Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with both of them) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) permitted the exchange of 'Ariya (the gift of dates on trees) with cut dates.

Hazrat Sahl bin Abi Hathmah and Rafi’ bin Khadij state that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade Muhaqalah and Muzabanah, but gave concession to the owners of ‘Araya. (Muhaqalah: exchanging harvested crops for standing crops) (Muzabanah: exchanging harvested fruit for fruit still on the tree). And (Imam) Abu Hanifah’s opinion has been mentioned that: this is not permissible.
