Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Hisham narrates from his father, who says that Hazrat Umar bin Khattab went to Hazrat Abu Ubaidah bin Jarrah (may Allah be pleased with him). Hazrat Abu Ubaidah bin Jarrah was lying on his saddle, using a bag as a pillow. The narrator says that Hazrat Umar said to him, "Why do you not use these new things that your companions use?" Hazrat Abu Ubaidah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "This bedding of mine is enough to fulfill my sleep."

Hazrat Thabit Banani narrates that Hazrat Abu Ubaidah bin Jarrah was the governor of the land of Syria. He delivered a sermon to the people and said: O people! I am a man from the Quraish, and by God! I do not know of any red or black person better than myself who, due to the fear of God, possesses superiority over me, except that I would like to live a life like his.

It is narrated from Hazrat Nimran bin Mukhamar Rahbi that he says: Hazrat Abu Ubaidah bin Jarrah was walking with the army and saying: Beware! Many who keep their clothes white make their religion dirty. Beware! Many who honor their own selves actually disgrace them. Beware! Do new good deeds for old evils, because if any one of you fills the space between the earth and the sky with evil, then performs a good deed, this good deed will overcome his evils to the extent that it will bring them down.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that he says: I went to Hazrat Abu Ubaidah bin Jarrah (may Allah be pleased with him), so he accommodated me at one side of his house, while his wife was at another side. And there was a curtain between us. Then he would milk the she-camel and bring the vessel, then place it in my hand. Upon this, a man from among the Tulaqa said to him: Do you accommodate this man in your house with your wife? So he replied: I consider this man to be completely chaste.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Ubaidah bin Jarrah that he says: The heart of a believer is like a bird. At one moment it is here, and at another moment it is there.
