Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Saeed bin Musayyib narrates that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed Attab bin Asid to estimate the yield of grapes just as the yield of dates is estimated. Thus, the zakat of grapes will be paid in the form of raisins, and the zakat of dates will be paid in the form of dried dates. This is the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding dates and grapes.

It is narrated from Hazrat Sha'bi that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Abdullah bin Rawaha to the people of Yemen, so he set an estimate for them in dates.

Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Masood narrates that Sahl bin Abi Hathmah came to our gathering and related this hadith that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When you make an estimate, take (some) and leave (some).

Hazrat Jabir narrates that Ibn Rawaha estimated the dates of Khaybar to be forty thousand wasq. And it was thought that when Ibn Rawaha gave the Jews the choice, they took the dates and there were twenty thousand wasq upon them.

Hazrat Basheer bin Yasar narrates that Hazrat Umar used to send Abu Hathmah to estimate the value of dates. And (Imam) Abu Hanifa's opinion has been mentioned that: he did not hold the opinion of estimation.
