Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Juhaifa that he says Hazrat Abdullah said: The purity of the world has departed and its impurity remains, therefore death is a gift for every Muslim.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah: The world is like the slope of a mountain; its purity has departed and its impurity remains.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Masood that he said: It is sufficient for a man's knowledge that he fears Allah, and it is sufficient for a man's ignorance that he is pleased with his own deeds.

It is narrated from Abdullah, he says: Whoever intends the Hereafter suffers loss in this world, and whoever intends the world suffers loss in the Hereafter. O people! Bear the loss of the perishable for the sake of the everlasting.

Hazrat Abdullah says: I would like to be a bird, with wings on my shoulders.

Hazrat Abdullah said: I wish I were a tree that would be cut down.

Hazrat Abdullah says: I would prefer that dung bursts from me and I am attributed to it. I am given the name Abdullah bin Rawthah and Allah Almighty forgives me one sin. The narrator Abu Muawiyah says: He (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I like that I come to know that Allah has forgiven me. Then he narrated further similar to the previous hadith.

Hazrat Abdullah says: Whoever among you has the ability that his treasure be in the sky, where neither moth can eat it nor thief can reach it, he should do so. Because a man's heart is with his treasure.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Burdah that he says Hazrat Abdullah heard a scream, so he lay down facing the Qiblah.

Al-i Abdullah narrated that Abdullah advised his son Abdur Rahman. He said: I advise you to fear Allah. And your house should be spacious for you, and keep your tongue under control, and weep over your mistakes.

Hazrat Abdullah says: I love that I come to know that Allah Almighty has forgiven me, then I do not care which descendant of the children of Adam gave birth to me.

Hazrat Abdullah says: Indeed, Paradise is covered with disliked things and indeed, Hell is covered with desires. So whoever peeks beyond the veil, he goes beyond.

Hazrat Abdullah says: Indeed, on the Day of Resurrection, the person with the most errors will be the one who indulges most in falsehood.

Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Abdullah narrates from his father that he said: The example of small deeds is like some people who camp at a place where there is no fuel, and they have meat with them. So these people keep collecting (fuel) continuously until they gather enough fuel to cook their meat.

It is narrated from Hazrat Alqamah that he says Hazrat Abdullah was afflicted with a particular illness in which he began to show distress. We said, "We have never seen you show such distress in any illness as you have in this one?" He (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: "This illness has overpowered me and has brought heedlessness close to me."

It is narrated from Hazrat Qasim that he says Hazrat Abdullah said: Do not be hasty because of people's praise or people's criticism. Because today a person may like you, and tomorrow the same person may think badly of you. And today (if) he thinks badly of you, then tomorrow he may think well of you. Because people keep changing. Allah Almighty will forgive sins on the Day of Judgment. On the day when the servant comes to Allah, Allah Almighty will be more merciful to His servant than a mother is to her child, who spreads a bed for her child on barren land and then searches for the bedding with her own hands; so if there is anything that stings, it will be on her hand, and if there is any thorn, it will be on her hand.

It is narrated from Hazrat Qasim who says that Hazrat Abdullah said: I like to be in this world like a person who comes in the morning as a rider and then departs.

It is narrated from Hazrat Qasim bin Abdur Rahman that he says Hazrat Abdullah said: Knowledge alone is sufficient for the fear of God, and ignorance alone is sufficient for deception regarding God.

It is narrated from Harith bin Suwaid that he says: Abdullah said: By Him besides whom there is no deity, the family of Abdullah has never spent a morning in such a state that they possessed anything through which they hoped that Allah would grant them good or remove any harm from them by means of it, except that Allah knows that Abdullah does not associate anything with Him.

Hazrat Abdullah says: By Him besides whom there is no deity! Whoever spends his morning as a Muslim and his evening as a Muslim, then whatever condition of the world he encounters, it will not harm him.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Majliz that he says: The companions of Hazrat Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) were troubled by the cold. The narrator says: Thus, a man began to feel shy to come in inferior clothes or an inferior sheet. Upon this, Hazrat Abu Abdur Rahman came one day in a (single) cloak, then the next morning also came in the same, then on the third morning also came in the same.

It is narrated from Hazrat Sha'bi that he says Hazrat Abdullah said: I do not fear that you will make mistakes unintentionally. But I fear that you will make mistakes knowingly. I do not fear that you will consider your deeds to be few, but I fear that you will consider your deeds to be many.

It is narrated from Hazrat Yahya bin Abi Kathir that he says Hazrat Abdullah said: Leave the doubts (whisperings), for they are sins.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu’l-Ahwas that he says Hazrat Abdullah said: A believer considers his sin as if it were a mountain, about which he fears that it might fall upon him. And a hypocrite considers his sin like a fly that sat on his nose, then flew away and went off.

It is narrated from Hazrat Malik bin Mughul that he said: We were sitting with Hazrat Qasim bin Abdur Rahman … At this, a man said … and he pointed towards Hazrat Qasim … He said: Hazrat Abdullah had said … I like that when I die, then I should not be raised again. At this, Hazrat Qasim gestured with his head in this way. That is, yes.

It is narrated from Hazrat Zubayd that he says Hazrat Abdullah said: Speak good words and you will be known for goodness. Act upon goodness and you will become people of goodness. Do not be hasty or reveal secrets.

