Hadith 35227
Hazrat Aslam (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Gather the people for this wealth of fai’ so that I may reflect upon it. Indeed, I have recited some verses from the Book of Allah which have made me self-sufficient regarding this matter. Allah, the Lord of Honor, has said: Translation: Whatever Allah has returned to His Messenger from the people of the towns, it is for Allah and for the Messenger ﷺ and for the Messenger’s ﷺ relatives and the orphans and the needy and the travelers. Until he (may Allah be pleased with him) recited to the end of the verse. Indeed, Allah is severe in punishment. He (may Allah be pleased with him) said: By Allah! This wealth is not only for those few people. Then he (may Allah be pleased with him) recited this verse: Translation: (And that wealth is) for the poor emigrants who were expelled from their homes and their properties, seeking the bounty of Allah and His pleasure... and they help Allah and His Messenger ﷺ. They are the truthful. Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: By Allah! This wealth is not only for those people either. Then he (may Allah be pleased with him) also recited this verse: Translation: And it is (also) for those who come after them. He (may Allah be pleased with him) recited to the end of the verse.
