Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Yahya bin Ja'dah that he used to say: Act while you are fearful, and leave off the deed when you desire it. Even if the righteous deed is little, be constant in it.

It is narrated from Hazrat Yahya bin Ja'dah that Hazrat Yahya says: When a man prostrates, and Hazrat Ibn Mahdi says: When a man places his forehead (on the ground), he becomes free from arrogance.

It is narrated from Hazrat A’mash that he says: I heard people mentioning from Hazrat Shurayh that he saw one of his neighbors who was leaving. He asked: What happened to you? He replied: We are done. Shurayh said: Is this the command for a person who is free?

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Ubaid that he said: Indeed, the easiest sacrifice is clothing and gait.

Hazrat Abu Sanan narrates, he says that Hazrat Abdullah bin Abu Al-Hazil was one day complaining about his sins, so a man said to him: O Abu Al-Mughira! Are you not pious? The narrator says he replied: O Allah! One of Your servants is coming close to me and I make You a witness over his anger.

It is narrated from Hazrat Rabi’ bin Hirash that he says: Someone came to me and said, “Your brother has died.” So I hurried and came. He had been covered in his clothes, and I was standing by my brother’s head, seeking forgiveness for him and reciting “Inna lillah,” when suddenly the cloth was removed from his face and he said: “Assalamu Alaikum!” We replied, “Wa Alaikum Assalam. Subhan Allah.” He said, “Subhan Allah. After you, I presented myself before Allah. There, I was received with a pleasant breeze and sweet fragrance, and by a Lord who was not angry. And I was clothed in green garments of fine silk and brocade. And I found the matter easier than you could have imagined. And do not sit relying (on this). I sought permission from my Lord to inform you and give you glad tidings. Take me to the presence of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), because he (peace be upon him) made a covenant with me that I would remain here until you arrived.” Then this person passed away at that very place. The narrator says he picked up a pebble and threw it. The narrator says, “I do not know whether he was faster or this one.”

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Aun that he said: When the pious people used to meet each other, some of them would advise others with three things, and when they were apart, they would write these to each other. Whoever acts for his Hereafter, Allah Almighty suffices him for his worldly affairs. Whoever rectifies his relationship between himself and his Lord, Allah Almighty suffices him against the people. Whoever rectifies his private life, Allah Almighty rectifies his public life.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Sinan that he saw one of his friends in a dream. So he asked him, "When you saw the matter, which thing appeared to you as the most virtuous?" He replied, "A few prostrations in the mosque."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Isa that he said: Among the people before you, there was a man who worshipped Allah on land for forty years. Then he prayed, "O Lord! I desire to worship You in the sea." So some people came, and he asked them to let him board (their boat); they allowed him to board. Then, as long as Allah willed, the boat continued to move with them. Then the boat stopped. There was a tree at the edge of the water. The narrator says that the man said (to the boatmen), "Let me off near that tree." The narrator says: The people said, "How will you live in this place?" He said, "I asked you to take me for a wage, so let me off wherever my heart desires." So they let him off there, and the boat continued on with the rest of the people. Then an angel wanted to ascend to the sky, and he recited the words by which he would ascend to the sky, but he could not ascend. He realized that this was the result of some mistake of his. So he came to the one by the tree and said to him that he should intercede for him with his Lord. The narrator says: That man prayed and supplicated for the angel. The narrator says: That worshipper also prayed to Allah that this angel should seize his soul so that the pain from the Angel of Death would be lessened. So when the time of that man's death came, the angel appeared and said, "I have requested my Lord that He accept my intercession for you just as He accepted your intercession for me, and that I should be the one to seize your soul. So, as you wish, I will seize your soul." The narrator says: Then that worshipper prostrated, a tear came from his eye, and he died.
