Hadith 37836
٣٧٨٣٦ - حدثنا يزيد بن هارون عن هشام عن (الحسن) (١) قال: قال عامر بن عبد قيس: العيش في أربع: النساء واللباس والطعام والنوم، فأما النساء فواللَّه ما أبا ⦗٥١١⦘ لي امرأة رأيت أم (عنزًا) (٢)، وأما اللباس فواللَّه ما أبا لي بما واريت به عورتي، وأما الطعام والنوم فقد غلباني، واللَّه لأُضِرَّن بهماجهدي.
It is narrated from Hazrat Aamir bin Abd Qais that he says: There are four things in luxury: women, clothing, food, and sleep. As for women, by God, for me seeing a woman and seeing a goat are the same. And as for clothing, by God! Whatever cloth I have found to cover my private parts, I do not care for any other clothing. And as for food and sleep, indeed both of these overpower me. By God! I will trouble myself with both of them. Hasan says: By God! He harmed both of them.
Hadith 37838
٣٧٨٣٨ - حدثنا عبد الأعلى عن هشام عن الحسن قال: دخل على عامر في البيت وليس معه إلا جرة فيها شرابه وطهوره، وسلة فيها طعامه.
It is narrated from Hasan that he said: I went to the house of Hazrat Amir, and he had only one pitcher in which was water for his ablution and drinking, or a basket in which was his food.
Hadith 37839
٣٧٨٣٩ - حدثنا عبد الأعلى عن هشام عن الحسن قال: كان ما يلي الأرض (من) (١) عامر بن (عبد) (٢) قيس مثل ثفن البعير.
It is narrated from Hasan that he said: The part of the body of Hazrat Amir bin Abd Qais that touched the ground was as hard as that of a camel.
Hadith 37840
٣٧٨٤٠ - حدثنا الحسن بن موسى الأشيب عن شعبة عن حبيب بن شهيد قال: سمعت أبا بشر يحدث عن سهم بن شقيق قال: أتيت عامر بن (عبد) (١) قيس فقعدت على بابه فخرج وقد اغتسل، فقلت: إني أرى الغسل يعجبك، فقال: ربما اغتسلت، قال: ما حاجتك؟ (قلت) (٢): حب الحديث، قال: وعهدك بي أحب الحديث (٣).
It is narrated from Sahm bin Shaqiq that he says: I went to Hazrat Amir bin Abd Qais and sat at his door. Then he came out after taking a bath, so I said: I think you like bathing. He replied: I bathe often. Then he asked: What do you need? I said: I have come for hadith. He said: Do you think that I love hadith?
Hadith 37841
٣٧٨٤١ - حدثنا الحسن بن موسى عن أبي هلال قال: حدثنا محمد بن سيرين قال: قيل لعامر بن عبد اللَّه: ألا تزوج؟ قال: ما عندي نشاط وما عندي من مال، فما (أغر) (١) امرأة مسلمة.
It is narrated from Hazrat Muhammad bin Sirin that he says Hazrat Amir bin Abdullah was asked, "Why have you not married?" He replied, "I have no desire for it, nor do I have wealth. Therefore, I cannot deceive any Muslim woman."
Hadith 37842
٣٧٨٤٢ - حدثنا عفان قال: حدثنا حماد بن سلمة عن ثابت قال: قال عامر بن عبد قيس لابني عم له: فوضا أمركما إلى اللَّه (١).
It is narrated from Hazrat Thabit that he says Hazrat Aamir bin Abd Qais said to his two paternal cousins: Entrust your matter to Allah.
Hadith 37843
٣٧٨٤٣ - حدثنا عفان قال: حدثنا جعفر بن سليمان (قال) (١): (حدثنا) (٢) بعض مشيختنا، قال: قال عامر بن عبد اللَّه: إنما أجدني آسف على البصرة لأربع خصال: (تجاوب) (٣) (مؤذنيها) (٤) وظمأ الهواجر؛ ولأن بها أخداني؛ ولأن بها وطني.
Hazrat Amir bin Abdullah says that I find myself saddened by four things about Basra: its muezzins responding to each other, the thirst of the hot summer afternoons, the fact that my friends are there, and that it is my homeland.
