Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Razin regarding the Divine command { وَثِیَابَک فَطَہِّرْ } that he said: Correct your deeds. So when a person is one who performs good deeds, it is said: So-and-so is Tahir al-Thiyab (one with pure clothes).

It is narrated from Hazrat Mujahid and Hazrat Abu Razin regarding { فَہُمْ یُوزَعُونَ } that both of them say its beginning will be joined to its end.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Razin regarding the Divine command { فَلْیَضْحَکُوا قَلِیلاً وَلْیَبْکُوا کَثِیرًا }, he says that Allah Almighty says: The world is little. So laugh in it as much as you wish. Then when those people return to the Hereafter, they will weep an unending weeping. So this is what is abundant.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Razin regarding the Divine Command ({إنَّہَا لإِحْدَی الْکُبَرِ نَذِیرًا لِلْبَشَرِ }). He said: Allah Almighty says: I am the one who warns you against Hell.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Razin regarding { لَوَّاحَۃٌ لِلْبَشَرِ }, he says: It will expose its skin until it leaves it darker than the night.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Razin, he says: "Al-Ghassaq is that which flows from their pus."

It is narrated from Hazrat A'mash that he says: I heard people saying that Abdur Rahman bin Yazid never performed any deed except that his intention in it was the pleasure of Allah.

It is narrated about Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Yazid that he used to recite the Qur'an in seven days.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ziyad bin Hudair that he said: Those who do not show excellence in piety do not attain understanding of jurisprudence.

Hazrat Ziyad bin Hudair says: I like that I am in an iron barrier (such as a cage, etc.) and I have the things I need with me. I do not talk to people, nor do people talk to me.

It is narrated from Hazrat Harith bin Qais that he said: When you are engaged in a worldly matter, then hasten, and when you are involved in an affair of the Hereafter, then delay as much as possible. And when you are praying and Satan comes to you and says: "You are showing off," then (even so) lengthen your prayer further.

It is narrated from Hazrat A’mash that he says Hazrat Khaythamah said: You and Ibrahim sit in the mosque and a crowd gathers around you. Whereas I saw Harith bin Qais that when two people gathered near him, he would leave them and stand up.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Al-Ahwas that he said: A man used to knock on the tent. The narrator says: Then he would find a buzzing sound like that of bees for them. What has happened to these people that they feel secure regarding that which those people used to fear?

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Rabee’ah that he says: Utbah bin Farqad said to Abdullah bin Rabee’ah: O Abdullah! Will you not help me regarding your nephew? He said: What help is that? He said: In the work I am engaged in, let him assist me in it. So Abdullah said to him: O Amr! Obey your father. The narrator says then he looked towards Hazrat Mu’addad, who was also sitting. He said: Do not obey them { وَاسْجُدْ وَاقْتَرِبْ } The narrator says that upon this Hazrat Amr said: O my father! I am merely a slave who is working to free his neck. The narrator says that upon this Utbah began to weep and said: O my son! I have two kinds of love for you: one is love for the sake of Allah, and (the other) is a father’s love for his son. The narrator says then Hazrat Amr said: O my father! You brought to me wealth amounting to seventy thousand. So if you are asking me about this wealth, then here it is, take it. Otherwise, leave me so that I may spend it. Utbah said to him: You may spend it. The narrator says then he spent it in such a way that not even a single dirham remained from it.

Hazrat Ammarah says that we set out towards Makkah and the family of Hazrat Shurayh was also with us. So Shurayh came out with us to see us off and said: Among their words was also this: Strive well in walking, for your mounts will not benefit you in any way from Allah. And a person does not leave anything from this world lighter than his own life. Ammarah says I remembered his words and benefited from them.

Hazrat Muhammad bin Fudayl narrates from his father, who says: I heard Mahan Hanafi say: Does it not bring shame to any of you that his riding animal or the clothes he wears remember Allah more than he does? Mahan was not negligent in saying takbeer and tahlil.

It is narrated from Ibrahim that he said: I saw Mahan Hanafi, and Hajjaj had ordered that he be crucified at his door. The narrator says: I saw him at that time while he was on the scaffold, engaged in tasbih (glorifying Allah), takbir (declaring Allah's greatness), tahlil (declaring the oneness of Allah), and praising and glorifying Allah. When he reached twenty-nine, he gestured with his hand, and in that state he was struck with a spear. Then, even after a month, I saw him counting the number twenty-nine with his hand. The narrator says: At night, a light would be seen near him.
