Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Ata (may Allah have mercy on him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade traveling alone.

Hazrat Ata (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) forbade two men from traveling together.

Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) disliked a single person or two people traveling. However, when there are three or more, then it is permitted.

It is narrated from Hazrat Mujahid (may Allah have mercy on him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked, "How is it for a person to travel alone?" He replied, "He is a devil," meaning he is sinful. It was asked, "What if there are two?" He replied, "They are sinful." It was asked, "What if there are three?" He replied, "They are the best companions."

Hazrat Mujahid (may Allah have mercy on him) says that a person who travels alone on horseback is a devil, and two riders are two devils, and three are the best companions.

Hazrat Ikrimah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade traveling alone in deserted places.

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If people knew how much harm there is in traveling alone, then no rider would ever travel alone at night.

Hazrat Ata (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade a person from traveling alone and from spending the night alone at home.

Hazrat Abu Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with him) says that do not spend the night alone, surely Satan is more desirous of what you have.
