Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Ibrahim al-Taymi (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from his father that he says: I saw Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) in Mada'in tying between two marks, in a single shirt.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There is no competition except in wearing shoes (footwear), walking barefoot, or in sword and archery.

It is narrated in a similar manner from Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him).

Hazrat Mujahid (may Allah have mercy on him) says that I saw Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) tying a shirt between two targets and saying, "I am in exchange for this, I am in exchange for this." If it hits the target, then he would hang the bow on his shoulder and pass through the market.

Hazrat Ibn Aun (may Allah have mercy on him) says that I asked Muhammad about competing in sword fighting and sharp shooting. He did not consider there to be any harm in it.

Hazrat Nafi bin Umar (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that I asked Hazrat Amr bin Dinar (may Allah have mercy on him) about the prize for a competition. He replied, "There is no harm; you may eat yourself and feed me as well."

It is narrated from Hazrat Mujahid (may Allah have mercy on him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Angels do not attend any of your games except horse riding, sword fighting, and archery.
