الملك منذ نزلت منزلي هذا، قال: فانطلقت خولة بنت حكيم (السلمية) (٢) فحدثت ذلك عمر فأتى عمر النبي ﷺ فذكر له قولها فقال: "صدقت"، فأشار عمر على النبي ﷺ بالرحيل، فارتحل النبي ﷺ (٣).
Hazrat Abdul Malik narrates that when the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) had besieged the tribe of Thaqif, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Since I have camped at this place, I have not seen an angel. The narrator says: (Upon hearing this) Hazrat Khawla bint Hakim Salima set out and conveyed this matter to Hazrat Umar. Hazrat Umar presented himself before the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and related Khawla's statement to him. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Khawla speaks the truth. Then Hazrat Umar suggested to him (peace and blessings be upon him) to depart, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) departed.
Hadith 39735
٣٩٧٣٥ - (حدثنا أبو خالد الأحمر عن يحيى بن سعيد عن عمرو بن شعيب قال: لما انصرف رسول اللَّه ﷺ) (١) من حنين بعد الطائف قال: "أدوا الخياط والمخيط"، فإن الغلول نار (وعار) (٢) وشنار على أهله يوم القيامة إلا (الخمس) (٣) "، ثم تناول شعرة من بعير فقال: "ما لي من مالكم هذا إلا الخمس، ((والخمس) (٤) مردود) (٥) عليكم" (٦).
It is narrated from Hazrat Amr bin Shu’aib that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) returned from Hunain after Ta’if, he said: “Collect (even) the needle and thread, because betrayal in spoils of war is (a cause for) Hell, and for the betrayer there will be disgrace and shame on the Day of Resurrection.” Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took hold of a hair from a camel and said, “There is not even this much for me from your wealth except the fifth (khums), and even the fifth (in the end) is returned to you.”
Hadith 39736
٣٩٧٣٦ - حدثنا محمد بن الحسن الأسدي قال: (حدثنا) (١) إبراهيم بن (طهمان) (٢) عن أبي الزبير عن عتبة مولى ابن عباس عن ابن عباس قال: لما قدم ⦗٧٦⦘ رسول اللَّه ﷺ من الطائف نزل الجعرانة فقسم بها الغنائم ثم اعتمر منها، (و) (٣) ذلك لليلتين بقيتا من شوال (٤).
It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) returned from Ta’if, he stayed at the place of Ji’ranah, and there he distributed the spoils of war. Then, at that very place, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ‘Umrah. And this incident took place before the last two nights of Shawwal.
Hadith 39737
٣٩٧٣٧ - حدثنا أبو معاوية عن حجاج عن محمد بن عبد الرحمن بن زرارة عن أشياخه عن الزبير أنه ملك يوم الطائف خالات له فأعتقن بملكه إياهن (١).
It is narrated from Hazrat Zubair that on the day of Taif, he came into possession of some of his maternal aunts (but) then those aunts became free because they came into his possession.
