Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Talq bin Habib that he said: There are four things that whoever is given them, he has been given the good of this world and the Hereafter: a tongue that remembers (Allah), a heart that is grateful, a body that is patient in the face of hardships, and a believing wife who does not betray her husband regarding herself.

It is narrated from Hazrat Talq bin Habib that he says: Surely, the rights of Allah Almighty are weightier than that the servants can fulfill them, and the blessings of God are more than that the servants can count them. Therefore, repent in the morning and repent in the evening.

Hazrat Kulthum bin Jabr says that in Basra, Mutamanni used to say: The worship of Taliq bin Habib is worship, and the forbearance of Muslim bin Yasar is forbearance.

It is narrated from Hazrat Asim that he said: We said to Hazrat Talq bin Habib, "Tell us about Taqwa (piety)." He replied: "Taqwa is acting in obedience to Allah, hoping for His mercy and in the light of His guidance. And Taqwa is to abandon disobedience to Allah out of fear of Him and because of the light of His guidance."

Hazrat Safwan bin Muhriz narrates: He says that Hazrat Jundub said: The example of the person who gives admonition and forgets himself is like that lamp which gives light to others and burns itself. Each one of you should look at what enters his stomach. Because when an animal dies, the first thing that bursts is its stomach. And each one of you should fear that between him and Paradise, even a handful of the blood of a Muslim may become a barrier.

A man from the tribe of ‘Urainah narrates that Hazrat Jundub Bajli set out on a journey, and some people from his tribe accompanied him. When they reached a place where some of them bade farewell to others, Jundub said: Do you not know? “Mahroob” is the one whose religion has been attacked, and “Masloob” is the one whose religion has been taken away. Beware! After Paradise, there is no poverty, and after Hell, there is no wealth. Yes, it is so that the prisoner of Hell does not attain release, and its poor one does not become rich. Then he mounted his ride and departed.

In the mosque of Mina, a man from among the jurists of the people of Syria narrated that Allah Almighty created the earth and the trees that are in the earth. And whenever anyone from the children of Adam would come to any of those trees, he would only find goodness from that tree, or it would be better for him. Thus, the state of the trees remained like this continuously until the wicked ones from among the children of Adam uttered the great statement that Allah has begotten children. At this, the earth trembled and thorns appeared in the trees.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Qahzam that he said: A pouch was brought to Ibn Ziyad in which there were grains of wheat the size of date stones. And this pouch was found in the house of some members of the family of Kisra, and with it was this inscription: This is the produce of such-and-such a time, meaning it was produced in that era in which Allah was obeyed.

Hazrat Khalid Rab'i narrates that he says: There was a man among the Children of Israel who was covered with knowledge. He invented a bid'ah (innovation). Then he invited people to it and it began to be followed. One night, this thought occurred to him and he said: Leave these people; they do not know about my invention. But does Allah Almighty not know about this bid'ah that I have created? He says that he reached such a state in his repentance that he burned his collarbone and put a rope through it, then tied it to one of the pillars of the mosque and said: I will not untie it until my repentance is accepted. The narrator says: Upon this, Allah Almighty revealed to one of the prophets among the Children of Israel that you should say to so-and-so: If your sin was only between Me and you, I would have forgiven you, but what about those of My servants whom you have led astray? Thus, he entered Hell.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Marwan that he says: I heard Abu Khalil Salih regarding the Divine command {إنَّمَا یَخْشَی اللَّہَ مِنْ عِبَادِہِ الْعُلَمَائُ }. He said: The greatest scholar of God is the one who fears Him the most.
