Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Muslimah, may Allah have mercy on him, that a man granted protection (asylum) to some people, and he was with Hazrat Amr bin Aas, Hazrat Khalid bin Waleed, and Hazrat Abu Ubaidah bin Al-Jarrah, may Allah be pleased with them. Hazrat Amr and Hazrat Khalid bin Waleed, may Allah be pleased with them, said: We will not grant protection to those whom he grants protection. Hazrat Abu Ubaidah bin Jarrah, may Allah be pleased with him, said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: Whoever among the Muslims grants protection to someone, protection will be granted to him.

Hazrat Abu Ubaidah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: Whoever among the Muslims grants protection to someone, he will be granted protection.

It is also narrated in a similar manner from Hazrat Abu Umamah.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Murrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) conquered Makkah: Hazrat Umm Hani (may Allah be pleased with her) says that two relatives of my husband fled and came to me, so I gave them protection. My brother, Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), came to me and said: I will surely kill them. Hazrat Umm Hani (may Allah be pleased with her) says that I locked both of them in a room and went to the service of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). When he saw me, he said: Welcome, Umm Hani (may Allah be pleased with her)! Have you come in peace? I said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Two persons from my husband's family fled and came to me, so I gave them protection. My brother, Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), came to me and intended to kill them. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No (they will not be killed). Whoever you have given protection to, we have also given protection to, and whoever you have granted safety to, we have also granted safety to.

It is narrated in a similar manner from Hazrat Umm Hani (may Allah be pleased with her), with the addition at the end that then I went to Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and forbade him from killing them.

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that if a woman grants protection to any people, they will be granted protection.

It is narrated in a similar manner from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her).

Hazrat Fudail bin Zaid al-Raqashi (may Allah be pleased with him), who participated in seven battles during the caliphate of Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), narrates that Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) sent an army, and I was also part of that army. We besieged the people of Sahar Yaj. When we saw that today we would conquer them, we said: Let us return, rest for a while, and then come back refreshed to conquer them. When we returned from there, a slave among the Muslims followed them and spoke to them in Persian, and wrote them a guarantee of safety (protection) on a scroll, tied it to an arrow, and threw it towards them. When we returned, we saw that those people had come out of the fortress. We asked them: What has happened to you? They said: You have granted us safety. We said: We have certainly not done so; indeed, a slave has granted you safety who himself has no authority over anything. You should go back until we write to Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) and seek his opinion. They said: We do not distinguish between your free men and your slaves; we are not going back. Now, if you wish, kill us, or if you wish, forgive us. He narrates that we wrote the situation to Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) wrote: The slave of the Muslims is also from among the Muslims; his guarantee is their guarantee. He narrates that Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) enforced the protection granted by the slave.

Hazrat Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the granting of protection by a woman and a slave is correct and permissible.

Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: If any woman among the Muslims grants protection, her granting of protection is valid.

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The protection granted by Muslims is one and the same; even the lowest among them can grant protection.

It is narrated from Hazrat Amr bin Aas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Whoever is granted protection by a Muslim, he will be granted protection.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The protection granted by Muslims is one; even the lowest among them can grant protection.

It is narrated from Hazrat Amr bin Shu'aib (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: If even the lowest among the Muslims grants protection, then that protection will be granted to him.
