Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: For men, it is to say tasbih, and for women, it is to clap (i.e., when the imam makes a mistake or as a reminder).

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led the people in prayer one day. When he stood up to say the takbeer, he said: If Satan makes me forget something in the prayer, then for men it is to say tasbeeh, and for women it is to clap.

It is narrated from Hazrat Sahl bin Sa’d that the Holy Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: For men, it is to say tasbih, and for women, it is to clap.

It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir that in prayer, men should say tasbih and women should clap.

Hazrat Yazid says that I sought permission from Abdur Rahman bin Abi Laila (to enter the house) and he was performing prayer. He said tasbih to the servant. So the servant broke the fast for me.

Hasan narrates that a man sought permission (to enter) from Hazrat Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him). So he recited tasbih. The man came inside and sat down until he (Jabir) finished the prayer. And (Imam) Abu Hanifa's opinion is mentioned that: he used to say, the one praying should not do so. And he considered it disliked.
