Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that there was a man whose name was Karkarah. He passed away, so the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "He is of the people of Hell." People went to look at his belongings and they found a cloak which he had taken dishonestly.

It is narrated from Hazrat Zaid bin Khalid Al-Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man from among the Muslims passed away in Khaybar. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was informed of his death, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Offer the funeral prayer of your companion yourselves." Upon hearing this statement of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), the color of the people's faces changed. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw the faces of the people, he said: "He committed treachery in the way of Allah." When we searched his belongings, we found a pearl among the pearls of the Jews, the value of which was two dirhams.

It is narrated from the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) in the same manner.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that it was said to the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that such-and-such your servant has been martyred. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Never! I saw a sheet on him which he had taken as a betrayal.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood to deliver a sermon to us, and he mentioned betrayal and, while describing the gravity of this sin, said: O people! Let none of you come to me on the Day of Resurrection with a camel on his neck, and that camel is making noise, and he says, "O Messenger of Allah! Help me!" Then I will say to him, "I have no authority over anything concerning you; I had conveyed the message to you." And let none of you come to me on the Day of Resurrection with a cow on his neck, and it has the sound of a cow, and he says, "O Messenger of Allah! Help me!" I will say, "I have no authority over anything concerning you; I had conveyed the message to you." And let none of you come to me on the Day of Resurrection with the burden of betrayal of a horse on his neck, and its sound, and he says to me, "O Messenger of Allah! Help me!" I will say, "I have no authority over anything concerning you; I had conveyed my message to you." And let none of you come to me on the Day of Resurrection with the burden of betrayal of gold or silver on his neck, and he says, "O Messenger of Allah! Help me!" I will say, "I have no authority over anything concerning you; I had conveyed the message to you." And let none of you come to me on the Day of Resurrection with the burden of betrayal of a human being on his neck, and it has its sound, and he says to me, "O Messenger of Allah! Help me!" I will say, "I have no authority over anything concerning you; I had conveyed my message to you."

It is narrated from Hazrat Buraidah (may Allah be pleased with him) that whenever the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) appointed someone as the commander of a detachment or an army, he would instruct him: Do not commit treachery.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Humaid Al-Sa'idi (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) appointed Ibn Al-Lutbiyyah as a governor and said to him: "By the One in Whose hand is my soul, none of you will wrongfully take anything except that he will bring it on the Day of Resurrection, carrying it on his neck. I surely know the person who will appear before Allah carrying a camel on his neck, and it will be making its sound, or carrying a cow and it will be making its sound, or carrying a goat and it will be making its sound." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his blessed hands towards the guests, and he raised his hands so high that I began to see the whiteness of his armpits. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah! Have I conveyed (the message)?" Hazrat Abu Humaid says: "My eyes saw this scene and my ears heard this message."

It is narrated in the same manner from Hazrat Abu Humaid Al-Sa'idi (may Allah be pleased with him).

It is narrated from Hazrat Adi bin Umairah al-Kindi (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O people! Whoever among you is appointed as a ruler or official over any matter on our behalf, and then he conceals from us even a needle or anything greater than that, it is a betrayal, and he will bring it with him on the Day of Resurrection. A black Ansari man stood up—as if I am seeing him now—and said, O Messenger of Allah! Please take back the office you have given me. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, For what reason? He replied, I have heard from you what you have just said, and that is why. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I still say that whoever among you is appointed over any matter should bring whatever little or much he has to us; he should take what is given to him and refrain from what is withheld from him.

It is narrated from Hazrat Adi bin Umairah Al-Kindi (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: This is betrayal and deception; on the Day of Resurrection, he will be brought with it.

Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) said regarding the noble Qur'an verse { وَمَا آتَاکُمُ الرَّسُولُ فَخُذُوہُ ، وَمَا نَہَاکُمْ عَنْہُ فَانْتَہُوا } that they were granted spoils and were forbidden from treachery.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that Hazrat Rifa’ah presented a slave to the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). That slave accompanied them in the Battle of Khaybar. He joined the battle between Asr and Maghrib, and was struck by an arrow, the shooter of which was unknown, but he was martyred. We said, “Glad tidings of Paradise for you!” The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “By Him in Whose hand is my soul, the cloak he took from the spoils of the Muslims, which he had stolen, is burning him in the Fire.” An Ansari man stood up and said, “O Messenger of Allah! I found two straps that day.” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “The like of them will be cut for you from the Fire of Hell.”
