Returning Home at Night from a Journey
Hadith 35895
٣٥٨٩٥ - حدثنا وكيع قال: ثنا سفيان عن محارب بن دثار عن جابر قال: نهى رسول اللَّه ﷺ أن يطرق الرجل أهله (ليلًا) (١) يتخونهم أو يطلب عثراتهم (٢).
It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade a person from returning home at night after a journey, lest he betray them or seek out their faults and mistakes.
Hadith 35896
٣٥٨٩٦ - حدثنا يزيد بن هارون عن همام بن يحيى عن إسحاق (بن) (١) عبد اللَّه ابن أبي طلحة عن أنس أن رسول اللَّه ﷺ كان لا يطرق أهله ليلًا، وكان يأتيهم غدوة أو عشية (٢).
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would not return to his family at night when coming back from a journey; he (peace be upon him) would arrive either in the morning or in the evening.
Hadith 35897
٣٥٨٩٧ - حدثنا غندر عن شعبة عن الأسود بن قيس أنه سمع (نبيحًا) (١) العنزي عن جابر بن عبد اللَّه قال: قال رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "إذا دخلتم ليلًا فلا يمات أحد أهله طروقًا"، قال جابر: فواللَّه لقد طرقنا (هن) (٢) بعد (٣).
It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When any of you returns from a journey, he should not come to his family at night. Hazrat Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) says: By Allah, we used to come to them after the night had passed.
Hadith 35898
٣٥٨٩٨ - حدثنا معاوية بن هشام قال: ثنا سفيان عن حميد الأعرج عن محمد ابن إبراهيم التيمي عن أبي سلمة عن عبد اللَّه بن رواحة قال: كنت في غزاة، فاستأذنت فتعجلت فانتهيت إلى الباب، فإذا المصباح يتأجج، وإذا أنا بشيء أبيض (نائم) (١)، فاخترطت سيفي ثم حركتها، فقالت: إليك إليك فلانة، كانت عندي ⦗٥٢٣⦘ مشطتني، فأتيت النبي ﷺ فأخبرته فنهى أن يطرق الرجل أهله ليلًا (٢).
Hazrat Abdullah bin Rawaha (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I participated in a battle. I sought permission to return and hurried back, and upon reaching the door of my house, I saw that a lamp was lit inside and I saw a white thing lying down. I drew my sword, then moved it, and my wife said: "Go away, go away, so-and-so is with me and is combing my hair." Hazrat Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that I presented myself before the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him of this incident. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade that a man should return home at night from a journey.
Hadith 35899
٣٥٨٩٩ - حدثنا ابن نمير قال: ثنا عبيد اللَّه بن عمر عن نافع عن ابن عمر قال: أقبل عمر بن الخطاب من غزوة سَرْغ حتى إذا بلغ الجُرْف قال: أيها الناس لا تطرقوا النساء ولا (تغيروهن) (١)، ثم بعث راكبا إلى المدينة بأن الناس داخلون بالغداة (٢).
It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was returning from the expedition of Sargh. When he reached the place of Juruf, he announced: O people! Do not enter upon them at night and in their unawareness. Then he sent a rider towards Madinah to inform that people will enter in the morning.
Hadith 35900
٣٥٩٠٠ - حدثنا عبد الرحيم بن سليمان عن عاصم الأحول عن عامر قال: قال: جابر بن عبد اللَّه قال رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "إذا طالت غيبة أحدكم عن أهله فلا يطرقن أهله ليلًا" (١).
It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When any one of you has been away from his family for a long time due to travel, he should not return to his family at night.