Hadith 37844
٣٧٨٤٤ - حدثنا عفان (قال: حدثنا: جعفر بن سليمان) (١) قال: حدثنا سعيد الجريري قال: لما سير عامر بن عبد اللَّه، قال: شيعه أخوانه (فقال) (٢) بظهر المِربد: إني داع فأمنوا، فقالوا: هات فقد كنا (نشتهي) (٣) هذا منك، فقال: اللهم من (ساءني) (٤) وكذب علي وأخرجني من مصري وفرق بيني وبين إخواني: اللهم أكثر ماله وولده وأصح جسمه وأطل عمره.
Hazrat Saeed Jariri narrates that he says when Hazrat Amir bin Abdullah was exiled, some of his brothers went out to accompany him. So he went to the place of Zuhr in the Mirbad and said: I will supplicate, you say Ameen. The brothers said: Ask, this is what we ourselves desire from you. He, may Allah have mercy on him, supplicated: O Allah! Whoever did wrong to me, lied about me, exiled me from my city, and caused separation between me and my brothers, O Allah! Increase his wealth and his children, keep his body healthy, and grant him a long life.
Hadith 37845
٣٧٨٤٥ - حدثنا عفان قال: حدثنا جعفر بن سليمان عن مالك بن دينار قال: حدثني من رآى (عامر بن) (١) عبد قيس دعا بزيت فصبه في يده -كذا وصف جعفر ⦗٥١٣⦘ ومسح إحداهما على الأخرى-، (ثم قال) (٢): ﴿(وَشَجَرَةً) (٣) تَخْرُجُ مِنْ طُورِ سَيْنَاءَ تَنْبُتُ بِالدُّهْنِ وَصِبْغٍ لِلْآكِلِينَ﴾ [المؤمنون: ٢٠] قال: فدهن رأسه ولحيته.
It is narrated from Hazrat Malik bin Dinar that he said: The person who himself had seen Amir bin Abd Qais informed me that he (Amir) asked for olive oil, then poured it into his hand and rubbed one hand over the other, then recited this verse of the Holy Qur'an: { وَشَجَرَۃً تَخْرُجُ مِنْ طُورِ سَیْنَائَ تَنْبُتُ بِالدُّہْنِ وَصِبْغٍ لِلآکِلِینَ }. The narrator says that then he applied the oil to his head and beard.
Hadith 37846
٣٧٨٤٦ - حدثنا عفان قال: حدثنا جعفر بن سليمان قال: حدثني مالك بن دينار قال: حدثني فلان: أن عامر بن عبد اللَّه كان بالرحبة، وإذا (ذمي) (١) يظلم، قال: فألقى عامر (رداءه) (٢) وقال: ألا (أرى) (٣) ذمة اللَّه (تخفرون) (٤) وأنا حي، (فاستنقذه) (٥).
Hazrat Malik bin Dinar narrates from a man that Hazrat Amir bin Abdullah was in the courtyard of his house when a dhimmi was being oppressed. The narrator says: So Hazrat Amir threw down his cloak and said, "Shall I remain alive while I see the covenant of Allah being broken?" Thus, he saved him.
Hadith 37847
٣٧٨٤٧ - حدثنا عباد بن العوام عن عاصم عن فضيل بن زيد الرقاشي قال: لا (يُلهك) (١) الناسُ عن نفسك، فإن الأمر يصل إليك (دونهم) (٢)، ولا تقل: اقطع عنا اليوم بكذا وكذا، فإنه محصيٌ عليك جميعَ ما عملت في ذلك، ولم (نرَ) (٣) شيئا أسرع إدراكا ولا أحسن طلبا من حسنة (حديثة) (٤) لذنب (عظيم) (٥).
It is narrated from Hazrat Fudail bin Zaid Raqashi. He says: Do not let people make you heedless of your own self, because your matter will be with yourself, not with them. And do not say: "Today passed by us in such and such a way," because whatever you do in it will all be counted against you. And you will not find anything swifter or better in seeking than the good deed that follows a major sin.
Hadith 37848
٣٧٨٤٨ - حدثنا عفان قال: حدثنا حماد بن زيد (قال) (١): (حدثنا) (٢) عمران ابن حدير عن قسامة بن زهير قال: روحوا القلوب (تعي) (٣) الذكر.
It is narrated from Hazrat Qasama bin Zuhair that he says: Give comfort to the hearts through remembrance.
