It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah, he says: On the day of Badr, I reached Abu Jahl while he had been struck on his leg and was in a semi-dead state, and he was pushing people away from himself with his sword. I said, "O enemy of Allah! All praise is for Allah who has disgraced you." He said: "He is a man whom his own people have killed." Abdullah says: Then I started striking him with my small sword, and when I reached his hand, his sword fell. I picked up that sword and struck Abu Jahl with it until he became cold (i.e., died). Then I left from there and presented myself before the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) as if I had been lifted from the ground (i.e., I went quickly), and I informed him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Really? By Him besides whom there is no deity?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) repeated this to me three times. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went out with me until he stood over him and said: "O enemy of Allah! All praise is for Allah who has disgraced you. This man was the Pharaoh of this Ummah." Hazrat Waki’ says: My father, through Abu Ishaq from Abu Ubaidah, has added that Abdullah says: Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) granted me his sword.

I said, “O Muhammad! I have brought you this foal of Qarha’ so that you may take it.” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “I have no need of it. If you wish to take in exchange for it a selected coat of mail from the coats of mail of Badr, then I can take it.” I said, “Today I will not take anything from you in exchange for this horse. I have no need of it.” Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “O Dhu’l-Jawshan! Have you not embraced Islam so that you may be among the first in this matter (the religion)?” I replied, “No!” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Why?” I said, “I see your people are after you.” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “What news has reached you about those who have been overthrown (the dead) among them?” I said, “That news has indeed reached me.” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Then when will you be guided?” I said, “If you gain dominance over Mecca and are able to settle there.” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Perhaps you will live to see that.” Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “O Bilal! Take this man’s provision bag and give him some Ajwa dates in his provision.” Then, when I turned away, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Beware! This is the best horseman of Banu Amir.” The narrator says: By God! I was at the place of ‘Awza with my family when a horseman appeared before me. I asked, “Where have you come from?” He replied, “From Mecca.” I asked, “What happened to the people there?” The man said, “By God! Muhammad has gained dominance over Mecca and has settled there.” I said, “May my mother lose me! If only I had embraced Islam that day, then I would have asked him for the kingdom of Hira and he would have given it to me. By God! I will never drink from a decanter, nor will a horse ever come under me.”

Then Hazrat Umar began to speak, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also turned away from him. Then Hazrat Sa’d bin Ubadah submitted: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Do you mean us? By Him in Whose hand is my life, if you command us to drive our horses into the sea, we will surely drive them into the sea. And if you command us to race our horses to Bark Ghamad, we will also do that. The narrator says: Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) encouraged the people.
2. The narrator says: So the companions set out until they halted at Badr, and the camels of the Quraysh who came to fetch water reached them, and among them was a black slave of Banu Hajjaj. So the companions seized them. The companions of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him about Abu Sufyan and his companions. He replied: I have no knowledge of Abu Sufyan, but Abu Jahl, Utbah, Shaybah, and Umayyah bin Khalaf (are coming). So when this slave would say this, the companions would beat him. And when the companions would beat him, he would say: Yes! I will tell you. Abu Sufyan (is coming). Then when the companions would leave him, he would again say: I have no knowledge of Abu Sufyan, but Abu Jahl, Utbah, Shaybah, and Umayyah bin Khalaf are coming with the people. Then Hazrat Umar began to tell us about the people of Badr and said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was shown the killing places of the people of Badr the night before. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "InshaAllah, this place will be the killing place of such and such person tomorrow, and this place, InshaAllah, will be the killing place of such and such person." Hazrat Umar says: "By the One Who sent Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) with the truth, those disbelievers were killed at those very spots. They did not miss the mark." Then the slain disbelievers were thrown into a well, one upon another. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went until he reached them and said: "O so-and-so son of so-and-so! O so-and-so son of so-and-so! Did you find true what Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) promised you?" Hazrat Umar submitted: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! How are you speaking to bodies in which there are no souls?"
