Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

A man from the tribe of Muzaynah narrates from his father that when the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would send any army, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would say to them: When you see a mosque or hear the voice of a muezzin, then do not kill anyone.

Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that when the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would come to a people at night, and if he (peace be upon him) heard the call to prayer (adhan), he (peace be upon him) would refrain from fighting.

Hazrat Abu Alia (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that whenever Hazrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) sent an army towards the apostates, he would say: Sit down near the settlement; if you hear the sound of the call to prayer (adhan) by sunrise, then it is fine, otherwise attack them.
