Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Hakam (may Allah have mercy on him) and Hazrat Mujahid (may Allah have mercy on him) that Hazrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: If you take ransom from any of the polytheists, and you are given two mud of dinar, do not accept the ransom.

It is narrated from Hazrat Khalid bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him), whose eye was martyred in jihad in the region of Sus, that he said: We laid siege to the land of the disbelievers and faced great hardship. At that time, our leader was Hazrat Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him). A dehqaan (landowner) sought protection for himself and his companions and wanted to escape. Hazrat Abu Musa said, "Separate them." The dehqaan began to separate them. Hazrat Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) said to his companions: "I think he will deceive." Then, when the dehqaan had taken out his family members, he again prepared for battle. Then, when he was captured and brought, he offered a great ransom. But Hazrat Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) ordered his execution.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that: On the day of the Trench, some disbelievers were killed, and the Muslims gained dominance over the bodies of the disbelievers. The polytheists said to the Muslims, "Hand over our corpses to us, and in return we will give you ten thousand dirhams." This was mentioned to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "We have no need of your corpses (dead bodies) nor of the blood money. This is filthy blood money and filthy corpses."

It is narrated from Hazrat Hakam (may Allah have mercy on him) that some polytheists were killed in the Battle of the Trench. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was offered wealth in exchange for those dead bodies, to the extent that the amount reached the value of blood money, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) refused to accept it.

The same narration is also reported from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them).

It is narrated from Hazrat Mujahid (may Allah have mercy on him) that { وَاقْتُلُوہُمْ حَیْثُ وَجَدْتُمُوہُمْ } was abrogated, which previously contained the command to release (prisoners) by ransom or by showing kindness.

Hazrat Mujahid says regarding the verse of the Qur'an { فَإِمَّا مَنًّا بَعْدُ وَإِمَّا فِدَائً } that now there is neither any favor nor ransom.

It is narrated from Hazrat Mujahid (may Allah have mercy on him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sought consultation regarding the prisoners of the Battle of Badr. Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), these are your people and your relatives, so take ransom from them and set them free. Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Kill them all. Then regarding this, the verse of the Holy Qur'an { مَا کَانَ لِنَبِیٍّ أَنْ یَکُونَ لَہُ أَسْرَی حَتَّی یُثْخِنَ فِی الأَرْضِ } was revealed. Hazrat Mujahid says that by "illa ithkhan" is meant killing.