It is narrated from Hasan that he says that Abdullah said: If I am made to stand between Paradise and Hell and I am told ... we will tell you which of these two you are in ... is this more beloved to you ... or that you become ashes? Then I would prefer to become ashes.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ma'n that he says Hazrat Abdullah said: Do not fall into sects, otherwise you will be destroyed.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah that he says: I like that a reconciliation is made with me for one good deed and nine bad deeds.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aun that he says Hazrat Abdullah said: A believer loves. There is no good in a person who neither loves nor is loved.

It is narrated from Hazrat Marrah that he says Hazrat Abdullah said: Surely Allah Almighty gives the world to the one He loves and also to the one He does not love. But He gives faith only to the one He loves. So when Allah Almighty loves a servant, He grants him faith.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: On the Day of Resurrection, people will be presented with three registers. One register in which there will be good deeds, one register in which there will be blessings, and one register in which there will be sins. Then the register of blessings will be brought against the register of good deeds. Thus, the good deeds will be exhausted in exchange for the blessings, and the sins will remain, which will be subject to Allah’s will. If Allah wills, He will punish, and if He wills, He will forgive.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah that he said: Acquire knowledge, acquire knowledge, then when you have acquired knowledge, act upon it.

Hazrat Abdullah says: Outward appearance resembles outward appearance only when hearts resemble hearts.

Hazrat Abdullah says: Indeed, a major part of humility is that you are content with a place of lower rank than the place of honor in a gathering, and that you initiate greeting (salaam) to whomever you meet.

It is narrated from Abdullah, he says: You surpass the companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) in fasting, prayers, and jihad, but they were better than you. People asked: O Abu Abdur Rahman! Why? He (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: They were more disinterested in the world and more desirous of the Hereafter.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) says: These hearts are only vessels. So fill them with the Qur'an; do not fill the hearts with anything else.

It is narrated from Abdullah that he used to say in his sermon: The truest word is the Word of Allah, and the strongest handle is the word of piety, and the best religion is the religion of Abraham, and among the most beautiful stories is this Qur’an, and the most beautiful path is the Sunnah of Muhammad ﷺ. The most honorable speech is the remembrance of Allah. Among the best matters is the firm matter. The worst of matters are innovations, and the best guidance is the guidance of the Prophets. The most honorable death is the killing of martyrs. The most dangerous misguidance is the deviation after guidance. The best knowledge is that which is beneficial, and the best guidance is that which is followed. The worst blindness is the blindness of the heart.

2. And the upper hand is better than the lower hand. That which is little but sufficient is better than that which is much but distracts. “And a soul that you save is better than a leadership you cannot account for.” The worst blame is the blame at the time of death, and the worst regret is the regret on the Day of Resurrection. And some people come to prayer at the last moment, and some remember Allah with a heedless heart. Among the greatest mistakes is the lying tongue. The best wealth is the wealth of the heart. The best provision is piety. A great part of wisdom is the fear of Allah. Among what is placed in the hearts, the best thing is certainty, and doubt about disbelief and wailing are acts of ignorance. Betrayal (in war booty) is a coal from Hell, and hoarding is a branding from Hell.

3. Poetry is among the flutes of Satan. Wine is a collection of sins. Women are the ropes of Satan. Youth is a branch of madness. The worst earning is the earning from usury, and the worst food is the food of the orphan. The fortunate one is he who takes admonition from others, and the wretched one is he who is written as wretched in the womb of his mother. For any of you, that amount is sufficient with which his soul is content, for the return is to four spans (of earth). The matter is judged by its end. The acceptance of an action depends on its conclusion. The worst narrators are those who narrate lies, and what is coming is near.

4. To abuse a believer is a sin, and to fight him is disbelief, and to eat his flesh is among the disobediences to Allah. The sanctity of his wealth is like the sanctity of his blood. Whoever dares against Allah, Allah proves him a liar. And whoever forgives, Allah also forgives him, and whoever pardons, Allah also pardons him, and whoever controls his anger, Allah rewards him, and whoever is patient over calamities, Allah helps him, and whoever recognizes the trial, he is patient over it, and whoever does not recognize it, he dislikes it. And whoever acts arrogantly, Allah brings him down, and whoever seeks fame, Allah disgraces him, and whoever desires the world, the world wearies him, and whoever obeys Satan, disobeys Allah, and whoever disobeys Allah, Allah punishes him.

It is narrated from Hazrat Marrah bin Shurahbeel that he says Hazrat Abdullah said: { اتَّقُوا اللَّہَ حَقَّ تُقَاتِہِ } And the right of taqwa is that He should be obeyed, not disobeyed; He should be remembered, not forgotten; and He should be thanked, not shown ingratitude. And giving wealth despite loving it means that you spend your wealth while you are healthy and well, you wish to enjoy life, and you fear poverty. And the virtue of the night prayer over the day prayer is like the virtue of hidden charity over open charity.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah that he says: Prayer benefits only the one who obeys it. Then Hazrat Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) recited this verse: {إنَّ الصَّلاَۃَ تَنْہَی عَنِ الْفَحْشَائِ وَالْمُنْکَرِ وَلَذِکْرُ اللہِ أَکْبَرُ } Then Hazrat Abdullah said: Allah's remembrance of His servant is greater than the servant's remembrance of his Lord.
