Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Umm Atiyyah Al-Ansariyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) says that I participated in seven battles with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I would be behind their litters, prepare food for them, bandage the wounded, and take care of the sick.

Hazrat Hashraj bin Ziyad (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from his grandmother that six women participated with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the Battle of Khaybar. When the Messenger of Allah __QUR_N__ heard about five of them, he came to us and said: "For what purpose have you come out to the battle?" We saw signs of anger on your face. We said, "O Messenger of Allah! We have participated in the battle; we have medicine with which we will treat the wounded, hand out arrows, give water mixed with sattu to drink, and make ropes from hair with which help will be provided in the way of Allah." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to us: "Stay here." Then, when Khaybar was conquered, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave us a share just as he gave to the men.

It is narrated from Hazrat Yazid bin Hurmaz (may Allah be pleased with him) that Najdah wrote a letter to Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) inquiring whether women used to participate in jihad with the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and whether they received a share in the spoils of war. Hazrat Yazid (may Allah be pleased with him) says that I wrote to Najdah on behalf of Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that women used to participate in jihad with the Messenger of Allah __QUR_N__, but they did not receive a separate share; they were given a small gift.

It is narrated from Hazrat Saeed bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that Umm Kabsha, a woman from Banu Uzrah, submitted to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): "O Messenger of Allah! Grant me permission to accompany such-and-such army." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No." She said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), I am not going with the intention of fighting; I wish to go with the intention of dressing the wounds of the sick and injured and giving water to the ill." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If this would not become a habit and it would not be said that such-and-such woman went for jihad, I would have granted you permission, but remain seated (do not go along)."

Hazrat Ikrimah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that on the day of the Battle of Khandaq, Hazrat Safiyyah was with the Prophet ﷺ.

It is narrated from Hazrat Khalid bin Sihan (may Allah be pleased with him) that four or five women participated with Hazrat Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) in Tustar, among whom was Umm Mujza’ah bint Thawr (may Allah be pleased with her) as well.

It is narrated from Hazrat Muasirah bint Zaid (may Allah be pleased with her) that Hazrat Abu Nazrah participated in jihad towards Khorasan along with his wife Zainab.

Hazrat Umm Waraqah bint Nawfal (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that when the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was about to set out for the Battle of Badr, I submitted, "O Messenger of Allah! Grant me permission to accompany you in jihad. I will tend to your wounded and care for the sick, perhaps Allah will grant me the death of a martyr." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me, "Stay in your house, surely Allah the Exalted has granted you the reward of martyrdom." She says that after this, I became known as "the martyr" (Shaheedah).

Hazrat Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) disliked that women should go towards the frontiers and similar places.
