Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abu Amr Shaibani says that the battle with Mehran took place at the beginning of the year, and the Battle of Qadisiyyah at the end of the year. Rustam had said that Mehran used to do childish things.

Hazrat Qais narrates that Abu Ubaid bin Mas’ud crossed the river Euphrates to go towards Mehran. After they had crossed, the enemies broke the bridge and martyred him and his companions. On this occasion, Hazrat Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) ordered Abu Mihjan to compose verses in his memory, and he recited verses whose translation is as follows: “The house of Abu Jabr has become desolate and there are hungry widows there. Near the bridge, the Banu Amr are lying helpless on the banks. I am the last among the survivors and the righteous people have been martyred with me. The blood of my horse was shed, and it was shed so much that its blood was on every common and special path.”

Hazrat Qais narrates that Hazrat Abu Ubaid bin Mas’ud was with his companions in the battle of Mehran. After they had crossed, the bridge was cut off and they were martyred. Hazrat Qais says that in the battle of Mehran, some people, among whom was Hazrat Khalid bin ‘Arfatah, said to Hazrat Jarir, “O Jarir! We will never leave our place.” He said, “O Jarir! We should cross this river.” I said, “Do you want them to do to us what they did to Abu Ubaid? We are a people who do not know how to swim. We will not leave our area until Allah decides between us and them.” So the polytheists crossed it, and on that day Mehran was killed; at that time he was at a place called Nakhilah.

! The content of this narration is not clear. The researcher of Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah, Muhammad Awwamah, writes in the footnote of this hadith: "There are words in the narration that I could not discern."

Hazrat Abu Uthman narrates that when Hazrat Abu Ubaid was martyred and his companions were defeated, Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said that I will take revenge on your behalf.

Hazrat Ibn Sirin narrates that when Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) received the news of Abu Ubaid Thaqafi's martyrdom, he said that if I get the opportunity, I will take revenge for him.

Hazrat Hanish bin Harith Nakha'i narrates from the elders of his tribe that when Hazrat Jarir killed Mehran, he placed his head on a spear.

Hazrat Saad bin Ibrahim narrates that on the day of the martyrdom of Hazrat Abu Ubaid, he passed by a man whose hands and feet had been cut off. He was reciting this verse of the Holy Qur'an: { مَعَ الَّذِینَ أَنْعَمَ اللَّہُ عَلَیْہِمْ مِنَ النَّبِیِّینَ وَالصِّدِّیقِینَ وَالشُّہَدَائِ وَالصَّالِحِینَ وَحَسُنَ أُولَئِکَ رَفِیقًا }. A person passing by him asked, "Who are you?" He replied, "I am an Ansari."
